Note yhe displaced lot in last pic :P

The tiller looks a little stiff on the tips. Take a bit more weight off there and you will reduce your handshock. Other than that, they look great!!! >:D
-
I'm working on a take down made from a 50 -60 year old fence post as we speak...SOME GOOD WOOD IN THOSE OLE POSTS
-
Ahh yeah, that's some good stuff! Oughta be able to get a few outta those! Look nice and straight.
Talk about getting bit by the bug ::)
-
Are those little bugs in the third picture?
-
Fire ants?
-
Those displaced guest don't look too happy ;D How're you gonna convince em to move on? >:D
-
Looking forward to seeing them split and see what is inside. Most of the time it is amazing what you find in them old post, and sometimes disappointment. Will Hope for the best. :) :) Either way it makes good fire wood /Knife handles/tip overlays and all sorts of other neat stuff. :)

Bend thru the handle types. I like 'em ! ' Frank

Last time I was down south in the land of yellow wood, I went out on dads ranch and cut a nice walking stick. was working away on the top when I realized it was full of them ol fire ants. Didn't feel the stings very much at first ::) then I started finding out how far up the legs they had made it. :o >:(
-
If you have a stave that you suspect has grubs in it just place it on a fire ant bed and tomorrow you won't have grubs any more. When the grubs are gone the fire ants go back home. ;)
-
I was kinda wondering which ring you chose to follow!

That is good to know thanks ;)

Fire ants do a decent job removing flesh from a skull for a European style mount as well. If I didn't hate them so much I'd say they were occasionally handly. But, I hate them too much.

White woods really exceptable to boders. In ash they go deep. White woods not like osage that has lots of oils and raisins to stop interal rot.. Give it a try but likely if it's been out side. Those weather checks go really deep and so do boarers if you have them I your area.. I tryed ASH and BL POSTS. I split and tryed 6 or 7 post back in 88 never could find any that was solid enough to make a bow.
I did find some ash posts in a barn that had never been in the weather these were 45 years old. The wood boarers were there but I still made bows from them. I've found that it's better to fill the holes with saw dust a supper glue. And if it white wood back it. But Ive make HICKORY and just left them alone.
-
Can't wait to see what you make with those! I love fence post bows! I've had good luck with mine :)
-
No extra charge for the piss ants Soy! I got ten more of those Osage posts ready for splitting when I get the time. Hopefully, they will have as good of wood as the ant nest did! Josh

Man! You done that piece of wood justice! I REALLY like that one Soy :) all around awesomeness!
-
A fine job on that one, Soy!
-
WOW! Absolutely Gorgeous!!!
My compliments on a beautiful bow.
-
Nice work soy, beautiful bend on that one!
George
-
That there is a fine bow! The thing I like the most is you used something that most people would just discard or cut up for firewood.
-
Great save on that old post. You made one fine looking bow out of it.
-
Thanks guys i hope to get at least one more done of the post ...the thing i like most on this one is the dark streaks that were under the cracks and borrer holes :o and i am very impressed at how little wood is there to make such a fast bow...makes me cringe every time i brace it...it is my first shorty but will not be my last.
-
wow soy, ya really pulled a sweet bow outta that old ant nest.
well done!
-
Flat out cool bow. You did a great job with that, old sage post wood can be some tough stuff to work but the end it can reward you for the effort, again nice work.
Greg
-
Thats sweeeeet!!!! Your best work to date IMHO ;)
-
I'm digging the ant efigy tip overlays! I have definitely never seen that before! Josh
-
Stunning stuff these old fence post bows. I would think twice about burning something that ugly and yet you get a bow from it.
-
Thanks again all ...could not have done it with out gun doc from materials to tiller advice ;)
-
I appreciate the sentiment, but you deserve all the credit. I played a very small part. I agree with Blackhawk, your finest work yet! Beautiful tiller. Even the knotty sections are working hard. Well done ol buddy, very well done! Josh

Duh! After shooting that bow, I would kick you for even considering hunting with any thing else! That bow is just awesome! Thanks for letting me fondle and shoot it. Josh
