Title: Presque Isle 5th Annual Traditional/Primitive shoot
Post by: Ryano on March 21, 2010, 12:02:26 pm
This shoot is sneaking up on us fast ! The dates for this year's shoot is Friday May 28th, Saturday May 29th, and Sunday May 30th (campers may arrive earlier please give me a yell). The cost is $10.00 per person per day.  Kids under 12 are free, camping is free, and we supply fire wood for free. We are located in Northwest Pennsylvania, 564 Moore Rd., Waterford, PA 16441 for more info call or email me (Ryan) @ 814-580-0858 or ryanocycleshop@coaxpa.com

We have traditional vendors, door prizes, and an awesome "BREAKFAST BUFFET" served on both Saturday and Sunday morning in the club house. Hamburger, hot dogs, and beverages with also be available in the club house for lunch.
Saturday night we have a "POTLUCK DINNER" everyone brings a dish to pass and we all get together for some good eats!

We have a very unique shoot with two 25+ target courses through nicely wooded rolling terrain with small creeks and bridges. We also have several moving novelty targets set up through out the courses, such as a Running Whitetail Deer, a Treed Bear with hounds, a spinning strutting turkey, a charging Boar, and a flying down Turkey. Last year, we also added an after dark Coon shoot, so bring a Flash light!

We also have a couple of unique contests on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday is our "SMOKER ROUND" we set a "Special course" with a mixture of 3D and home made 2D targets.
The object is to shoot through our "Special Course" with only one arrow for score.  The person able to finish the course with the highest score wins.  If you loose or break your arrow and are unable to finish you are out of the running.  You may only carry one arrow with you.  There will be two classes, natural (Wood/Cane/bamboo) and Man made (Carbon/aluminum/fiberglass).  You may continue to shoot your one arrow (even if it breaks) in order to finish the course.....The cost is $5 per person, one class per person only please. The winner splits the pot with the Club. (Last years winner won like $45)

Our other contest is on Sunday.  It's called the "TRADITIONAL BOW HUNTER CHALLENGE".  This contest is free to enter.  We set up a qualifier at the practice range some time sunday AM. You must shoot your best to qualify.  We only take the top 5 shooters for the actual contest.  This contest is a woods walk where we test your knowledge and ability as a actual traditional bow hunter.  You should bring anything you think you may need with you as if you were on a real hunt (No Broadheads though please).  Extra points may be awarded for being prepared for anything.... The winner of this contest will receive a nice prize and a trophy.

A BIG THANK YOU ! Go's out to all those of you that have attended this shoot in the past and have helped make this event what it is today.
We hope to see you all back this year as well as plenty of new faces this year !

Pappy,  I used to be "The Hawk" until you and Greg gave me that name... speaking of needs, I would hope that you might have the perfect stave that I could buy and give to Ryan to make me a bow like he made Greg, I can't get Greg's bow off my mind, I saw a bow in Florida that was made by a man named Jones and it was beautiful like Greg's so maybe in your Heart you might think about your ole buddy Cha-Ching... And as for Ryan getting a knife and a hawk from Chris, he sure knows how to rub it in. Do you think that Chris could send a knife and hawk with you to the Tennessee Classic, or I guess I could wait till the Presque Isle shoot. I really look foreword to seeing you Dudes again. Cha-Ching

Hawk, I've got a real pretty one I'm bringing to the Classic John Pruett made. Is John still coming?
Title: Re: Presque Isle 5th Annual Traditional/Primitive shoot
Post by: CHA-CHING on April 15, 2010, 11:21:36 am
Eddy, I have a small one that I carry sometimes, probably more for decoration than any thing else, I made a very nice handle out of hickory for it and did a little carving on it also, but I got it from John about 10 to 12 years ago. but I need one to throw at those big hunks of logs, not the small ones , like 10 ft diameter .  I talk with John at least once a month, so I'll call him and ask if he is still comming to the Classic. I think because of his finances he probably need to sell some of his bows and etc. I wish that he could come to these different shoots around the country, he has so much talent ,that most of us just stand amazed what he can do with so little. Chris , the one in Ryan's post that made him a knife and spike hawk also made me two mountain folding knifes that I wouldn't trade or sell . he also made a quiver out of birchbark that I will bring to the shoots that you will droll over, I did. I started out in my adult life as a journeyman tool and die maker and automotive engineer, I know how to design and build stuff, but would trade that in a minute for the talent that I've seen in my travels to these wonderful shoots. Cha-Ching

