Title: Oak Board w/ Hickory Back?
Post by: PeteDavis on December 26, 2010, 03:21:51 pm

Is this a good combo assuming I find a good 3/4" oak board and a strip? URAC glue is what I use.

I'd like to make a cannon. What are some good width dimensions to start out?

PD

are you using white oak or red oak. If you're using red oak it will be pretty hard to get a warbow out of it. max 70 lbs maybe

White oak it will be then. I have a friend that runs a millwork shop-I can pick through his boards. PD

White oak can make a fine heavy longbow especially with a hickory backing

I'm actually going to attempt a red oak self bow around 80lbs.  length will be 80 inches to reduce set.  Belly slightly rounded.
