Title: Is this OK?

I cut this stave live (water oak) and this is just outside where the fade should be.  Have I run into an insurmountable problem and need to move to another (cleaner) stave? The core fell out of one of the knots while working it with my rasp.  I've never seen this before, need some advice as to how to proceed.

Is it on the belly?  If so it shouldn't be a problem unless it goes all the way through. You may eliminate it as the process continues. Generally, blemishes on the belly aren't as critical as ones on the back.

It is on the belly.  I'll work it some more but there's a spot on the back that may correspond with this.  I may just grab one of the spotless staves I have and get to work on it (bow is for my daughter's birthday) since I cut better wood after this.

Two observations

1. Good to see you have got a Shinto rasp.

2. Please put some footware on and keep safe!

What does the back look like?

I'll take some pictures of the back tomorrow.  I'm thinking I'm going to swap to something cleaner just so I know I can get it finished in time.

I have a knot in that same place an it is concave. It should be fine.
