Howdy Folks its been quite some time since I have posted anything on bows...don't mean that I still dont make them...so got inspired to make a bow for my daughter which is 12 and recently started an archery class. Long story short the instructor said that if I wanted to make her one she would be allowed to use it. This one of the remainding hard maple staves I have left from a couple years ago I stole a veneer log from my cousins log lot and split it by hand into staves. I love this wood it was a challenge and hope to obtain more in the future. Ok for the bow I made a simple flat bow at 57" and 2" thick. its about 1.5" at fades and tapers slightly down to just under 1/2". I steamed the tips about 4 inches in and bent them by hand resteaming until I got it symetrical. After hours of sanding and scraping I was able to get her floor tillered. Finally my daughter picked out the decoration of black enamel paint and snakeskin fabric. Also to mention it is backed with one giant rawhide dog bone and I am a firm believer. I made a HHB bow backed with it and put it to a test. I nearly bent it in half before it exploded. Ok where was I....oh yeah so final stats 57" 35lb @26"... still slightly heavy for her but they supply the arrows and they are short so it will do. My final thought on this bow is to perhaps add one of those arrow rests that stick on so she can shoot it easier and not off her hand. Thank u all!!!

Thanks PeteC, Medicinewheel, Hey Ken75 how u doin?..thanks Shoeman, Beatlebailey1977, Lombard and BryanIrwin for your response and comments. I have a question if u dont mind giving me ur opinions??? I purchased a black handle wrap and waiting for it to get here but, I like the bow simple but as far as for my daughter maybe some people with more experience with kids would it be better to put the wrap on? Thanx again for all the nice comments. Ken give me a call...

That's a nice looking bow! Can I ask what you used to glue the fabric onto the back?
-
congrats on the sweet bow and the daughter followin' in your footsteps!
-
Thanks everyone for the comments! I also have a son who occassionaly makes or trys to make bows arrows etc... I love my kids and if I can teach them something I will how many kids can say my Dad makes his own bow and arrows??? I used TBIII to glue it all down. Simple, cheap, and effective, also if u are worried about moisture in the past I have used lacquer, and I have high end varnish for musical instruments...I wish I had a better camera other than a cell phone sometimes. Hey as long as I share what I have thats all that matters I guess! Thanks again!

She is Jonathan but can u say spoled with a piece of wood and a string...its hard to get my kids off of the computer and doing physical activities. It makes me happy when they get interested in some of old Dads hobbies!
