Anybody interested? I like collecting other knapper's points. I have points that some of you have made, would like to have more. :) We could do it like the knife swap or Christmas trade, see who's interested, then draw names to see who gets who.
-
throw my name in. i can make a squirrel blunt so long as eddie doesn't hate on it.
-
What kind of time line ya thinking Steve? I'm done with my KITH knives, haven't started on my Christmas Trade yet and its
hunting season, not to mention I'm not real fast at the knapping or very good either.
-
I'm with Dana on this one, sounds like fun, but i'm not that good yet either, but i would try.
-
Hmmm....I actually gave up knapping....at least a dozen times. I won't touch a piece of rock now unless it's sandstone (I've made a few shaping tools, for wood, from coarse sandstone).
I've switched to bone. I can make replica Cahokia and Sioux bone points. Does that count?
-
Practice makes perfect. Since I've given every point away I've made so far, why not practice some more and give it away too. I'm in.
Mike
-
I would say a pretty generous timeline, kinda like the knife swap-maybe the end of Nov or so (or whenever everbody thinks), send points whenever you get 'em done? Phillip, bone points would be fine with me. Also, I'd say enter multiple times if you want to.
-
I'm in. ;D
-
I'm in for 1 :)
-
What the heck put me in twice Steve, I may have to make em out of glass so I hope thats ok.
-
Put me in.Sounds Fun. Frank
-
Put me in 3 times. I'll do a 3 for 1 (on each swap): three bone arrowheads for each stone point. ;D
-
Put me in for 1. This will be a little insentive to get my knapping tools back togeather. I sure do like looking at others points a styles of knapping. Later Bob
-
Well hell put me in, i get on a plane to Afganistan in a week, but i'll knock something out this weekend and give it to one of the guys down at the bow club to mail it out for me.
-
I love these kind of trades.
You can put my name in the hat twice. Thanks for the opportunity.
Jeremy
-
Oh what the heck, I am in.... ;D
-
Put me in for three,,, as long as we are not on the same time schedule as the Friendship Bow.
-
Put me in for three. I may even manage to make some regular size points.
-
If glass is OK with everyone, I'm good for at least 3. ;D
-
Ok, how about let's give everybody until about maybe Wednesday night to sign on, and then we'll draw names, have your points out by the end of November-sound ok?
So far we have:

I'm in. Are we talking hunting points? I need to know what size to make. (not like I can turn out huge points anyway)
Jim
-
Wish I could but I just cant! No time! Just got huge order for products from Whole Foods. Me Busy! Me brain hurt!!! :o
-
Jim, whatever kind of point you want to make, from a 1/2" Woodland triangle to a 12" Wenatchie Clovis. :)
-
Looks good so far. I am sure that there are more out there thinking about joing in. Go for it. It would be a really good time to start a collection or add to the one you already have.
-
Sounds good to me. Neat idea Steve.
Mike
-
add me in hillbilly, that is if you guys aint afraid of rhyolite,i will put in a finished point and a late stage biface..........james
-
Well Chris ,you don't have to worry about squirrel thumpers now, between you and James , I need some of those green concrete points. ;D ;)
-
Me too! But no time to make. Me busy! Brain hurt!!! :o
-
im in
-
Wow, where'd this come from - feel like a Johney come lately ;D. Throw my name in there too, like I need more stuff to do ::) :).
-
Count me in for one.
-
Put me in if theres room, so i will have something to remember my first post on PA. you can put me in twice if theres an odd number.

