Thanks Leroy
October 1 finish date ?

Does it have to be a forged blade? I might not have a working gas forge by then. I can make a stock removal blade from a file.

Count me in. I'll be making a bone knife if that works. I suck at flint knapping, and wouldn't feel super confident at a steel knife just yet, but I've made a few.

Maybe you should be working with charcoal bubby. Don't sweet it if you need more time. I totally understand.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's knives

Great. I have to send a knife to a master knife maker, lol. PM me an address Kevin.

Jon
it takes way more skill to do what u guys do with stone than it does to do what I do with steel.
you know the door is always open if ya take a notion to beat some steel.
-
Yup just broke #1. Dang it was a beauty to.
Bjrogg
-
fired up the forge after dinner.
got a knife 30% forged before the neighbors came over.
headed out of town for the weekend.
this might be all I get done this week.
-
Well I'm just a stock removal guy so guess I'd better get back to the "grind"...
;)
-
Was going to be a nice one. It's hard to support these longer ones and keep the vibration from running through snapping them. Oh well. Saw them start over on forged in fire to. Clint would you rather have a steel blade? I could give it a try. I'm not scared
Bjrogg

Picture
Bjrogg
-
Bummer! That would have been sweet. Is that glass?
Tattoo Dave
-
Yes Dave. It's from a TV screen. It's knapped like Obsidian, but it's easier to find.
Bjrogg
Here's one I made for a benifit.
-
got some forge time in.
here the blade is forged and hot filed a little to refine shape.

now its off to a couple day soak in white vinegar to remove the super hard forge scale and save a ton on abrasives.
Kevin
-
Kevin do you soak all your blades?
-
thats a nice clean forging (f) what was the starting material ?
-
Kevin do you soak all your blades?
Most everything that I'm gonna do much grinding on.
Taking off the forge scale really saves on abrasives.

Bjrogg
BJ, I'm fine with whatever you make.
-
Got a few options in the works , the big'un is mine😁
-
Bubby I'd be thrilled with any of them. If your looking for a favorite I probably like the one right under your big one second best. Your big one of course would be my first pick.lol. Hope the smoke has cleared some for ya.
Hopefully get a chance to work on mine again today.
Bjrogg
-
Ohh it ain't going to be that easy BJ lol
-
That's good bubby I was kinda hoping for a surprise. I'm sure I'll be happy with anything you make. I did get a little work done on my trade knife today. Im liking how it's coming.
Bjrogg
-
bubby
those look nice.
my swap blade is ready for scales.
I got a nice piece of wood picked out .
now to process it into usable scales.

Don
-
Nice work kevin
-
I wanted to try out my homemade bevel guide, I think it worked okay
-
Bubby I like that.
-
I haven't been able to start on my knife yet. I've been working a lot of extra hours and have had some life issues to deal with. I haven't had any shop time. I'm hoping to get started on it soon.
-
I got three blades ready for HT yesterday, but one might need a little file work
-
Well this doesn't look like much but at least I got a start. I built a fire and tossed in a few files and a couple of pieces of industrial cutter blades. I let it burn while I spent 4.5 hours mowing and raking the yard. It got away from me since I haven't had time to mow it.
I'm hoping the steel will be soft and annealed by tomorrow. The fire was still going when I came inside at dark. Somewhere in that bed of coals is a handful of future knives.
-
Looks like a good start Clint. Maybe you need to add a fan to that fire pit. I know how the stuff around home can get away on ya.
Bjrogg
-
I received 2 great knives from Paul Nissen today thanks I really like them. I'll see if I can get somebody to post some pics for me.
-
Glad to hear that they got to you OK Rob. May they serve you well Amigo.
-
I got a blade hardened today.

Nice teaser picture Clint. Mine is almost ready if I don't do something extra. Been so busy it might just be it.
Bjrogg
-
I started sanding my knife today and found a small fracture in the edge. I was able to grind it out and reshape the blade.

I certainly hope there aren't anymore Clint. I'm sure Jeb is gonna want to do a strength test. Probably chop some bone or Antler.
Bjrogg
-
That's the only fracture in it BJ. I hope Jeb doesn't chop any antlers or railroad spikes with it. This knife is built for skinning Michigan whitetails, not chopping anything.

-
uh ohhhhh!!!!!
looks like a visit from the tink fairy.
can u grind past it?
-
I was able to grind past it without loosing too much of the shape. My blade is sanded and ready for scales now.
-
Getting closer to being done.

