Title: Elm hunting bow 65# 30"
Post by: druid on October 04, 2012, 12:03:28 pm
After very ugly, hot and bad summer with very little productivity here we go again.
After long, long waiting I made this bow for a friend. It is elm, 67" ntn with some character. This bow was heat treated and took very low set, about 1/2" after about 150 arrows at full draw and few hours on the brace. Not bad for narrow and thick stick. It looks like a pritty straight stave but if we look closer we will se a lot of small characters, bumps and waves. Because that I made second, dark pic, to see that details. I like colour of the heartwood very much. Because small reflex spot just above the handle it was little complicated to adjust the tiller (at least for me) but final result is good.
According to old rule of my country, when customer waits too long for its order then it is fair to get it free.

About that rule in your country i relation to old orders becoming free, ...could I place an order for ANY ONE of your bows and back date it a couple years?   ;)

I am truely impressed with your work.  Your bows are always so organic and artful, almost minimalist in adornment and finishes, yet they capture the eye immediately!  Thanx for sharing them here...

It is elm, 67" ntn with some character.

"Some" character?  ;D  That's quite a lot of character, it must have been a lot of work to tiller. I can only hope to attain that level of skill someday. It looks amazing!

No matter how long I had to wait for one of your bows it would be worth whatever price I had to pay.  Every one of them has been a thing of beauty to behold.  Wonderful work, Druid, as usual.

Thank you all, my friends. I am trying to do my best with these bows.
Turtle, there are a lot of straight staves in my country but I do not like them very much.  :D My stash is full of character staves and maybe 2% are straight staves. They are boring to me. Soon I hope to present "Snake edition", few snaky bows of different strength and design.  ;)

I propose a challenge! I call it the Druid Challenge! Find the most Gawd awe-full stick that you can, and send it to Duid to see what he does with it. ( And I can come up with some terrible staves, just ask Ken Villars for those that know him ).  The person who sends Druid a stick he cant work into a bow wins his stick back! Bows sold to charity... lol good times right? And we could at least make sure out local Druid is entertained, and not bored of all those pesky straight sticks!
