Does anyone have a short and wide billet of osage suitable for making an axe handle? Been seeing Pappy hafting axes with this and I gotta copy him. Plus, I busted the crappy ash handle off a friend's axe.

Tell me what dimensions you need and one will be on the way.

Short handle, about 28" long, 4 inches wide by 2 inches deep. Should be enough meat to pull an axe handle out, I think.
Thanks! I think I might have something nice to send back in a box to you!

PM me your address, I seem to have lost it from our last exchange. The chunk of wood I found is huge and weighs a ton. I am headed to the shop to trim it up this morning. It has a pin or two showing on the belly that should be minor up in the sound wood. This is very tight ring osage so any runout shouldn't be a problem .

Do you think this would work? I had to cut around checks and knots. A full sized axe handle fits on it with room to spare.
-
I think that should do!

I put it in the mail today, you don't owe me anything, my good deed of the week.
I wish I could have made it a little wider so you could have more sweep in the handle but getting rid of the sapwood and checks on a pie shaped piece of wood only left what you see.

I will work with what is left. Thanks, Eric!

Hope you get your axe ready for Turkey Camp! Hope to be able to come up early again! I'd like to score one this year! Dibs on the wings! :G :G >:D! Btw, I should have my new "hawk" unpacked by then! Damned lifting restrictions are a pita!