DD

This is shaping up to be a lot of fun. I'll give it until Wednesday afternoon, then put all the names in a hat and draw. What I'll probably do is add all the names, pull them out, and list them in order they're drawn, then everybody sends a point to the person below them on the list. How's that sound? Oh, and Tiller, you've got over a month to make a point-go for it.
-
i think ya got everybody but me ;)
-
Oops! Now you're in there. Getting old and senile sucks.... :)
-
nah, old means respected, but senile sucks.
-
steve. I'm in and interested.
only stipulation I would suggest is that points have to be signed. dont know if that was mentioned earlier in thread didnt have time to read it all.
later
wade
-
How do you sign obsidian ???
-
those silver sharpies would work on obsid. or a paint pen?
hell I dont know just thought it would be cool to start a collection....
N2
-
I'll throw one in,I'm new to this site so I'll have to spend alittle time on how to post photos, pms etc.
Bone pile
-
those silver sharpies would work on obsid. or a paint pen?
hell I dont know just thought it would be cool to start a collection....
N2
never thought of that ::)
-
Paint pen works good. Yep, sign 'em. I usually sign mine on the side with all the steps and hinges that you can't see when it's in the case. ;D
-
Brain hurt! >:(
-
Come on David, quit type'n and start knapp'n. ;D
Mike
-
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I usually sign obsidian and glass pieces with a diamond or carbide scribe tool (kinda like you score glass with before cutting) works well for me
-
Yep, black fine point sharpie on the ugly side - works great :).
-
Hey Im in too, i can never make it to the computer anymore, its hunting season... but yeah i'll throw one in. when its time for addresses or time to ship dont be afraid to send me a PM, i dont wanna miss out. - Ryan
-
Can the signing be optional, personally I don't liked signed points, and I don't sign mine. I believe that your signature is in the point not on it.... ;D
-
All right, everybody who hasn't signed up yet, get with it. I'll do the drawing tonight around 8:00 or so.
-
Alright Hillbilly Just quit kicking me ;D Been hisitant because I sometimes over commit and trying to learn not to. But just got some good flakes knocked out and have actually got alot faster and better at the points this year so count me for 3.
-
Been hisitant because I sometimes over commit and trying to learn not to
Keenan, I've been known to suffer from the same affliction. :)
-
Steve I need to bow out of the trade, I just recieved some sad news and won't have the time to chip some points.
-
OK, drum roll please.......I just put all the names in a hat (olive felt fedora, size 7 1/4) :) and got my son Cody to draw them out and call out the names.
How this works: You send a point to the person below you on the list, you get a point from the person above you. Last person on the list sends a point to the first person on the list. PM your point recipient for their address. Try to have them in the mail by the last of November. And oh yeah, post a pic of the point you got so we can all drool over them. This should be a lot of fun. If I missed anybody or screwed anything up, let me know.

-
way cool,,,,,,, ;D ;D ;D One from three different people, and three different victims >:D,,,I mean recipients ;D ;D I like it
-
David, catch the next one- don't hold out, it's not about how good you can knap or making a masterpiece-just having some fun and swapping stuff around so we can enjoy having things handmade by friends.
-
Keenan, it worked out well in the luck of the draw. With a few people in multiple times, I was afraid I would end up with the same person at the start and end of the list. :)
-
David, you should have jumped in. All three of my draws have me sending points to the PRO'S. The good thing, is I have their address ;D
-
Well I want to go ahead and apoligize to the three unlucky fellas below me. Forgive me, for I am a beginner :-[
-
Hey John (aka FB) I'll get some flies in the package with your point. I think I should still have your address off the feather envelope.
Mike
-
Shannon, I've seen your work and you did great even on your first points. And your last ones looked about as professional as it gets. I'd be honored to have one of your points in my arsenal ;)
-
Just thought I would say thanks to those of you that PMed me about my dropping out. A friend I grew up
with passed away yesterday at 48 years old leaving his wife and kids behind :'( There is a benefit dinner/ auction planned
so I will be concentrating on getting some stuff together to help as I am able. Thanks again guys.
-
Sounds good Mike, let me know if you need my address agian.
Dana sorry to hear about you'r friend ! Let me know if there is anything i can do.....Madcrow i need you'r address.

