Title: BPCM-2 - Bamboo-Purpleheart-Cumaru-Massaranduba II LB
Post by: Lehtis on December 09, 2015, 02:11:05 pm
After finishing the problematic bow described beyond this link ( http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,54674.0.html ),  I decided to make another from same materials but more carefully now. So, I glued with Unibond-800 ca. 4-5 mm thick bamboo back on 4 mm purpleheart, then 3 mm cumaru and thick enough massaranduba as belly. The package was squeezed together with rubber band and bended ca. 3" reflex.

The next step, naturally, was to remove excess wood to dig out the bow. The stave was originally 71" long but, as it often happens, I succeeded to to scrape a bit too much and the bow was going to be too light, below 70 pounds. Then I cut one inch away from both limbs and continued finishing the bow. I made the nocks and arrow pass plate from domesticated water buffalo horn and coated the bow with 7 layers of Tru-Oil. The handle is made from black leather and the string is from B-50 Dacron, 16 strands. After test shooting the scale showed 79 lbs @ 28" and the length is 68,4" ntn.

Now I´m pretty happy with this ELB stylish bow!

P.S. The tiller looks a bit abnormal in the pic I´m drawing but that´s because of the bow is canted making the lower limb look like bending too much.

Very nice. I like your tillering set up. Since I'm in the middle of changing my shop, I might copy it...if you don't mind.

Nice effort. Massa is a really good belly wood for a ELB's. 79lbs is pretty hefty, you look to be drawing it pretty easily too.
