Post by: markinengland on July 15, 2008, 07:11:36 pm
I feel rich. My shipment of 200 tonkin bamboo arrow shafts arrived from China today!
I must count them and gloat over them tomorrow!
I think I have some weight and spine checking ahead of me.

Hi Mark,
I would like a pm as well if you don't mind. Have any idea what the cost is in US currency?

Thanks!
Greg

This is my first sample batch and I need to check them to see if they are within agreed tolerances, check weight, check diameter, check straightness, check spine etc before placing a bigger order. I am looking at a deal that will see me as the sole dealer for these shafts and the worldwide dealer for longer than 32 inch shafts for japanese ya arrows etc. My aim will be to offer good quality durable shafts but it is early days with this supplier who knows bamboo but not arrows.
I am away on holiday next week so this will take a while longer. It would really help me to get the supplier up to speed if you could tell me what you would want, what you feel would be a fair price in the US or where ever you are etc. My next order will be for around 800 shafts 32 inch shafts so that will be the main initial order. Aiming to be ordering in thousand soon! (the wife will be pleased with a thousand shafts on the kitchen table!)
when I get back from Cornwall (look it up it's gorgeous) I'll put a dozen or two on ebay to see how they go.
Sorry to tept you but they will be for sale shortly via ebay and hopefully dealerships near

David,
Yes I can give you a major discount if you come and collect in person!
There is a US bowyer who is looking at acting as a US importer supplying some major name distributors. I don't know the details of this importer yet though. I'm a bit cross really because I did a lot of work to get the basic spec and production methods of the shafts agreed only to find that my first sample batch was sent to the US. Still I have mine now and can make some progress.
I am not sure I will be able to compete on price due to the extra postage but I hope to be able to ensure I only send out quality product even if the price is high.
I hope to be advertising in PA very shortly and we'll see where it goes from there.
If this post isn't removed I'll post again in a week or so and tell you what the figures are on these shafts. They seem quite light and the better ones look very promising. With it being increasingly difficult to get good durable POC shafts these may be the "wooden" shaft of the future.