Condolences DanaM
Man,I drew Keenan, that means I'm gonna have to draw deep and turn out better than my usual practical arrowheads,(I do love a challenge) We shall see what happens. ( I know I'm gonna break some thin ones this time around) Good luck to all ! Frank
-
Sorry to hear that, Dana.
-
Yep, sorry to hear about that Dana - that's way too young to go! Allright Frank, lets see hmm - could you use maybe a harpoon head or maybe a knife? This aught to be fun ;D. Hey Eddie, man I sure do admire that most recent knife you posted ::) ;D.
-
Can I still get in on this? Put me down for a couple if you can!
-
Frank you must be confusing me with someone who knows what there doing ::) I just an old hillbilly ;D Could't resist
-
Yeah right Keenan! And I'm Santa Claus!!! :o
-
hell yea hillbilly i'm just ganna pull a pointie flack outa the pile, notch it and call it a point, hope you like it ;D
-
Oh, I'll like it, Jesse. :) Don't have one of yours yet, looking forward to seeing it.
-
Will someone trade with me? Please? Prety PLEASSSSSEEEEE????
-
Tiller, we tried every way in the world to talk you into signing up, but you wouldn't have none of it. ;D Actually, I'll be happy to swap a point with you if you want to.
-
You're on! Point for point! ;D
-
hey mullet pleases dont send me one of those dot to dot points of yours..........ha ha aha ..............robustus
-
Dot to dot?
-
Okay James, I could pour and grind one out of Bondo. :D And sign it with a copper pen.
-
Hey Keenan You have been knapping the best material in the world for how long ? (I was'nt born just lately) Frank
-
Tiller, sounds good.
hey mullet pleases dont send me one of those dot to dot points of yours..........ha ha aha
James, as long as he don't leave the numbers on it........;D
-
I'm going to work on making Ishi points. Never done it but there is always a first time. Seems like there is a big difference in how obsidian points and flint points are made. Materials seem to dictate how they come out.
-
Ishi points are simple really D. Just make your elongated triangle, move up about a quater inch from the base and notch em - voila, huntin point :).
-
but with expanded notches?
-
I usually end up with extremely expanded notches when I try those.... ;D
-
i didnt enter...my chipping is o.k....but i want to see who and what they got....if i would have gotten keenan.i would have sent him a box of chips of obsidian.. ;D, ;D....like he dont have enough..later john
-
I've ended up with the extremely expanded notches several times myself ::). Don't know why Ishi liked to do em that way other than maybe his hafting material was big or it just held on better - straight notches hold plenty well enough for me :).
-
no notches work just as good :)
-
he was just showing off. ;D
-
John , From what I've just seen of your work you could hold your own with anyone. ;)
??? is everyone making hunting points or any specifics that we are to follow. Barbed, unbarbed, general size?
-
Keenan, make whatever you feel like.Except I want a 48" long midnight lace dance blade that's about 6" wide and 3/16"-1/4" thick. Nice flake pattern, too, please. ;D ;D ;D
-
Ok now that I got the coffee out of my nose.!!!!
-
Better start working on the shaft to haft it too!!!
-
A good locust fence post would work.
-
Sad news Hillbilly, I broke your 48" blade. It's in about 237 pieces but in think I can get it glued together without it showing ;D
-
;D
-
Steve i got a surprise for you. ;)
-
HOLY HILLBILLY,I know only know of one person that can pull that off...and i wish it was me that could do that for you. :-[....john
-
Jim Win of Cali?
-
Dave: Did you ever get in on this?
Mike
-
Hillbilly and I will be doing a side trade. Was a little late for the official one!
-
d.tiller...i know jim could do it very easy...i was thinking of emory.i see his 48 incher and its a mind blower...i dont know what the secret is to keeping the mega blades in one peice is...but i sure would like to know...later john
-
Protect yourself from bad vibrations!
-
When can we send our point out ? Should i wait until the end of the month ?
Thanks JohnK
-
John, send 'em out whenever you want to.
-
Sounds good !
-
hi guys, am i to late? if not i wont in as well, thanks john.
-
John, we've already drawn on this one, but we'll be happy to get you in on the next one. Welcome aboard, good to see you posting over here.
-
My point is on it's way...I hope you like it Madcrow !
-
I am sure that I will. I guess now I need to make a display case for some points.
-
I'll be putting everybodys in the mail on Fri. ;)
-

