I was hunting a thick riverbottom where I had found some good scrapes and rubs yesterday. Unfortunately, the only good trees were wrong for the prevailing winds, so I built an elaborate blind earlier in the week. I did see a few deer, and one little 8 point, but they were all staying down about 50 yards away. Around 10AM or so, this fella came by at about 20 yards. I let him pass me and shot him at an angle. He was moving and I hit him in the right hindquarter. Luckily, I hit the femoral artery. He still went nearly a 100 yards, and was a little hard to find those last 30 yards or so...
As I was making a few circles to find him, I came across a nice size den. He may have been trying to make it back there, since he was only 30 yards or so from it. You can bet Mr. Slagle will be back in there come December to see if he can't make a few sets and stretch a couple of his buddies this winter....

Congratulations Chad on a fint primitive harvest. I just found an area in N.M. thick with coyotes and am anxious to get away for a weekend and try calling them to my bow. Keep up the good work Kenneth

Congrats Chad! I know from experience that you can't get away with much movement with those critters, nice trophy! ;)

Must've been a hard shot . . . I hear those things are wiley (terrible joke, I apologise ;D ). Did you eat it?
-
Coyote is pretty stringy, so I generally don't eat them. I do trap a bit and enjoy opossum, raccoon, beaver, and others.... Coyotes are aa real problem here in my area of Oklahoma, so to help my deer brothers, I do what I can when I can... ;)

Nice bonus! Sounds like you got a new place to lay some steel, good luck.
