i finally managed to finish a bow that was started during the bow challenge at the 10th TN Classic. it's the stave i was given as a welcome present by GregB and Pappy (you may have read about it in my article). i shot the bow during the bow challenge, but since PatB decided not to keep score, neither did i ;D
anyway, i had missed weight during the challenge and decided to let it be. once back in germany, AndrewS was kind enough to guide me (making it a truly international cooperation project ;D ) while i piked it, flipped the tips and finished tillering it. it's now 61" ntn, 1 3/4" at the fades and 1/2" at the tips. it pulls 52lbs @ 25" (right where i wanted it)
and it is backed with the best medicine out there, the signatures of some of my friends in the US of A ( i wish more of you would have been at last year's classic)
no OldBow, that does not make it a laminated bow ;D and here a few pictures
see if you can find your signature ;D

Very nice and a neat idea....not laminated but definately backed!!!! ;)
-
That tiller is right on. Excellent backing idea too. Jawge
-
Very nice bow and nice article in the magazine about that.
Alan
-
Very cool! ;DWho else can say they have an offical redneck bow in your part of the woods?
-
Great looking bow, Marius, looks like you done that chunk of Tennessee 'sage proud- helluva nice weapon without the autographs, something special with them. Boy Ridgerunner John Hancocked that sucker, didn't he? ;D
-
lowell, thanks. there is noting like being backed by your friends ;D
jawge, a compliment like that from a master bowyer like you, means a lot to me. thanks.
WR, thanks but i still haven't seen the article :(
augie, the sad part is: the bow is a certified redneck bow (and you're right, it's the only one i know of in germany ;D ) but the owner is not, because a certain bearded individual forgot the PBR >:D
thanks hillbilly, this bow DOES mean a lot to me. ridgerunner was critical in the tillering phase. i always knew which the lower limb was ;D
-
Very nicely done Dusty,That thing turned out great,Nice tiller and I love the backing. ;D ;D
I must have signed it small. ;)
Pappy
-
Marius, you do realize that you have to bring it back to visit us don't you? :)
-
pappy, your's is right by the handle (third segment from the top, on the right hand side) you and greg where the first to sign it, remember?
hillbilly, that i promise. and with a little help from my friends, (hmmm...sound like a good song title ;D ) i should get it bloodied too, maybe even using the arrows you and pat gave me. wouldn't that be awesome?
-
Pretty cool bow Marius it definately has some mojo in her. Well done eh :)
-
Very nice, and plenty of length for that draw. I was wishing I'd signed it, but then I saw my name so I guess I did. Homemade beer will do that.
-
Me too Lennie.
Having read his article in this PA, I wonder also whether Dusty got confused about the difference between homebrew and moonshine, or whether he had a shot at both!
-
dana, i wish your signature was on there :( that would indicate, we finally met in person.
lennie, yep know the feeling well ;D
DCM, the right answer is both, of course. how could i pass an opportunity like that >:D
-
Marius, that special bow really turned out very special! Great tiller, and I'd bet it shoots really well. It was a privilege to meet you last year at the Classic and hope you can make it back soon. Might have to hunt with a couple of different bows if you know what I mean... ;)
I've heard rumor that PBR is to be shared in your honor this year in your absense. Stay tuned for pictures.... ;D
-
Man alive!! Did I ever do a number on that. ;D
I was one of the first to sign it and I had lots of room. Also, a heavy hand.
Just to let yall know, I am not nearly as loud and obnoxious as that signature would suggest. ::)
Marius, that is one fine looking bow.
David
-
excellent job marius. thats a keeper for sure. peace
-
Wanderfull bend on that bow !!...very pleasing to the eye
-
greg, it does like a 500gr arrow, so i hope i'm within hunting weight on both bow and arrow. and i'm deffinitely not worried about "two deer" ;D but i have to contradict you, my friend, the privilege was mine. the beauty of it is, with friends like you, pat and hillbilly....who needs enemies? ;D
david, i thought it was your ego ;D but as i said, i truly appreciate your assistance during the tillering process.
jamie, thanks. you are right this bow is very special to me.
thanks mannie, and that from a master like you.
you know, i just realized that pretty much every one of you guys is a better bowyer than me, so i realy appreciate y'alls compliments.