-
wheres mine old man...yeh,you know who i am talking too.LOL...john
-
I've got mine done, signed yours with a copper wire James, drew the numbers in too. Just have to get time to mail them. I'm chasing orange marinated hogs this weekend.
-
I get to post the first pic :P. This is the point that I received from JohnK. Maybe he will chime in with the type of rock, because I still can't tell the difference in most of them. It is a nice point and will look good in my display case, after I make one. I weighed it just for giggles. 291.4 grains. What a slammer.

Glad you like it Madcrow ;D
-

Jesse may be a bit late getting back to ya. I think he is flying from Kurdistan to Afghanistan today.
-
Yeeha!! ;D ;D Got a little box in the mail today :o Return address,,,,,,Florida, :o,,,,,Bonepile is in Florida :o :o :o,,,,,,, oh what could it be I wonder.
Wow,,, What a beauty,,, I think I'd be able to bring down T Rex with this one. Very nice Roger. The flaking is excellent and love the color. We definitely don't have anything around here like that. Thank you.
Hillbilly, I've got your mammoth blade roughed out. It's not quite 48" but will probably work for hunting Bigfoot. ;D Anyone ever try napping slate ;D Just kidding of-coarse Keenan

-
What a beautiful point!
-
so,what is that big chuck rock keenan...i got my 2 inch bopper out and ready to go. ;D later john
-
Roger, Nice looking Coral, Newnan Point. Where are you at down here? I have some of that same colored, heat treated, Coral I got from Claude Van Order.
-
Thanks for the kind words keenan, glad you enjoy it.I'm sure you have some great rock out there, might have to talk trade.Mullet I live close to Lemon Bay south of Venice.I got that coral off of JC,there's nothin' down here but sand and shell.I love watching Claude work ,makes it look easy,a true craftsman.I'm working on a knife now out of some white coral I got off Jeff. Were are you located?
Bone pile
-
I live in Lakeland about 3 miles from Claude. I've heard Claude talk about somebody from that area that has come up here before. Must have been you. Hope we can get together one day.
-
That is a fine looking point Bone pile and out of that tough to knap coral. I'm going to attack that big one you sent me Eddie as soon as I feel up to the task ;D.
-
Got a point mailed off today. Fishoonah, hope your still in WA. You'll have a little work to do when you get it - you'll see what I mean ::).
-
Paul you can tell by the color, that coral is heat treated. then it's almost as easy as heat treated Novaculite.
-
Eddie: I'm going to spall around on that peice and see what I get out of it. If It's not satisfactory I'll cook it - hopefully some deer and hawgs will come of it :).
-
Keenan, ;D We would call that prime knapping rock here in NC. :) Nice point, Bonepile-I like those Hillsboroughs. I've got a box of Jeff's cooked coral on the way, looking forward to whacking it.
-
That stuff, Paul is top of the line Coral. It's a frustrating bear to work raw, sometimes. If you do cook it try around 450 to 500 dgs. overnite.
-
Cant figure it out! I was pressure flaking this evening and was having trouble getting the flakes to run long. The other day I had no trouble at all. Maybe I was not shearing enough? Seems like they were all terminating short for some reason. I was working from flakes and there always seemed to be short terminations where the down turn in the middle of the flake was and I could not seem to run long flakes into it. I was setting up the bulb of percusion as the tip. Hmmm! Maybe that was my problem? maybe I should have just gotten rid of that part and used the flatter sections? Any ideas? ???
-
Tiller from what you have said i think your problem is not with your presher flacking but with you percussion.
i think it has to do with your cross section, was the point you were working on thinner then the rest? if a point is too thin and dose not have a convex cross section then the flacks will terminate short.
-
Yeah it was kinda flat. ???
-
Hey Cowboy I will be at my friends house in Washington this coming sat. Can't wait to see.
I will be in Puyallup,Wa. tomorrow Hanging with some flint knappers at a rock show there. I have started a point for Keenan, but have'nt gotten too far yet. There ain't a good spot on this ferry to sit and make sharp flakes.Gotta' wait until I am ashore. If I can get down to Bend in the next month,I may hold off mailing a point, and just hand it to him. ::) Today we are motoring past the Queen Charlotte Islands(British Columbia) Frank
-
Frank, you going to be at the Puyallop rock show on Saturday? I will be there for that day.
-
I hope it's there by then Frank, that's where I sent it two days ago. Oh well, if your not there just have them forward it to you :).
-

