I have used at least a hundred AO sanding belts over the years on my 6X48 belt sander, 36 grit didn't stay sharp long. A while back I got off my wallet and ordered 5 zirconia belts for about $50, 4 times what AO belts cost. Months later I am still on my first zirconia belt, sharp and still cuts like crazy. My belts are German made.
Just a heads up.

That's good to know. Thanks.

On sanding paper and belts I always buy the best I can get. This is non waste money!
I very very good snading tool is mirka net grit. Usable for years!
-
Those are better than Aluminum Oxide..?

I agree, the best way to save money on belts is to order the best belts, same with the paper sheets. The most expensive are far more cost efficient.

I googled Blue Zirconia and they are recommended for grinding metal, are we talking wood or metal grinding?

Those zirconium blue german ones are great. Use em both directions and the grit breaks off into sharper shards. Its all about the glue on fabric for the bands.
Last easily 5x longer.

Wood, I use a 36 grit belt for profiling my selfbows after they come off the bandsaw. You do have to be careful or the rapid cutting action will get you in trouble in a hurry.
The ones I ordered were Starcke Blue Zirconia Belts.

Look up McMasters and Carr you can order them online, quite a few places carry them.

FWIW... I 100% agree. Even if it would cost me twice as much, it's worth it.

Lee valley has them. Sometimes lee valley does free delivery too.

eBay is covered up with them, the chinese ones are really cheap but I don't know about the quality.
