Title: Pics of my bows years ago
Post by: wvfknapper on December 16, 2007, 08:43:53 pm
Here is a few pictures of some bows I made about 7- 8 or more years ago when I was  making bows,, I played with the hobby/addiction for a little over a year until my now X wife fussed and whined (for better words) so much that I got out of the hobby, I piled up several thousand $$ worth of staves , osage, hickory, sassafras, hornbeam, ash, white oak, and made ashes out of them, but I kept all my tools and my mind   ::) stored away until now, I now have a new wife and she likes my hobbies so I am getting back into making bows again.

The pic of the unstrung bow is the same one with the grey handle, both were made from hickory and the light color handled bow was sinew backed pulling about 68 pounds @ 27 and the other was in the 60 pound range and both were backed with one piece blacksnake skins...........Sorry about the low quality pics, they were scanned pictures.

Just thought I would share some of my past with you guys, since you all share so much on this site (A beginner Bowyer's Paradise)..........I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!!

Congratulations on getting back, a man needs a hobby/ time to himself and a good woman supportive of your interests makes things that much better.  :)

I'm with everyone else - that's a shame about the staves. Sometimes I get to feeling like that - if it gets that bad I'll let ya'll know and you can come load em up. Don't hold your breath...

Thanks for all the kind words,, Old Bow, those were bad times and yes a new wife always helps  ;) No Pappy, no brats just a little fuel to get them going, seasoned wood burns clean tho.......It was some prime wood too as I worked for a logging company at the time and had my pic of prime 24" + trees, probably over 100 staves, sold my fletching jigs, spine tester, arrow crester, bow scale all kinds of leather working tools, My bows, all my bow books,  the Office Trailer I had for a shop, wish I had it all back but thats life , just start over and hope this time around life will be better..............Cowboy call me if it gets too bad, I learned from the last one to not do the same  ;D as sometimes it don't matter what you do, it ain't never enough.

Ashes :'( amazing what a man will do for a pretty face :o
And sometimes for ugly ones too.
I'm lucky, my wife doesn't care one way or another what I make, as long as I don't do it in the house.