Nice'un, Wade. That's some of that Buffalo River chert from TN.
-
Got home from hunting deer with dogs yesterday and found these waiting on me from Woodbow. Thanks, Jeremy. Those are some great looking points. You have been selling yourself too short on your knapping skills. Thanks for the fibre optic blank and the Cholla cactus, too.
-
Eddie, glad to see that it got there safe and sound. And glad you like them. Just in case you are wondering about the materials going left to right in your picture, high grade kay county, edwards, carrerra glass, and the one on the foreshaft is unknown to me. That fiber optics is some sweet stuff to knap if you have never tried it. Post a pic when you get a point out of it.
Talk to you later
Jeremy

Here ya go, Jeremy. ;D

Some really nice points being swapped guys :) Wish I hadn't had to drop out :(
Knapping season is about over here as winter has set in and don't like to knap in da house :(
-
Just starting here, getting cool, and the mosquito's have slowed down. Only got bit twice today ;D Unfortunately it's hunting season.
-
Thems lookin good Jeremy and Eddie! Knapping time is always on around here - unfortunantly one has to work sometimes ::).
-
Some really nice points being swapped guys :) Wish I hadn't had to drop out :(
Knapping season is about over here as winter has set in and don't like to knap in da house :(
knapp in the shower the water will keep the dust down.... ;D
-
House knapping is done in the garage Dana! Heres how. Get and old shop vacuum and put it outside the garage. Punch an hole in the wall for the hose. (May want to build a little shed to keep the snow off the vacuum outdoors. Also, build a little box with three sides and a Plexiglas lid. Attache the hose to the back of the box. Turn on vacuum and let is suck the bad dust outdoors. No silicosis this way! Where there is a will there is a crazy flintknapper to get it done! ;D
-
its (get er done) tiller.
-
Ya sure ya betcha!!! ;)
-
Tiller first i need a garage, guess I could build one from ice blocks :o
-
Thanks N2! Looks great!
(Now every time I hunt while drinkin' Heineken I'll make sure to use the arrow with that arrowhead.... ;D ;))
-
:o :o :o ;D ;D ;D Wow Checking the mail has never been so good! Got this beauty from Sawfiler,, He said that He made this from an old bleach jug. Never been so attached to a beach jug before ,, thanks Shannon.
-
I love the color of old Clorox bottles. They are getting hard to find.
-
Shannon i am amazed how good you have got since the classic!
-
I quit telling him that, it looks like a Gimme, now. ;)
-
Man, he gets any better he may be giving James (Robustus) a run for the money!
-
Nice points ! I'll have to start saving those old bleach bottles i find in the dumps......
-
Saw Filer. keep a eye out for the mail..
-
Looking good Shannon! Yer workin em like a pro :). Beautiful point!
-
got to the mail box the other day and received a neat little package from Shannon - Saw filer, so i opened it up and he had send me 2 very beautiful points, one from a spall of Justin Snyders obsidian and another from a amber colored serving dish. both have excellent flake scars and both very nice. thank you much Shannon--- Ryan
[attachment deleted by admin]
-
Very Nice Shannon. You are kicking out some nice points. ;) I've got several ready to go out and everytime I see another point that someone els did I get to thinking that mine aren't good enough, so been doing allot of napping this last week ;) One thing about this little exchange is that it sure has encouraged and pushed me to try harder and also to spend more time a therock pile. ;D
I thought I was going to be sending mine out last week but decided to make some more so should be hitting the mail soon. ;)
-
Thanks Keenan, I guess the reason I got those out so quick is because I already had them made.
When I started trying to learn how to knapp, I went at it like fighting fire for a few weeks, then I just quit. I made about 20 points and haven't touched a pressure flaker since. ???
I think you got the nicest one, that's why I sent the other guys two each.
I'm ready for another point swap, I think I still have 3 or 4 pretty good ones left. I don't want them, and would much rather have one somebody else made.
-
Here's the point I got from N2Everything. Nice, solid, sharp-edge point. Will make a great neck knife...or similar. Thanks N2!

