After all that photobucket desaster:
Well, this is the test for coming back to the community ...
I have tried a few things aand it didn't work how I want to. I hope this is way to come along .....
The bow:
I have made in the last time same short, wide limbed osage bows and I must say I like them a lot.
It was a nice and clean stave, thick enough to get also a belly split here is the back split.
Some adjustments were necessary also some reflex was induced.
Fade is 6 from handle, front profile like a long leaf.
Tip overlays are from thin buffalo horn.
Bendy handle, built up with leather on the belly.
I got a foot from an emu donated from a friend. I saved the bone (for a atlatl), the sinew (for backing), and the skin (for handles). It was a lot of work to get the skin from the toes (one mayor, two minor) as I wanted to leave the claws on. So, here in this case the handle is made only from the three toes, the mayor is on the belly and the two minor are o the back. The skin is very hard and tough, it is hard to cut through the little horn plates.

That is a very "Simon" bow right there. It's unique, quirky and perfectly executed. Thanks for sharing with us. It's too bad you're so far away. I'd love to see your bows in person someday.

Hi Simon,
What an awesome looking bow! I love the toes as well. Perfect tiller and nice shape. It must be a blazingly fast bow. Have you chronied it? I like bendy handle bows the best, its all I am currently interested in, so this is a great example of a perfect bendy handle bow. With zero set you must have floor tillered it for a long time before stringing it?
-
Dang, that is a beeutifull bow, simply beeeutiful. Maybe someday in far distant future, I'll be able to build a bow such as yours. a tip of the hat to you.
-
Again thanks for your nice compliments!

I haven't shot it through a chrony yet, but will do when i get my hands on one.
I do no floor tillerering. I spent much time to work as precisely as possible before bendind the stick for the first time.
I do the first bending horizontally (with a long string or a tiller string with leather shoes (in case I have no notch) hanging the string in the vise . This allows drawing the bow and watching vertically with no perpective angle and additional feeling the amount of bend with other hand on the bow 's belly

Thanks for the clarification and the tip, I will try that myself as well.
-
I've seen plenty of emus, but never like that!: great work!
-
If you have already answered this please forgive me.......what is that handle cover made of that you used? Very cool!!!

Just read the description:
