Title: Potential hunting points
Post by: Wolfmanjack on March 08, 2020, 10:07:26 pm
My knapping skills are improving and these are my most recent points.  These are all made from heat treated Mississippi gravel(citronelle chert).  A few too big for arrow points.

I like them all but I really like that 9th one down from the top.

Very nice!  I'm with JEB, ALL NEAT!  #9 is the top choice.  Like GlisGlis said!

Thanks for the kind words.  What makes #9 the one?  If we were gonna base that number one arrow on design alone would you still pick #9?  Is the simple triangle the most efficient point design for greates penetration?  Is a thin tip detrimental to penetration seeing as it is likely to shear off.  So many questions about stone point effects on game and so little info available on the web.  I think I have read or watched everything out there on the web.

Very nice wolfman. Always feels good to be improving.

I’m thinking they all look like pretty good hunting points. I think I’m agreeing with you in that I probably wouldn’t pick number 9 for a hunting arrow first choice. I like the triangle. Long, sharp and narrow.
I’m kinda looking at number 8 ;)

Hope you get a chance to share some hunting results from all of them.

PS don’t get me wrong. I like number 9 to. I’m sure it’s a good hunting point to. Sure is nice point. Need to try them all out and let us know.

They all look great! Nicely done. Sharpen them up before hunting and they will kill!

Recently got back into flintknapping, and I've got the bug. Just ordered 25lbs of texas flint, ha!

I didn't pick #9 to hunt with. I picked it to put in a frame and then on my wall, lol. I would use the ishi style point for hunting.