Some great looking points guys. I'd be proud to have any of them in a collection. ;)
-
Good looking points there fellas - keep em coming :).
-
I've got all mine done, just have to get them in the mail. Helped Mechlesher out Friday night while we were sitting under the tarp in the rain. We were waiting for the N.C. Boz's, but guess they were afraid of the rain. Anyway Chris made a nice little point. It is a big step above his squirrel points. It was real nice. Oh, Wade, found a nice little, broken, Paleo point and some inscribed pottery down at the village site Saturday after the rain.

Have made several points and broken several others, really enjoying the production, just getting my hand back and ready to start on some nice material I have been saving.I've a couple of candidate's for the point I am sending to Keenan, but am holding out to see what comes of the next few efforts.Got some really nice chert that ought to make beautiful points. Frank
-
Anticipation is awesome. ;D ;D
-
hey keenan, who did you send a point to..i want to see some of your chipping..please....i want to see if your chipping is as GOOD as your bow making ;D...later john
-
Thanks John, throw me right in front of the bus and spotlight. Thank you for the compliment to the bows that I've made. Still feel like a rookie in many ways. Humbly my flint napping skills are a few years behind the bow making. And regretfully it shows. I'm learning and getting better but as I look at some of what is being turned out I am very much reminded that I have much to learn. I hope and pray that the unfortunate victims (Chris Cade, Hillbilly, and Woodbow) that I am to send to are pleased with what they receive and that my efforts don't end up on the wall of shame ::)
I've made several then seeing other decided that they weren't good enough and I've since made more. Thankfully improving each time.
-
AHHHHH,sorry for putting the weight of the world on your shoulders. ;D next time i will think before i write. >:D....i will say your bow making is very very good and that the guys will be proud of your chipping.later john
-
Mechslasher, Woodbow and Hillbilly ;D Heads up yours are in the mail and on their way finally ;D ;D ;D
-
Thought i would go ahead and post the points im sending out today to "Leapingbare" since he's probably not gonna get them till the spring and the swap will be long over. so at least you can preview'em Jesse. (that is if i can figure out how to load a picture). the dalton style point is texas material edwards plateau and the huntin point is an 80 grain piece of peoria "keokuk" from NE oklahoma.
Dustin