-
hey tatoo dave what do you prefer full or hidden tang?
-
Still have a lot of sanding to do but wanted to see how my homemade Micarta would look, black paper and burlap
-
Bubby, I got my eyes closed. Peek. Bet it looks fantastic though.
Bjrogg
-
that looks good, making my own micarta is something i haven't tried yet.
-
Looks awesome Bubby.
I have my scales shaped and sanded. Just needs sharpened and a sheath.
-
BJ I thought you would appreciate the burlap Micarta
-
I watch forged in fire don't play it so I will be leaving steel alone. YUP going to cut me up some deer meat with that Clint.
-
That burlap micarta turned out awesome! I’ve seen some that I really didn’t like because it looked like the fabric simply stacked up and the outer layer was very one dimensional looking.... yours has depth and looks great. Changed my mind on that concept.
-
Morgan this is my first try with both, on the burlap I cut strips but I just put them all in the resin and piled it in instead of stacking it. Thanks for the comments
-
My knife is basically done. I just need to sharpen it and make a sheath. I really want to post some pictures but I would like for it to be a surprise. Jeb, if I post pictures, don't look.
-
Post them pics Clint, Jeb won't look but we will...
Don
-
I shipped to pauln/ks yesterday.
cant wait to hear when it arrives.
ill post pics of the finished blade if paul doesnt.
-
I can't wait to see it and I'll post when it arrives.
Wish I was able to do the picture thing...
-
OK Outlaw, I won't look. My stand is done and the knife is almost done. Just need to sand and coat the handle/DEAD cactus.
-
I have had some personal issues, I just need to sharpen and make a dress for it
-
Take care of those personal issues Bubby. I'm hoping to get shipped Monday if I get a chance.
Bjrogg
-
I got mine almost ready to sharpen.
-
Mine arrived yesterday and it is a VERY cool knife and sheath. The magnet in the sheath retention "system" is very neat. :OK
I'll be wearing it at the 3 Trails shoot today to show it off.
Thanks Kevin and yes, you'll need to post the pictures for me.
-
here are the pics of Pauls knife.
leather dyed maple crotch scales.

i hope it serves paul well for many years to come.

Very nice, Kevin. If Paul doesn't like it...shame on him. ;)
-
That's a beauty Kevin.
-
Very nice K.H.

I Like it, I like it a lot... :)
-
Just about done coating the handle on Mr Halverson's knife. Not sure if I am going to mail it or deliver it.
-
Well I had to order some sheath leather as I ran out, that's all that's holding me up
-
I couldn't make it to Post Office today. It's gonna be a crazy busy week for me. I'll try to get mine sent out as soon as I can.
Bjrogg
-
Hey BJ, do you like a saddle sheath? There pretty comfy sitting
-
Buddy sounds great. I'm sure I'll love whatever you make. I'll try hard to get it bloody with some whitetail meat. Not gonna have much play time for awhile now though.
Bjrogg
-
I got my heat treat done and am working on the handle now, just need to come up with a sheath
-
JEB. DO NOT LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING PICTURES ;D
-
I finished my offering in this trade. It's a mystery steel from an industrial cutting blade. It's sanded to 3000 grit, buffed to a mirror finish, and has Bubinga scales. I hope to see some pictures of it covered in deer blood this fall.

Sweet!!
-
Very nice looking knife and sheath. :OK
-
Nice Clint. I'm sure Jon will love it.
-
very nice.
you got some time into that polish!
im sure jon will love it.
-
I promised not to look at it. What's it look like. As they say on Forged in Fire, "will it cut", lol
OK, I lied, It is a really really nice looking knife and sheath. I am speechless and that is not easy for me to do. I promise there will be blood on that knife this fall. Clint, you out did yourself.
Pearl will know what I mean when I say this, but I really needed some cheering with all that's going on. You put a smile back on my face Clint and I thank you for that.
-
I know exactly where you are coming from Jon. That little bugger has a way of putting smiles on peoples faces. He is a good nut.
-
That's a beauty, Clint.
-
Hope you don't mind Clint but 1st blood will be done by my 12 year old grand daughter who has her youth hunt next weekend. She has killed 4 bucks so for and she sits with me in my blind. She is one heck of a shot. I will post photo's of her gutting with your knife.
-
That would be great Jeb. I'll get it in the mail on Monday. It won't take too long to make the trip north to you. It's really sharp so make sure she is careful with it.
-
Will do. My son and I are real careful with the kids. We walk them thru the process under close watch. It is neat to watch her go at it tho. No fear, blood doesn't bother any of them including the 3 year old that helps throw parts away from the deer during the process.
-
There’s some great looking knives coming out! I managed to chip out a small obsidian knife. It’s a little rough but it turned out. I’ll be making a bone knife also.
Tattoo Dave
-
I am officially shipped. It should be there on Thursday Jeb.
-
Sounds good Clint. Will have to wait until Sunday to see it as my bride and I are heading to the cabin tomorrow for the weekend. Kids youth hunt starts Saturday and I have to help with the 3 hunters scoping in and qualifying to hunt. They don' shoot good and they don't hunt BUT they always qualify, even the 10 year old.
-
jeb just delivered this awesome knapped knife and stand.
u sir are a talented man.

