the date is set, a name picked and all is a go!
and we are adding some primitive skills to the event
primitive camping only
there is electricity and drinking quality water available
but no place for large rvs-sorry
smaller campers on the back of pickups would be fine
this is a child friendly event
and there will be no guns allowed
(if you carry while traveling that is fine but please DO NOT remove from your vehicle while on the farm)
there will be some osage staves available for sale or bring your own of course
might have a few hickory too
if you would like to come and bring staves for sale, that would be good
or any other primitive goods or raw materials
there will likely be a nominal fee of $5 or 10 to cover some of the property owners costs of getting everything ready.
gas for mower/brushhog and the chainsaw for cutting firewood,
water and electric usage etc.
if you are in the area and would like to spend a day helping out beforehand, the event will be free.
contact me directly if you would like to get involved.
we have numerous projects going on.
esp the barn which would be great to have available if the weather is nasty
(tho it is starting to feel like it will never rain here again....)
also, if you would like to demonstrate any primitive skills please contact me.
there is a nice above ground pool.
depending on the weather and how much other work we get done, it will likely be filled and ready to use.
there is one large firepit which includes a cool pizza oven. we are gonna try and get another built over by the barn
no food available, you will be responsible for your own eats.
typically at campouts on this farm, there are numerous shared meals around the fire.
that is up to each of you if you chose to cook food to share.
town is only about 10 mins away if you need to restock supplies.
often there are communal runs to town for staples like beer and ice.
more details as time gets nearer.
please feel free to contact me if you have questions
welcome to the prairie rattler!

wanted to add-none of the folks involved are anti gun. i have a ccp and tho i dont "advocate" for guns i believe strongly in our right to bear arms.
the farm is small. there are lots of cattle(and people) on adjacent farms and there will likely be some beer drinking going on.
just not the environment for gun play, thats all
-
two months away.
we have some great things lined up
hope to meet some pa folks there!

Are you gonna make this annual? I may set my sites on next year?

Really looking forward to this. So far I have not been able to access the FaceBook page for the event, but I definitely interested in attending, as soon as I can find the location, costs, and what I should bring.

lye soap making
primitive/earth based first aid
making and using natural earth pigments
felting wool and hat making from that felt
story telling round the fire each nite

along with vendors of primitive and archery goods and supplies
we will have an archery range set up and a place to throw knives
here are some pix from the first year we held this event that primarily focused on bowmaking and shooting

Looked at the pics and sure wish I could make it!

well, we were gifted with an amazing weekend weather wise. not until late saturday nite did it blow a bit and some rain early sunday morning. then the sun came out in time to dry everything before packing up.
this is my fav pic of the weekend, Dave and his son Charlie working on a bow together. they will have it shooting by this coming wed nite.
Shelly got her bow ready to string too but somehow i never got pix of it.