very nice points Dustin, look real sharp ;)
-
Very nice points Dustin. Heads up to Cowboy, Jamie, and Robustus. They went in the mail today. I hope you still get mail at the address I have Jamie. When they get there check out the box I shipped them in. If you like them and I'll post a picture of it tomorrow I can get plenty if anybody wants some. I stacked all three boxes on top of each other and stood on them, they are strong.
-
Great looking points Dustin! Love that soapy/glossy look of the dalton, and nice flake scars :).
I'm gettin excited Eddie ;D. Seems like an eternity since I got a mystery package in the mail, even though Jesse's rock wasn't that long ago. Ya got my curiosity up on them boxes ::) ;D..
-
Hey ya'll! Look what I got in the mail the other day. KnightD sent me these cool bone points. I wouldn't have thought bone could be so sharp, but I believe if you slipped one of these between the ribs on a deer, it would have no problem wrecking ones lungs. Thanks Knightd, these will have a place in the case with the rest of my points. ;D
[attachment deleted by admin]
-
I'm Glad you like them !! I was surprized at how sharp they got my self..lol..
-
Those are cool Knightd. What part of bone are they?
-
Cow leg bone.. I smoked them in the grill..lol.. I tried boiling and a few other ways but if you smoke them with the fat and such still on them it seemed to make the bone less Brittle and I was able to get them much sharper than the other ways.. JMO ..
-
Those are some cool points knightd! Shannon: you'd be just the man to slip em through that rib cage ;D.
-
Sent out my points this morning. ;D
-
Looking forward to it Jackcraft.
hey guys thanks for the kind words
dustin
-
Looky here ya'll ;D. I finally got my mystery package from Florida, a couple of fine points knapped from none other than Mr. Eddie Parker :). Thanks friend! These will go fine with my growing collection of points from others on the site. I'm glad you autographed that one. Thinking back, I don't think I've signed a single point that I've sent out. Is the colorfull one coral?
-
Nice points ya got there Cowboy. Good work Eddie ;)
-
Thanks, Paul and Keenan. Glad you like them Paul. The one with color is Fancy Jasper, a real bear to knap Raw. That one has been heat treated. The other one is some of that flint Claude brought back from Denmark.
-
Artfully knapped beautiful stone. Cowboy you can send them on over to me and i promise not to get on the loose posting anymore, maybe. I like that simple triangular" Viking point".
-
Ok Hillbilly! I got your points here and will be mailing them out today. Hope you like them!
-
Got you one made too, Tiller-finally got an afternoon that wasn't frigid and snowy, got mine all finished up and ready to go out Friday when the PO opens back up.
-
Thanks xin. You live so close maybe I aught to drive up and see ya some time, maybe we could have a little knap in of our own :). You certainly don't get on the loose posting, that was all harmless fun where it ended ;).
-
Cowboy, any time you find the urge you will be welcome..
-
Whew....Just in the nick of time. While making Thanksgiving preparation for smoking our turkey (no frying for me this year, have you seen the price of peanut oil :o) I started trying to finish my point to replace the one I broke after notching and every thing. I then proceeded to ruin two more. I thought I was going to run out of rock and have to resort to Johnstone. ;D
Finally I was able to rough out two more preforms and finish one. I should have it in the mail Friday. Nothing like waiting to the last minute is there?.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Mike

Great points fellas. I sent mine on Wednesday.
-
Steve, those points get to ya yet? If so can you post a pic or two of them. Not dig. camera on my end!
-
I got a couple nice big points from Dingleberry yesterday. I think they're white quartzite, my favorite material. ;D I make marbles from that stuff and it's tough. I bet it's a bear to knap. I'll post some pics as soon as I get a chance.
Thanks Jonathan, they look good with my collection!
-
Hey Shannon,
Glad you like them. I wish I could claim them as quartzite but they are actually novaculite (a great stone for beginners like me). I think some of those "Parkers" are quite good at knappin quartz/quartzite. :)
-
Whoo HOooo.
received my points in the mail from steve today. Thanks much. you out did yourself. Very nice. and thanks... guess we are even now and I will stop bugging u. :)

Eddie, I have dental tools, I just save 'em for the sharpening part. :) How'd I do on that Bolen bevel? That's my first attempt at one of those, I tried to make it look like an old one that's been resharpened a couple times.
Roger, from what I've seen of your work, I was about intimidated sending a point to you :D That point is the first time I've worked Knife River flint-I'd like to have a truckload of that stuff....
-
all beautiful points.Boy Mullet,That jasper has the colors. Frank

Steve, I got yours here too. I will try and post some pictures this evenning. That Ryholite is one wicked looking point and the obsidian one is pretty cool too. How did you get them so sharp?!?! I was able to really slice a peice of paper with them like a razor blade. Please tell!!!!!! ;D
Steve, how would you haft that Rhyolite one to an arrow shaft?
-
Thanks Frank, Jamie got one made out of it too.
-
Well I finally made time to snap a picture of the points I recieved. The obsidian blade is from Mechslasher and the two noviculite ones are from Dingleberry. Thanks fellas :) I like them all. ;D