-
That is a Beauty. :OK
-
I'm shipped.
Bjrogg
-
Wow! Very nice, knife.
-
Beautiful knives Clint and Jeb.
Enjoy that youth hunt Jeb. Pretty sure that'll put a smile on your face to.
Bjrogg
-
Well just got home from the youth with my grandkids and got to open the box mailed to me from the "outlaw" What a great knife he made me and can't wait to get some blood on it. Also got a handful of cholla for future knives. Thanks Clint for the outstanding knife.
-
Glad you like it Jeb. Good luck this season.
I received 2 knapped knives from BJ. They are very cool. I'll try to take some pictures and post on my next day off.
-
Glad you think there cool Outlaw. Had a bit of a boo boo on the first one. Thought I'd send it along with another one without a boo boo.
Bjrogg
-
Nice blade Jeb! I know Kevin is thrilled...
bj, I will be looking forward to Clint's pics...
Don
-
I've been so busy trying to get ready for opening day I haven't taken the time to do a photo shoot yet.
-
I know the feeling Clint. Except I haven't been able to find time to get ready for opening day either.
Bjrogg
Hopefully find enough time to get out to one of my spots at least.
-
I'll be shipping out on Monday Bubby. I'll try and get a pic or two up later today.
Tattoo Dave
-
I'll be waiting Dave. I've had some personal issues to deal with this month, but I just need to make the sheath and I can ship
-
Here are the knapped knives that BJ sent to me. The USPS struck again. I had to do some repair work to one of them. Thanks BJ!!! :)
-
Sorry about that Clint it really was kinda my screwup on the damaged one. I knew I should have knapped a new blade for the one. I was short on time and healing my leg. No indirect percussion for me till it gets healed up a whole lot better than it is. Hope you like em. I had a different handle on it at first but I didn't like it. I tried heating the epoxy up enough to change the handle. I thought it was going to work but the heat or cooling down damaged it and it didn't show until I had new handle on and all done. I decided to just send it and the second one. Wish I'd of left the other handle on now. They would have been matched set.
Bjrogg
-
Nice looking blades Bj...I would recognize that paint...Maybe Clint will skin a deer soon with one...That should do the job
-
Well I'm basically finished BJ I'll try and mail it this week
-
bubby
I really like that package.
Kevin
-
Thanks Kevin
-
That looks great Bubby. I really like it. Hopefully I get to take it hunting
Bjrogg
-
I'm working on the handle & then make a sheath for it.
-
Bubby I love that knife. Good work.
-
I got a bone knife and a small mahogany obsidian knife from tattoo Dave today, pretty cool. I'm on my way to football I'll post pics when I can
-
i got the last piece i need to finish my handle in the mail today, shouldn't be long now.
-
Glad they made there Bubby! Hope you like them. My knapping skills are weak at best. I keep saying I need to make more time to start Knapping more. Maybe if I ever retire. :o
Tattoo Dave
-
Mine will be going out on Wed on my way to town.
-
I shipped mine yesterday should be there tomorrow
-
I'll be watching for it bubby
Bjrogg
-
USPS says it was delivered so I'm good
-
As long as they delivered it to the right house. Experience speaking :)
-
Bubby I just got home and Susie said I got a box today. Really love the knife and sheath bubby. ThankYou so much. I'll try to get some pictures as soon as I can, but pictures really can't show how nice this knife is.
Bjrogg
-
Finally finished black beans and wheat is planted. Just sugarbeets (a grueling harvest) and corn (usually pretty simple) and tillage. Got a chance to post a couple pictures of the sweet knife that bubby sent me. I really like it bubby. It will get used. I like the profiles and edge geometry. I didn't give it strength test but I'm sure it's pretty though and sir it will cut.
Thanks bubby. I plan on skinning a few critters with it for sure.
Bjrogg
-
Very nice knife and sheath. I think they call that sheath style a saddle sheath but the maker may correct me. I have a knife with that style sheath.
-
Jeb I think your right. I know bubby asked me which style I'd prefer and I told him to just surprise me. It is very well made and so is the knife. I really like the burlap micarda scales on handle to. I think bubby said he made those to. Very well done sir.
Thanks again bubby.
Bjrogg
-
Glad you like it BJ, I did make the burlap mycarta and the black paper mycarta. Jeb it is a saddle sheath good call😉
-
That's a beauty, Bubby.
-
I do like it bubby. Kinda giving me the itch to try making one myself. I'm thinking you anealed file to work on it and then hardened in the later stages? I really do take so much really high quality steel to the scrap yard every year. It'd be great to make something out some of it.
Bjrogg
-
This one is stock reduction, annealed, shaped, normalized three times and heat treated with a three second quench in warm water then straight into oil. Tempered in my toaster over.
Thanks Eddie
-
i've been meaning to make a post with pics but i just haven't gotten it done yet :-[
i got my knife on saturday i'll have pics up hopefully tomorrow :-X
and i'm almost done with mine i just need to sharpen it and slap a sheath together and it'll be out the door.