Charlie that's a elm bark quiver not birch.....  ;D I actualy have a nice stash of osage staves here seasoning now, but there not quite a year old yet. I'll make you a bow like Gregs some day I promise but it may be a year or two. I actualy made the knife and hawk myself with Chris's help Charlie. See my thread in the campfire section.  ;D
Title: Re: Presque Isle 5th Annual Traditional/Primitive shoot
Post by: CHA-CHING on April 16, 2010, 01:26:05 am
Ryan, Yup I checked out Bob's hawk too, I really like the Spike Hawk  and the knife, like the thread said he can't wait to see it finished. The Spike Hawk looks like it will cut the sticking in half because of the spike on the other end... Now were talking....

Eddy just forgive me for saying it was  Birch instead of Elm, your still going to just love it... Charlie

Ryan, just remember you promised, Take your time and just let me know when you want to start the little beauty ? I don't know how you could improve on Greg's bow...   I would be grateful for one as beautiful as his.    Charlie

Ryan,
I missed your shoot last year because I was hunting turkeys and regretted it afterwards.
This year I'll give up the end of the turkey season and head for Presque Isle.
There should be a good bunch of Hawkeye members there again.
Lookin' forward to a fun weekend, see you guy's at the end of the month.

OK Dudes, this is how it really was, I got to the Classic on Monday afternoon and set up camp took care of getting a couple staves for my Grand Children and shot the practice range with Fiddler Ray and had a ball. Tuesday woke up to a beautiful day enjoyed Maws cooking and shot the practice range twice that that day, had a great time talking with all the regulars that come early to enjoy the Classic. the same thing Wednesday, Thursday and Part of Friday. With all that fun I was worn to a frazzle. I really do feel bad about the rain, I knew it was coming and Maw said if we left early she could make an appointment that she would have had to cancel. I was very thankful to being there early and to really enjoy so much before the rain was to come. I felt really bad for the ones that love the Classic as much as I do and didn't have the opportunity to do what Maw and I did. I know how hard Pappy and the Twin Oaks team worked to prepair the best shoot possible. Lord willing we all will be back next year and the rain will only be a memory.  Charlie

PS I look forward to hearing Pappy doing the Cow Horn Boogie at Presque Isle. I can't wait to see all you folks and Play.

I appreciate you coming and always enjoy the time I get to spend with you and Maw.I will have more time at Ryan's,I get to set back and watch them do all the work, and I know how much trouble it can be. So a big thanks to Ryan and all the others that make this happen,it is deeply appreciated. :) :)

Jon, I checked out you bow on the BOW sight and all the comments are right it is an awesome bow and has an extreme finish. I picked up one of Davids bows at the Classic that Jesse built, I renamed it "Heat" The bow is short, no pinch extreme reflex and deflex and smooth as silk. I bought it because I thought it would be perfect for my tree stands. It will be coming to Presage Isle with me "Heat" is kinda ugly compared to your Beauty, (don't tell Jesse). I sure hope you can come with Pappy, we had a great time last year didn't we Bro Dan????

My source told me that there will be hawks for sale. and your question directed to Maw and road kill.  Maw said that between Detroit and Presque Isle we should RUN across something... Chuck

We can meet you at midnight, be at the shoot about 8am, Ryan can have breakfest waiting for us. Let us know if is Wed or Thurs. I was trying  to talk Woody into coming with you, when we were at the Classic, we hung out pretty much down there, he's a hoot, see what you can do.  Bro Dan

If I'm not up there yet just make yourselves at home Pappy.  You'll find I expanded our camping area back into the woods a ways where were last year.

Ryan,
This is my first time attending your shoot,
what should I look for as I drive down Moore Rd.? Is there a sign or just an address marker?
Kevin

Kevin,

Take the 90 west out of Buffalo.  Get off at exit 27 (Rt 97) in Erie, PA.  Turn left going south on Rt 97 towards Waterford.  You'll pass the race track on your left.  Proceed down 97 for 6.2 miles.  It seems like forever.  The first dirt road on your right is Moore Rd. There is usually a sign for PIFA Traditional shoot.  Turn right and it a mile or so down the road. You cant miss it.

See you there,

Glenn
