Well finely got some pictures of the Twins yesterday finished, didn't like the tiller on the top limb of either but they both had a hump and natural reflex ,of course in the same place that I just
couldn't get out,it left a little flat spot in the limb, its bending there just looks flat to me.I
decided to settle with what I had.Thats what you get when you work with snaky wood. They
both shoot great so I am pleased.They are both 63 n-n 1st is 53@26 and the 2nd is 52@26.
Both have about 3/4 backset after first un strung and 1 1/2 after rest. Here are some pictures
Twin 1 first and then twin 2.Hope you enjoy. :)The first pictures are laied out and cut out when I started.

Really nice Pappy. Your profiles are always so good looking. I am saving one to work on next year at the Classic. Think I will rely on your expertise with this one. Will have some snake skins for it. Limbs are mirror images of each other. I have gotten it near floor tillering and will stop here. Got four others to work on plus a bazillion arrows to straighten and finish.

Man I love that one,how are you feeling,I hope good. The snaky ones are a little tricky to tiller
but I am confident you can handle it,I have seen your work. :) :)

The sisters look great...hope they don't each get jealous when you're hunting with the other! ;)
-
Dang Pappy, those have to be the prettiest twins I've ever seen, They have all the right curves in all the right places.
I'm surprised yer wife isn't jealous, you spending all yer time with them beauties ;) ;D
Marie send him another hat because dem are winners.
-
That's a great looking pair of bows Pappy. Man you sure turn out a lot of fine work!

Very nice Pappy.
Have only tried one stave that was snakey and it did give me trouble. Was kind of nice to go back a straight piece but snakey ones sure look neat when they turn out!!
The guava I got from Manny is a little snakey but I'm studying that one for a while!!
-
Didn't recognize you in the pics without your bib overalls!lol! That is a fantastic pair of bows. True show of craftmanship and skill!
-
Those are amazing bows Pappy!
When is the next TN Classic?
-
Ya Tracy,I had just got back from the doctor,You normally don't see me like that. Thanks for
the for the complements I appreshate it.Dana,Joanie don't get jealous anymore been married to
long I guess. :)Greg I though about that and decided I would take um both. ;D but then
I forgot about Big sister.I need a bigger stand. ???
Pappy

Thanks for asking. I am much better than yesterday and not as good as tomorrow. loosing a lot of weight. ;D Love Greg's statement--Jealous of each other. :-[

Awesome bows as usual Pappy, you are the man!!tradrick
-
Very nicely laid out, crafted, tillered and finished. A pair of fine bows. Congrats, well done.
-
I don't think you know how to work a piece of straight wood. ;D You sure do know how to make a pretty snake bow though. Justin
-
Amazing snakey bows, all of them. I've got to ask, how do you guys get them to follow the grain so well? I've never been able to split any wood like that (yew, ash or elm). Do you reduce the depth of the stave to bow-size before splitting? Simon.
-
Pappy, You's my hero! ;D Those are some fantastic bows!!!
-
Those are great Pappy! Hopefully I'll find some sage like that someday. ;)....Brian
-
Simon, That is the character of that particular piece of osage. Good snaky osage is as rare as hens teeth. Most snaky or non-straight staves will follow the grain when split. Pat
-
hey pappy! - i allways try to build my bows, arrows and quivers so well, that i have a hard time giving them away; if i had made these two bows, i do not believe i could master that challenge! these are exquisite, outstandig, unbloodybelivable! whatever superlative is no exaggeration in my eyes! - saved all the pictures in a file with your name on it (i keep secret records of some of you guys!)
too bad you cannot win BOM twice in one month...
frank
ps: and hey, dick b. - challenging blank you got there...!
-
Awesome bows, Pappy. I really like them. SimonUK, you have to follow the vertical grain on any wood but particularly osage and black locust. When split that will happen automatically but when bandsawn, you have look closely and finnd it. Jawge
-
Beautiful snake bows Pappy. ;) The skins and finish are great also...but I'm not surprised. ;D Pat
-
I've tried splitting wood starting in the middle of the stave or log, but one of two things happens:
1) the split doesn't follow the grain very well
2) the split 'spirals' and leaves me with no wood to play with at one end
Maybe the wood wasn't green enough.
-
Pappy it is awesome to see how those turned out. Rember seeing them on the bench at Cloverdale, all naked and yellow and just cut out. You really did that crooked piece of osage proud. Simply Awesome.
-
Wow Pappy, that's twice as cool as just having one snakey bow..Kinda like dating twins! ;D ;) Beautiful work as usual.

Kinda like dating twins!
Hey Rich S., now that is funny. ;D Medicinewheel, yes it is a most interesting start. ::) I have a lot of reflex in the stave to start. That is why I will save it for Pappy's rendezvous next year. He has a lot of knowledge up his sleeve. ??? With all those guys advising me over there I think I can finish it. I will bring some snake skins with me. We will call it the "Tenn. Classic twister". Pappy, you the man. :)
-
keep it up man. nice bows there
-
Thanks everyone, glad yall liked them. :)

Those beauties are bow of the year material, for sure. I'm glad that stave fell into your hands, Pappy. Not many bowyers could have pulled that off.
(I was going to say something about doing those curvy twins at the same time at your age, but I decided that might be inappropriate.)
-
A great pair of bows. We can learn a lot of you, Pappy! ;)
-
You are probably right Stickhead, never dated twins but I can only imagine. ;D ;DThanks
AndrewS, I appreshate the kind comments. :)

stickhead!! - that FOR SURE would have been inappropriate!!! ...well, most really funny stuff is inappropriate most of the time, i guess...
frank

Dana that would be cool to trip on down to Pappy's. Road trip!!!!! Maybe we could even look for some of them snakes on the way down. We'll have to take a truck so we can also pick up some road kill. :D :D. Can't come empty handed, have to have something for them all to eat from us. ;D ;D Maybe we could bring down some "live" burbots, let em see what our fishes look like. lmrao!!! May be alotta fun. I've also wanted to send some of our iron wood and wild black cherry down there to see what they could make out of it.
-
eelpout, pasties, and lutefisk and fer desert some Mackinaw Island fudge yummy ;D makete I have every
intention of going to the next one if god or the wife don't interfer. Of course we would have to hide the fudge from Marie and Sarah ;D
I talked with my son he's in Georgia and he would like to make it over if he can get the time off.
We will have to hook up here one of these weekends heck its only about a 40 min drive,
-
