This is the second of 2 bows I made from the stave on the "Old Wormy Osage" post. I decided to do the two sister bows as opposites of each other. The first was a 66" bendy handle. I did this one as a "Blackhawk" inspired "Holmie-ish" style bow. Really liked working with this stave in an odd, I hate you kind of way. Very dense piece of Sage with a deep dark reddish color to it. As pretty a piece of wood as I've seen in a while. But not a very user friendly piece of wood at all. Twists and turns and kinks galore. A lot of heat straightening on this one, but the biggest problem was the snakey curve on the bottom limb. It not only curved left to right, but it was banked at about 30 percent or so, and only thru the curve for about 4 or 5 inches, so a lot of torque was applied in a small area to get it close to level again. The belly began to split open at one point, but I was still thick, so I sanded out the split and left it. It's much better but it made tillering it really difficult. In the full draw pic you can see the twist. I'm happy with the tiller, and I think it's pretty close to right, but it does appear off in different ways from different angles. I also missed my target weight on it by a few pounds because of it. After all the carping I've done on here about that issue, I think it was the bow gods taking me down a notch or two. Anyway, very pleasant sweet shooter. I heated in 6 inches of reflex and it holds about 4 1/2 inches of that at rest. It pulls about 43 lbs at 28 inches, and with the recurves and lower weight you can shoot it all day and never break a sweat. Lastly, I want to say thanks to PEARL DRUMS for sending me the build along on the Strunk Handle Wrap. It's my first attempt at it, but I think it turned out ok. Thanks for looking and any and all comments welcome!

Kevin
-
I think ya nailed that one
-
Blackhawk. I've been shooting it with lite arrows and I believe it's every bit as fast as some of my heavier bows. Glad you checked in, and thanks!
-
thats a beauty.
-
Only thing better than Twisted Sister is Twisted Twins! ;D >:D Very cool bow, Bob. 8)
-
Homerun Slim!!! Every thing about that bow is perfect, that sucker is sweet. ..... and no pink handle wrap either. :)
-
Slim! Beautiful red Osage and the leather and wrap colors on the limbs you chose really set it off. That's some lovely looking character and gorgeous work you done...You said the bow gods took you down a notch? I don't think so buddy, not even. My hat's off to ya...

Nice bow! Excellent all around. You nailed that Strunk handle wrap too. Do you have any trouble with that style of wrap working loose?
-
2 very hot chicks ya got there Slim.
And twisted to boot....yeeee haaaaa
-
A real beauty, she's got some major bends too!
-
Adam, first one I've done. I love the looks of it and I mentioned in a post a week ago or so that I had never done one, so Pearl emailed the link too me. I can speculate though, that it wont work loose. It's looped on and tight as dicks hatband. I think it will hold no problem.
Greg, it was red....really.
Donald, thanks man, but we can all stand to be humbled from time to time. Keeps us hungry.
Thanks to all who have checked in. Really appreciate it.
BTW, the overlays are plum. interestingly, it turns a darker rose color as time goes by. The darker one was done a month ago or 2. It darkens as time goes by into a peachy color. Really like it.
-
Like those overlays, real nice looking with that well seasoned dark osage.
-
I think I'm falling too! Wicked sweet looker and I imagine, shooter.
-
Nice lines Slim. Even I can tell that bow is "right". I like those deep string nocks and the tips.
-
That is a hot one Slim and a popular name. RyanO, me, and I think Pearlie Boy did one named that. And a good band, too :D
-
That puts me in pretty good company! I remember them on tour with a band called Ratt. Hair band days if I recall.
-
AWESOME!
-
Very nice!
-
Those tips looks great Slim
-
Nice Dee Snider bow! I love the color of that osage. You have sure made some nice bows out of that discarded piece of osage.
-
I think i've fallen in love too. Man that brace and FD is super nice. Good job... Chuck
-
That's is supper sweet.... The curves are awesome and the twist...well what can I say, their hot!
-
That is one good looking lass 8)
Must have been a battle all the way buy you smashed it. Ton of reflex too plus the recurves opening up at draw, class.
I like the way the overlay and tip looks like a shark.
-
Nice work Bob!
-
Great looking bow, love the tips and the strunk style grip
-
Outstanding , whats not to like about that

Thanks all, ohma2, falcon, PEARL, dwardo, lebhuntfish, HighEagle, Clint, IdahoMatt, Arrowind, RyanR, Mullet, owlbait, Peacebow_Coos, Badly Bent, Hrothgar, Doobs, adb, Donald, Pat B, BOWMAN53, bubby, Kevin, Blackhawk, Grady, and anybody I may have missed.
I have been shooting it for a few weeks now. Pearl mentioned something in a post yesterday that I agree with, and it's importance is magnified on this bow. Brace height. I tend toward a lower brace height as a rule and that's just no bueno on this one. 6 inches sprays arrows all over the target. 7 inches (from the back) it's tame as a kitten.
-
Awesome job on a difficult stave!I love me a nice lever!
-
Wow, super nice profile!
-
Beautifully!
-
Very nice bows! :)
-
Mmmmm, waggletastic ;D

The amazing thing to me is that junky piece of wood lay out in my pasture for almost 10 years. Now it has become two great looking bows!
-
Bushboy, tmk, adams89, vmb, del...thanks guys, appreciate it.
tipi stuff, yeah that was a good find Curt. I owe you one, or three, or...alright I stopped counting a while ago. Thanks!
-
Looks like a super sweet all day shooter to me! Nicely done Slim! Josh
-
Real nice job Slim. Thats a dandy for sure.
-
Josh and WhitefeatherFout, thanks guys. Appreciate it.
-
Those are great looking! I would love to be able to build bows like that!
-
Thanks Sasquatch. You can! I know that because I can and I have no specials skills at all outside of bulldog tenacity. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
-
That's a fine looking bow and X 2 on the brace height issue. Too low on a bow like that and it really wrecks the performance. I hope you can will me some of that tenacity. I am working on one now that has whoopty do's and snakes and all sorts of nasty things going on. It is probably out of my pay grade, but I will press on. Seeing bows like these posted is always an inspiration. Again, that is really a great looking bow.
-
Thanks Howard. I'll bet you can pull it off. Looking forward to the post on it.
-
I don't always post on bows... but when I do, they are beautifully made like this one. Stay building my friend.
-
What can I say that has'nt already been said. Stellar job in every way. Danny
-
Slimbob, this is an absolutely beautiful, difficult piece of Sage you have turned into the epitome of what a spectacularly crafted primitive bow is suppose to look like and I'm sure it shoots as true as it is gorgeous. Excellent craftsmanship.
-
Dave Danny and xin, appreciate it guys.
-
That is a great bow! Nice tiller. Jawge
-
Thanks Jawge.