-

That comment only applies to those who replied above the statement. Now that you made the comment I can reply. Great job on the bow my friend. It is a well traveled bow also. It trekked 2200 miles across the USA, narrowly missed a tornado in Kansas and was in a blizzard at 12000 feet in Colorado, then spent a few days in the desert of Southwest US before it was shipped to Germany. Justin
-
justin, you're so full of it ;D i saw the ELB you crafted based on badgers formula. what a masterpiece that was (and i don't even like ELBs ;D )
but you're right, without your help i wouldn't be posting this symbol of friendship. in fact this morning i was telling my brother-in-law (he took the pictures in this thread) and his wife how the bows got to germany and who made the bowsocks for all three bows. by the way, those three osage bows are my only bows that always travel in bowsocks. redneck nobility ;D
PS: just got my login and password for the e-mag. what a cool feature. now i get my magazine before pat and hillbilly >:D i read the article, looked at the pictures and memories started flooding back. what a great time we had. but i didn't remember the article to be that long ;D
-
justin, you're so full of it ;D
I wont even try to deny that I am full of it, but what does that have to do with anything. ;) Justin
-
your feeble attempt to imply you were not amongst the ones i referred to as being better bowyers than me, triggered my potentially missleading statement. i apologize ;D
-
Now you are full of it. Justin
-
yep, and proud of it too ;D
-
Your both full of it ::) ;) ;D
-
The bow, even without the autographs would be awesome! But with them...TRULY SPECIAL. Very well done and something to be very proud of.
Saw Filer
-
Turned out great!... If we do that again we should get different colored markers, like green, grey, and brown. That way your bow would already be camo! ;) Mossy Hillbilly or Redneck Realtree! lol :D....Brian
-
The bow came out very well, Marius. The tiller looks right on and the backing is superb! ;) Just keep rubbing in about the PBR. >:( Oh heck, you know I can't be mad at you! :-*
I still haven't got my new PA mag so I can't comment on your article. I'm sure it is adequate. ;D
Pat
-
dana, you're so right ;D but that's part of this forum's charm (at least for me it is)
filer, i am proud to be the owner (not so much the maker) because of what the bow stands for.
koan, love that idea (and hillbilly already started growing some moss in his face ;D )
pat, thanks but as long as you keep bringing up the loot i took with me, i will bring up the one experience i was deprived of >:D and offering to bring PBR to this year's classic, knowing that i won't be there is just the icing on the cake. ;D
-
Marius, that's a well done bow and you know I like it ;)
-
Marius, this years Tn. Classic just won't the same without you. Can't you quit your job temporarily, make the Classic, then reapply for your position afterwards??? ;D
I'm a lite-weight when it comes to drinking, but I'll have a beer in your honor...maybe even a PBR! ;)
-
thanks andrew. it wouldn't be the same without your help.
greg, go ahead and break my heart. you know how much i want to be there, especially this year. after reading the article i considered that option but i've been with the US Army for almost 25 years now (and have 20 more to go, thanks to the retirement laws in germany) so it's kinda hard to quit a job like that, especially if you like it as much as i like mine ;D
but it irks (sp?) me that a certain bearded gentleman from NC would bring PBR to the classic when i'm absent and you, who i used to consider a friend would not miss an opportunity to rib me about it. wait a second....why does that remind me of "two deer"? ;D
-
That came out realy nice Marius! Great article as well congrats!
-
Marius I guess I will have to break Pappy's rules and smuggle some PBR and Stroh's in eh >:D
You would like the Stroh's better than the PBR ;D
-
Great entry for March Self Bow of the Month. Thanks for the good pictures, too.
-
oldbow, thanks for considering it. my brother-in-law took the pictures. i'll let him know you liked them
dana, "you too, brutus?"
ryan, thanks for the compliments. you couldn't wait with your entry, let's say for another week? ;D
-
dusty! - that's a nice now!!! ...and yes: not laminated, but backed...HEAVILY!!! 8) 8) 8)
frank
-
Very, very nice work. A special bow, with all the autographs!
-
nice bow. beutiful. i realy need to learn how to do that.
-
thanks guys.
frank, not as purty as your copperhead/sage ;D you made some very nice bows yourself lately.
-
Great job Marius on the bow and the article also We sure will miss you this year
Ron
-
ron, thank you my friend. not only for the compliments but also for your hospitality and especially for the pick-up service. will you please say "hi" to the cincinnati boys for me?
-
Very good, it's a really nice bow, and all the medicine in it makes for a great all-round weapon. ;)
Sean
-
I will be glad to say hi to Cinci boys and will be thinking of you the first time we turn up the Mason jar
Ron
-
thanks ron, i appreciate it. wish i was there for it. i was somewhat reluctant to mention the moonshine in my article, but it was too good, not to be mentioned ;D
sean thanks for the kind words.
-
Dana, I believe Pappy distributes PBR. And as for Strohs, spell it backwards. That is what they make it out of. ;D
Marius, I'll not make anymore promises. You'll just have to find out for yourself the next time you come. ;) We will miss you this year but will think about you as we tip the jar. ;) Pat
-
deal, pat. you know it's just a matter of time before i show up across the pond. now if i can time it right and get my babies bloodied, it would be even better. since i can't bring the meat back, we would have to eat it all there, while we sample fermented and/or distilled beverages. life would be good ;D
-
life would be good
Amen! ;)
