I'm looking for the iconic painting or drawing of Fred Bear kneeling behind a rock or stump with a Kodiak or Polar bear coming around the rock. Thinking of this for my next year's Classic Raffle Table project. Any help of info will be appreciated.
-
Pat, there is a sportsman channel video on U tube that has a scene you may be after. Awful fast though.

Thanks Piddler, that last scene is the one I was looking for. Someone sent me a still pic of that action so I think I'm good to go.
I love watching those old movies. :OK

Can’t wait to see what you make Pat

Hopefully something like this, Brian. Although, Fred shot lefty. He was right handed but as a kid he lost part of a finger on his right hand making it hard to draw with that hand.

Can't wait to see it finished

Been working on it a little lately. Getting the shooter's shape just right, the bear is coming along and thinking about the scene set up. I'll post more pics soon. :OK
-
I started working on the base. Got the foam pieces glued up yesterday. Been working a bit on the shooter too and playing with the staging the figures to see how and where it all fits.

I started shaping the base on a slant with sandpaper then covered the glue joints before I start covering with strips of newspaper then tissue paper before adding the finishing touches. I'll post more pics soon.

That’s going to be awesome Pat
It’s sure to be popular with the raffle.

WOW Pat that is looking good, their goes some more of my money, I never win one but I have to try. ??? ;) :) I do have one of me on my work bench that you gifted me and the Grand kids are already arguing over who will get it when i am gone. :-\ :)

Got more done. Shaped the foam base(beach) and covered it with newspaper strips then started staging the scene. I'm sure it will change somewhat between now and the finished product. The bow is Pacific yew...

Looking great so far Pat.
Love watching it come together
Bjrogg
-
You are making some head way Pat, looking sweet. :)
Pappy
-
It's slow work anyway waiting for glue to dry before moving on to the next step but it is fun watching it all come together.
Save up your nickels, Pappy. I'll put in a good word for you with the ladies at the raffle table. ;)
-
This is so cool, Pat, and I love all the process pics. Even in its current form, thinking about arrowing a griz at that range gets my heart pumping just a little bit...
-
Thanks, WB. It is a process and I wanted to show it step by step. My wife is an artist and specializes in paper mache and other mixed media so she is my advisor. She is very good at perspective and proportions as far as the figures go.
That would be a scary situation to be in. In the picture I'm using as a guide the shooter has a guy standing behind him with a gun but even that would be scary.
-
That's looking great Pat. Still following along.
-
Just plain cool Pat....A lot of articulate shaping going on there.
Putting colors on that will really make it come alive.
-
You are right Ed, adding the color will bring it alive. I'm struggling with the shooter now trying to get his clothing and accessories just right. I like his stance and his placement in the scene but now getting his kit together and making sure his clothing is appropriate and getting all that worked out is critical for the end result. The shooter's identity isn't critical but everything else is.
The end result and what makes it successful is the amount of donations it brings to Twin Oaks and the Tenn. Classic on the raffle table. I've been amazed just how much my other dioramas or whatever they are called have contributed to the Classic.
-
Thanks again PAT, everyone that has been there the last several years always looks forward to what you are going to come up with each year including myself. I assure the money it brings is put to good use to enhance the place and make thing better for all our friends that attend. :) :)
Pappy
-
No thanks needed, Pappy. As much as you and Twin Oaks Bowhunters have given me over the years in entertainment and friendships I think I'm still getting the best of the situation. All I've invested it a little time, paper, glue and paint. As long as I am able I'll be at the Classic and have something in hand to help support the Tennessee Classic. I know the friendship and comradery will be waiting for me when I get there. :OK
-
Starting to do some painting...

Looking good Pat.
I think I recognize one of those arrows in the background.
It’s good you do this for the Classic Pat. You also give so much to the archers on this site.
Thanks
Bjrogg
-
That is your arrow, Brian. I've been trying to get my "man cave" under control a bit. I have so many bows and arrows that I've collected over the years and I need a place to exhibit them all.
This diorama will be coming to life as the painting and set up continues.
Pappy and the gang at Twin Oaks have been good to me over the years so I'm just giving a little back. Same with our PA family. I learned what I know from others so giving back is easy.
-
Pat I know what you mean about needing a place to exhibit the stuff you have collected.
Not saying it’s the case , but if you don’t have a spot for that arrow I was thinking you could put it on pappy’s raffle. My original intent was to send it to you with the driftwood stand and a note telling you if you didn’t have space for it you could put it on Pappys raffle.
It looks pretty good where it is though. ;)
Bjrogg
-
Brian, I keep all my gifted arrows. Finding a place to display them will come in time. :OK
...got a little more done...

Looking good Pat
Bjrogg
-
Looks nice
Pat about how many hours do you have in it so far?
-
Hard to tell Rob. Maybe 20 to 30 hours so far but there is lots of in between time waiting for glue and paint to dry that isn't counted. It's definitely a labor of love. :OK
-
Looking better all the time Pat. ;)
Pappy
-
Really like the clothing and hat. That is looking awesome Pat....
-
Looks GREAT!
-
Another sneak peek. Added the beach sand and rocks but need to finish up the beach and attach the driftwood and finish the bear. The shooter is complete but not yet attached...

The next time you'll see this is on the raffle table at Twin Oaks' Bowhunters The Tenn. Classic. Please help to fill this jar with tickets. It all goes to a good cause, supporting the Tennessee Classic(May 5, 6, 7 at Twin Oaks Bowhunters Club).
-
WOW Pat that is beautiful. Can't wait to see it live. Thanks !!!!!! :)
Pappy
-
I'm already thinking about next years project, Pappy. :OK
-
You are so talented Pat, and always so generous. great work.
-
Really nice Pat. I always enjoy seeing these go from nothing to something amazing.
And even better how generous the cause.
Bjrogg
-
Wow! Very nice!

Good to see you here, Kenneth. Hope y'all didn't get too much snow recently. ::) I know it what y'all have needed for a few years now. (S)