Bonepile
-
Them are some cool looking points Steve! I found something in a creek that resembles that. Thanks bone pile..
-
Eddie, the Bolen's for lookin' at, the Flint River is for stickin' through a critter. :) It came pretty close to jumping on one of my arrows.;D
-
All right gang, I'd like to formally apologize to John (aka Former Butcher) in that I just got back from the post office to mail his points. :-[ I know I boasted several times that "I was headed to the post office", but being on the road, them rascals are hard to find open (especially in big cities like Nashville). ::)
John: Be sure and look in the bottom of the envelope separate from the two pill bottles. There's a really "crappy" Johnstone point I threw in for good measure. I packed one point in a pill bottle and I also threw in some recent flies in the second. I hope you can use them before all your water gets hard for the winter. There'll be more headed you way.
Now, to find time for the Christmas exchange............. ???
Mike
-
Will do Mike ! But all the water is solid up here now :'( Maybe i'll try some through the ice ::)
-
Hey Mike, I got the points and flys today, They look great ! I'll get some pics up ASAP.

Nice points and the flies look real good. I used to do allot of fly teing years ago.
-
Cool points Mike! I've found points that look like those - is that black one Dacite? Them are some nice lookin flies, if I was a fish - I'd dang sure eat em ;D.
-
(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a257/hardawaypoints/Knapped%20points/ThanksJames.jpg)
I got these from robustus today.
Those Hardaway points are my favorites (can you tell?) The side notch is well made, thin, & sharp enough to hunt with.
The blade on the left also looks like Rhyolite, but it is a color I've never seen before. It could go to work skinning right now.
Real nice work. Thanks, James!
Jim
-
All those points are just beautiful. Those flies are nice too. I think the flie tiers should have a fly swap
-
Those are nice James. You do some fine work all abo.
-
Here's a couple points I got yesterday from brian melton . Thanks Brian! ;D

Tis the season. Great points by all.
-
Nice points Brian and Robustus ;)
-
hey keenan,i have been try to write you...hows the back..later john
-
I know it's not surprising, but I draw flies better than I tie them ;D.
Paul, I think that is what it is. It's some of my Father's Day rock. I had I nice one going out of Naviculite, had it thin, sharp and notched. Then I saw one more little area to clean up, and well......you probably know the rest of the story. Needless to say, I glued it back together and I'm going to use it as a light chain pull fob.
Mike
-
Has anybody heard if Robustus got my points? I heard from Jamie and he doesn't have access to the web to post pictures of the ones I sent him.
-

I am so naughty, i know i am f'd... so i done already bought Christmas for myself!
-
Sorry I was so slow about getting the points out. The deer hides started rolling in and I was trapped under them for way to long. I finally got them under control enough to get the points made and I just now got them in the mail. Enjoy.
-
madcrow, I can relate to the deer hide thing.....I decided to process my own hides this year and everything else got delayed... :-\
-
The Man who got me into primitive skills, and stuff.. i used to live with him and his wife.. and during deer session we would get shipments of hides from the local butcher shop. well sometimes we would have 80+ hides laying around waiting to get fleshed , racked and scrapped.. we Had like 30 rakes made up.. and i remember fleshing and stringing hides up from sun up to sun down.
I a really looking forward to getting back and doing some more tanning this spring down at the cabin..
-
Madcrow: I got your point in the mail over the holidays. Great job. What kind of material is it? It is super sharp. I'll get a picture up over the weekend. Thanks again.
Mike
-
All three points I sent out were glass. One clear one that was an old Log Cabin bottle, one brown one that was some sort of medicine bottle and a white one that was part of a gravy dish or something. I don't know who got what, I just wrapped them up and got them in the mail. I would post pics, but I was in such a hurry that I forgot to take any.
-
Madcrow, I got the clear one. Thank you....very nice point. ;D
-
Madcrow,
Finally got around to posting the point you sent. It's a very nice brown glass Yadkin. Thanks and Happy New Year.
