Title: BBI elb, and a maple PH hickory trilam elb... (probably picture heavy)
Post by: toomanyknots on June 15, 2013, 09:17:26 pm
Heres a couple english longbows I have made recently. First one is a bamboo backed ipe, 72 3/4" nock to nock, and 67# @ 28", or 80# @ 32".

Second one is a hard maple backed, purple heart core, and hickory belly trilam. 65 7/8" from nock to nock, and 40# @ 28". The strike plate is a buffalo horn overlay. Initially I made this one for Thesquirrelslinger on here as he was wantin one of my elbs and I told him I'd make him one, but it came out way too light as he was wanting 60# - 65# or so. So I will have to go back to the drawing board and whip him up another real quick, :).

Your bows just keep getting better buddy :)  Very nice work on both of those.  Your tillering is bang-on, the glue joints look perfect, and your finishing details are top notch!

I'm impressed. Lovely bows.
the only thing I would do differently is to make sure the edges of the bamboo were a bit more rounded going into the nocks. It's ok to have the last inch or two completely round to blend into the nocks....but i'm picking faults on otherwise perfect bows.
 :) :) :)

Like them both TMK,especially the BBI.  Tiller and finish look great.  Got a good piece of Ipe, and a BBI is on the menu for me.

BTW Did you know there's a tax on ELBs made outside the UK? It's tin of Tuna per bow ::) Just PM 'em to me I'll eat 'em at my leisure see they get to the right gowernment depatment  O:).

It's about 1/8" thick, so is the backing as well. I don't know, for this weight and length of bow I think it worked out perfect at 1/8", as the tips are 3/8", so there is an 1/8" of each laminate at the tips.

Very handsome, great tiller.

They shoot an arrow pretty nice when I can actually put an arrow in the target,  :o, here is one I missed shot off the ipe bow, and hit the concrete side of my house narrowly missing one of my wifes flower pots! (I was shooting arrows spined around 110 - 115 or so @ 28", so I had to aim like 3 feet to the side of the target to get them to go where I wanted,  ;D):

Also, I talked the tuna situation over with the residents of the house, and they don't seem too happy about the idea of so much tuna leaving their house...
