Anyone ever make a yew flatbow with a cut-in arrow shelf? Although I love the beauty and design of the longbow with a rounded belly for yew, it just seems taboo to think of such a concept for a yew selfbow. Any thoughts on this? Could you make a selfbow in a flatbow design with a cut-in shelf on yew just like you would on osage? Would it be inferior to an osage selfbow of similar design in terms of performance?

Can't see why you couldnt

My first one did. Not super deep, maybe a 1/4" then glued a piece of leather soaked in CA to make it bigger

You can cut a shelf on any type of wood.

There are lots of yew flatbows here on forum that match your question.
