My son wants to make his own shooting tabs. I've heard that groundhog hide is tough, and they're easy enough to get, so if we bark tan a couple 'chucks, do you think that leather would make good shooting tabs? If not, what kind of critter skin would you use? (preferably a critter we can get in pennsylvania.)

Probably would-I've made "buckskin" form groundhog hide before. It's really tough, but pretty thin-you might have to build it up a few layers thick to make a tab. The thick neck skin from a deer would work well, too.

oh....i just killed a two this year......perfect leather for tough work...good rawhide too
