Finally I got some weather. This is my wiggly Yew. 65"NTN 45#@28" Best chrono 165fps at 10gpp. Most in the 162-163. I used my last Yew knot wood for the tips. Handle is Cherry bark. I cut the bark in about 1/2" strips and planked the handle. I was improving as I worked my way around the handle. Next one should be nicer. I'm using the thread at the end of the handle as the arrow pass. I've shot about 100 shots through it. Little bit of hand shock but not what I expected. I could shoot it all day. I couldn't resist making an arrow out of the offcuts. My apologies to TBB.

And last. This turned out better than I expected

Those are VERY impressive numbers for a 45 pound bow. I'm not sure why you called that lovely piece of Yew an Ugly Stick though... ;D  >:D

Sweet stick! I think that amount of wonk would intimidate me for sure. That cherry bark handle turned out awesome.

I want to know how that arrow shoots.

I love it! I am this bow's biggest fan! You're THE man DC, THE man!!!
-
I want to know how that arrow shoots.
I could send it to you if you want to try it ;D ;D There was no way I was letting go!
-
Awesome stick I wouldn't call it ugly nice numbers !
-
Absolutely LOVE the shape of that bow, but the pictures tell me it's tillered too stiff in the lower limb.
-
Nice job on a difficult stave. I've seen arrows that look like that shoot well. I'll try it (after a little tune up) if you send it to me. ;D

This is a spliced bow. When I made it the top limb broke so I cut the splice apart and spliced on a new top limb. It was a new experience having one limb complete and trying to play catch up by only tillering the new(top) limb. All through tillering I was seeing the bottom limb bend more than the top so I had it in my mind that the bottom limb was weak. That top limb was a bear to tiller. The little wiggle half way up the limb gave me fits. I guess I overshot a bit. All that said, it shoots nice so I think I'll leave it, unless something changes.

Looks like a beauty to me!! I realy like the cherry bark handle. I might have to put that on one of these bows I'm working on.
-
That is wicked cool, glad to see you got it shooting. Nice. ;)

Funky looking stick, great job with taming the curves on that one. Impressive! Looks like a smooth shooter.
-
I appreciate these kind of bows, I am the worst character stave bow maker on the planet, I just can't see the bends right. Great job!
-
Very nice work!
-
Really sweet piece there. Love the character. Nice job.
-
Thanks for all the nice comments. It means a lot. I really enjoy doing these wiggly bows. It's a nice change from a straight stick. Makes ya think. I may have enough wood in my stash for one more like this. Maybe next year.
-
Way to go. Saved funky the yew from a fate as a walking stick. I love it

Those are VERY impressive numbers for a 45 pound bow.
I've been looking through TBB mostly at chrono numbers. They all seem lower than the numbers I'm getting. I'm beginning to doubt my chrono. For those that use chronos, does this look like a bow that shoots in the low 160's? I shot 10 shoots and all except a couple of errors were between 161 and 165. So it's consistent. My bows are all in the 155-175 range and they are all 40-45#

I opened this thread expecting t see an ugly bow and instead I am greeted with a beautiful bow. Well done!

I know I posted earlier, but I can't help one more. This has got to be one of my favorites I've seen on PA yet. SO much character. You should call it... "Beauty the Beast" :) :) :)
-
Nothing ugly about that bow. Wish I had as much skill. Great job!
-
Great work with that wriggly fellah
Might have started as an ugly duckling, but it's turned into a swan.

Great job turning that piece into a shooter. Nothing ugly happening there. 8)
-
Wow! Nice tillering on that one. Beautiful job!
-
you say "ugly"....
i say that is completely freakin awesome!!!!!
-
That is a nice bow, I really like the handle : )
-
I guess maybe ugly was a bit strong. I started calling it that when I first braced it. I'm getting used to it now. I really like shooting it. If I can get 500 shots through it it may become my shooter. Thanks again for all the nice comments. I'm noticing that my hat doesn't fit quite as well as it did ;D ;D ;D
-
Fantastic! Those back-front wiggles mess with my head a lot more than the side-side ones.
-
WOW DC,
that's an eyecatcher! Awesome beutiful ugly stick there. You did a great job man.
-
This is a bow, must be relay fun building it and find out that the beauty shoot that well to:)
-How dose the arrow shoot, see it is as snaky as the bow?
-
I had offcuts from the billets and remembered the picture of the two archers looking at a wiggly arrow in TBB1(I think) so just for fun I made one. I'm afraid to shoot it. With the bent fletching there's no telling where it would go. I've had a couple of volunteers but I checked and it would cost $25 to ship to Tennessee(just picked that out of a hat). Too much for me.

Wow. Amazing character on that one

I'd shoot it, but I wouldn't expect much from it. ;)
