making a bow for a friend, barely bending now,, slightly narrow handle,, no heat treat,, just making as is,,
not trying to make it speedy,, just durable,, and accurate,,
-
Now, that's a bow! A big "KISS". Keep it simple, sir. :OK
-
thanks Pat,,good luck on your bow as well,, :)
-
Thumbs up emoji
-
i got it shaped and bending a bit more will send pics tomorrow, its a nice piece of wood,, very rich color,, :)
-
Looking forward to seeing your bow bend, Brad.
I have a short mulberry stave I plan to work on this winter, Brad. I'll post pics when I do. :OK
-
Unless it is for really high draw weight, I would narrow the outer 1/3 almost to half of current width or at least make it pyramidal there, without reducing the thickness. Just a thought.
-
yes reducing as we speak,, (-S its not even bending enough to string,,
-
got it bending could almost string it today..the handle has some natural offset, I hope to use to my advantage,, :)
-
...broad at the shoulders and narrow at the hips...everyone knew not to give no lip...to Big John! :OK
Looks good, Brad. I love the shape. 8)
-
thanks its coming along, beautiful wood, but I always say that,, :)
-
nice layout and design! this one will be a quick shooter even if you didn't intend to :)
-
Looking good Brad, love that design. ;)

thanks Guys,, appreciate the support,, I am in the process of making the tips a bit more narrow,, and getting it to bend evenly,, easier said than done ,, but so far ok,, should get it strung next couple of days and will send pics,,the handle is narrow and a bit deep,, will send side profile too,, thanks for looking,, I am visualizing the new owner shooting a big hog,,,as I scrape rasp,,, (-S
-
How long is that bow Brad? What's the draw and weight you are going for?
-
At that stage, I would stop using a rasp, and start using just scrapers or sanding blocks with long and even strokes.
-
its 64 inches,, Im just playing it by ear,,,but something in the 50# range,,not sure bout draw length yet
-
sound advice scp,, Pat and I were discussing how sometimes the fastest way to get where we want to go is slowly,,,,
got the bow strung,, got quite a bit of wood to take off,, its 40# at 12 inches,,,,should be able to get it bending even before missing 50#
-
more pics,, strung low brace
-
low brace, bow pulls 50#@17 now,, and looks good on tiller tree pulled to 17,, so far so good,,the top limb looks little hingy at tip,,, but its deflexed there,, so I think im ok,,
-
Looking great.
