I finally finished up this bow that I started early this year. It’s been about 7-8 months build. Mostly waiting for cure and drying. Here’s a copy of link of initial build along…. I was going to continue with original post but figured be best to start new one.

This is a modified molle style bow completely constructed with my homemade sturgeon bladder glue that I made earlier this year. It has approx 90 grams of deer sinew on the back bending/working portion of the limbs. The belly was laminated with Buffalo horn. I went with matching horn tip overlays shaped as lightning bolts and arrow shelf. The arrow pass is made from beaver tail. The sinew was later covered with matching pair of sturgeon skins which seemed fitting as the bow was made with sturgeon glue. (Thanks again Weylin for the skins!). I really like the look of the skins on this bow. I took his advise and stained the back black prior to glue up. It took to the sturgeon glue well and adhered very well with no issues after several sessions of shooting. I called this bow “Thunderstorm” as the dark galaxy pattern and scoots reminded me of lightning so I went with this theme. The checkering handle was a journey and major learning curve. I had to practice on several pieces before getting confident enough to go at my bow handle. It turned out well in the end and love the wood look and feel of the grip. It provides just enough grip similar to a gun stock foregrip. I flattened the diamonds a bit to make it less aggressive and now feels perfect. The stave that this bow came from was a fairly young stave with some slight crown which felt would be a good candidate for sinew. Overall length of the bow is 64”. It draws 49.40lbs at 28”. It’s my fastest bow to date. As I expected it to be with the sinew and horn. It has approx 7.5” of reflex after shooting in. Immediately after shooting a bit it has 6” reflex and creeps back to 7.5” Shooting 500grain hunting arrows I was getting 186fps. I shot my 400 grain arrows and got consistent speeds of 202-203fps. Very smooth shooter. I’ll post some vids of me shooting this bow. Enjoy and thanks for following along.

You nocked that outta the park. That is one of the most beautiful bows I've ever seen posted here. Maybe you should have called it lightening with those Chrono results :)

Gotta agree with Gut... Badass!

Awesome! I love everything about it. You did those skins justice

Holy crud that is a bow! I have no idea what the other comments say, but that is one of the most unique, most beautifully done bows I’ve seen posted on this forum. A true masterpiece.

Wow guys! Thanks again. so nice To have Boyers like you guys appreciate another man’s work. I’ll be making more of these bows for sure. Very fun build.
I haven’t scribed my initials or bow name onto this bow yet… just a thought here. What do you guys think I should call it. I’m second guessing my choice on the name “thunderstorm”. Other ideas I’ve had so far,
“Thunderbolt”
“Thunderstruck” (for all the ac/dc fans)
“Lightning”. (Pasteve)
“Lightning stick”
“Thunder stick”
Any other suggestions? Let me know
Thanks for looking

That for sure is a hell of a bow and another hot seat for bow of the year!!! (-S (-S (-S
Your details like grip and tips are incredible and show true passion and great skills. I'd love to try these tips but dont think I could do it so precise, wow!
This bow is plenty fast and will easy outshoot most FG bows! You could make the next one even faster by adding more reflex and shorten a little - you are still far away from the limits of horn and sinew. This is the perfect target or hunting bow as is.
Xheers, hats off and congratulations.

Simk. Thanks for your kind words. I do plan to make more of these and been already planning for more speed out of these and getting closer to that line of still being a comfortable shooter and hunting bow. This one shot in so well before I did the details like the grip checkering and lightning tips and skins that I felt I needed to do something special and different with it. I’m happy with it but will be adding more reflex to the next ones. I’ll likley have to use a stringer like what bowed does due to more extreme reflex on the next ones but that fine. My goal for this bow was 50lbs which is good hunting weight for me. Not sure I’ll use it for hunting yet or not. I’ve got another few bows in the works that may be my hunting bow. The tips were interesting to do. I’ll have to thank my dentist if all people for these and the tight fitting tips as I used same technique a dentist uses to get your fillings to sit right mating up perfectly with other tooth when bitting down on the blue transfer paper between the two teeth. I used similar techniques to get the tips perfect fit. I used soft pencil marking on the bottom of the shaped horn and when I got close I would move back and forth transferring pencil marks on the on the high spots or wood that needs to be removed. For wood removal I used small files then moved to razor blades for final scrapes into the corners for perfect fit.
Thanks again for looking.

Thanks so much guys for the compliments. Very generous. Your right Mike I might better take my wife’s suggestion after all. She simplified her suggestion down to “BOLT” which I like actually. Thanks guys for the kinds words and help on this build and others too I’ve posted in the past. Good group here and lots of info sharing which I think sets this forum apart from others.
Cheers.

Backtowood, thankyou so much. Very kind.
After some deliberations I decided to name it “Bolt”. Seems fitting for this bow.
-
I like sturgeon skins so much that usually that's the first thing i focus on when they are on a bow.
Not your case.
There are so many great details in your bow that I (almost) ignored the skins.
I confirm. Badass !!!

Thanks GlisGlis. Mush appreciated.
