Hello Everyone,
My wife and I began a new adventure on Monday when our first kiddo was born (a little girl who got her mom's good looks). I wanted to post a pic of the cradle I built for the baby. It is made from Pacific Yew I cut a while ago that did not make the bow grade. I've built half the furniture in our house but this was the first time I've done everything from harvesting the tree to milling lumber to building and finishing. It's not my best work but Yew is beautiful no matter what. Plus, I felt pretty good about using bits and pieces of this valuable wood that would otherwise be burned for heat. Waste not, want not.
The little wood grub in the second pic is supposed to be there--that's our baby girl. ;D

congratulations from me too. it's been more than 18 years ago when my baby-girl looked like that, now she's engaged and about to leave the house. savor every minute with her, cause if you miss it, you can't bring it back.

Congratulations Josh, both for your beautiful new baby and the beautiful cradle. You do good work! ::) Pat

Looks like somebody is going to be changing diapers, not building bows. ;D
Congratulations Josh, that is definately the best work I have seen from you. And the crib is pretty nice too. You are now enjoying the true happiness of life. Justin

J.D.,You missed your calling in life. You make fine furniture and beautiful babies.
-
JD that is some outstanding work. Not only do you make great bows but you do wonderful work with furniture and children. Enjoy that baby while she is small because they sure do grow up fast. Congradulations to you and your wife.

Thanks so much everyone. I think the pics make the cradle look nicer than it is. Most of the joinery is just, well, weird. That little girl is a beauty though. It's still totally surreal at this point.

Congratulations on a beautiful baby. If that cradle isn't your best work, I can't imagine how nice that would be. You did a great job, and its something to pass on when she gets to be my daughter's age..... Chris

Congradulations on the new addition to your family........................DAD

very nice! yew is beautiful wood. looks like at least two maybe three bows in that cradle. but I am sure you will get more happiness from the cradle than the bows. that baby looks like a real sweetheart, mine is now 24, like was said previously...take every moment you can they grow up way too fast. congrats!
-
congrats JD now you have a long term project about 25 years should do it but it will be the fasts 25 years of your life and the most fun. tomm
-
Juniper,
Don't worry, no bows there. That whole tree had a health problem and was delaminating between growth rings. I had to glue some back together just to make this project work.
Everyone,
If my daughter has half the natural talent for archery that my wife does, I'm going to be subjected to a lot of embarassment in my life.

Great Josh I congratulations on your baby girl marlon ;D

Congrats to you and your wife JD. Have you planned a bow for her yet :)
Nice crib too.

She looks like a little angel in her new yew cradle! :)
-
Josh, You had better get ready for lots of embarrassment any way :o. Once she hits about 11 years old, you will become the stupidest thing out there. ???...but don't worry too much, they do grow out of it ;D. From now until she is 11 or so, life will be wonderful. I really miss having my little girl around to play with. She is now a federal attorney with DHS in Washington, DC. They do grow up FAST!!! Pat

That baby girl would have to be your best work yet. ;) good work there.

Beautifull JD, Conratulations that is a lucky child to have such a loving Dad, your care and dedication as a father is already shining through. Keenan
-
Excellent work! How hard was it tillering that cradle?... ;)
-
jd awesome work on both. take it from a guy who has 3 youngins, there is nothing like a child. as difficult as it is it only takes one hug or smile from your child to make all the crap go away
-
You the man JD,man of many talents. :)

Congrats. J.D., both are BEAUTIFUL!!!!....Brian

Thanks again guys. I do like the idea that this cradle could be kept in the family for a couple generations. It should hold up as long as it isn't used in freezing temperatures. ;)
