Title: Just an idle question

I know that to harden carbon steel you have to heat it to non magnetic and then quench it. What happens if you heat a normalised piece of carbon steel to straw coloured and then quench it. Anything at all or would it still be as soft as ever?

It won't harden, 1095 needs to be heated to over 1400 degrees then oil quenched before it will harden so a straw color is not hot enough. After hardening you can temper it to a straw color if you know what your doing.
