I've been foolin around with some different r/d shapes on Osage selfbows for the last couple months. This is the fifth and my favorite so far. I built this bow with one thing in mind. Deer killin! >:D Its from a very dark set of matched billets I've been holding onto for a while now. I'd say it's some of the most beautiful Osage I've ever run across! So I decided after shooting the bow in for a week or so that it shot so well I would have to put a killer set of skins on it and make it my #1 hunting bow for next year :) I talked my wife into going outside and taking a couple pics for me so I could share it with you folks :) thanks fer lookin! :o

Nicely done in every detail Will, a real fine bow there. I'll be wanting to see that beauty up close, wheres its gonna be hanging up at the classic this spring so I can come by and admire it.
Looks like it puts the arrows where you want 'em too. :)

-
That is one fine looking bow. Very nice work Sir!
-
Well Mr Will H youve given me my homework. I like that profile alot and im gonna tr it out. Already got the stave for it. I usually dont like to see shelves cut in to selfbows but that one suits it. Very nice.
-
Wow man. Now that's a how. Well done I love everything about that one. Looks like a joy to shoot with not having to strain too hard to get the job done. I hope you make meat with it in the fall ;)
-
The deer will be lining up to get shot with that beauty.
-
Beautiful, That's a piece of art that shoots. Well done
-
Very nice bow, Will. 8)

-
Wow, Will, that's a stunner!! I've been holding my own special set of coppers, looking for the right stick to put em on. I believe you nailed it with that combo. Just beautiful...
-
Beautiful bow!
-
Pure beauty!
-
Wow, really beautiful bow man! I love the colors in there. Have to try some of those copperhead skins.
-
That is some nice dark osage. Goes perfectly with those skins. Beautiful profiles, and it looks like it is a shooter! Outstanding work!

Awesome Beard dude! Oh and the bow is cool too!
Seriously....WOW that bow is amazing! It looks good from every angle. Definitely BOM material right there. Very very well done!
-
Great bow!!! Love it but my wife is a bit concerned about your wife's trust issues. You seem to hit what your aiming at! >:D
-
Sweet bow Will. My BBI has the same profile and you're right very smooth shooter. Good luck with the kill.
-
Thanks guys :)
Dan, I've made a few bamboo backed bows with very similar profiles as well. That's why I started trying it on selfbows. I'd say the selfbows shoot almost as well as my last couple BBI/BBOs do. At least they draw and shot as well maybe not quite as fast though.
-
That's a killing machine right there...I don't need to see that in person to know that ;) ....and are you drawing 28" now? Did you fix that short drawitis crap? A man of your stature should be easily pulling 28" ;)
-
Nice so very nice!!!
-
Thanks hawk, I wouldn't say it's fixed but as Jimmy Blackmon put it, "I have much more control of the shot" I am coming to full draw more but it's hard to make myself hold even for a second. My true draw is 28" right now. At 6'6" if I wanted to go fully upright "target" form I would be more like 29 or 30 but that don't work for me.
Target panic sux but I'm gettin through it finally. I hope :)
-
I know what you mean Will, I never did like holding self bows at full draw. I break all my bows in at about 28 and I only shoot them at 26 so I shouldn't be worried about holding them.
-
Good to hear your taking ahold of the reins more will ;) I went thru that a couple years ago and said enoughs enough,n grabbed a gl@$$ bow and did the whole reset button thing....stood a yard in front of a target, closed my eyes and would repeteatdly draw and hold for near ten seconds to wire that into my brain...it worked and vastly improved my accuracy, and not to mention your imparting way more energy to the arrow with a longer draw...
A lot of folks just don't trust wood bows from fear of breaking, and dont want to pull to full draw or hold at anchor because they dont want there bow to take more set(ego getting in the way there too)and it messes with there brain..I say screw that..if it doesn't want to be shot like a bow should be then it don't want to be a bow,and we know that some will break and that's just life for us who shoot wood sticks ;)
-
That is the most beautiful selfbow I've ever seen posted. Boy, would I love to see that one in hand! Well done!
The next bow I make for myself will have copperhead skins, to me osage and copperheads are the best combo.
Thanks for sharing and inspiring! Good luck with it this fall!
-
Dude this bow is downright incredible ! Such fine work you have done ! I have some mixed emotions going on right now, I am inspired very much, but mostly depressed and pissed I cant make one this good !
Thanks for sharing !

That is gorgeous, love the skins

I was looking at this bow again and comparing that braced shot to the full draw, shows the perfect R/D tiller in my mind. Willful the skillful! ;D
-
Not bad willie!! I like it! Good lines all around
-
I appreciate all the kind words guys :)
Carson- thank you, that means slit coming from you. These rd's are still kinda new to me. It's good to get some feedback on tiller shape :)
-
Missed this one, just came across at BOM
Beautiful, Will. Stunning work on a first class stave.
-
Dang will that's nice!!! you always seem to find the cool wood...kinda straight for you though isn't it Lol
-
your bows are just plain a pleasure to look at. I to like that red streaked osage.
-
Thanks again!
soy-it is pretty straight compared to a lot of my bows, I got one comin that's got a little snake to it :o I'll post it up as soon as I get time to take some decent pics ;)
-

Cipriano
-
