I have a longbow that I want to make into a recurve right now. Just wondering in general what the increase in draw weight will be when adding recurves. Also, you can get away with a shorter bow if you're putting recurves in, right?

If it causes your bow to take more set you may not gain anything. If it handles it pretty well 7# or so would not surprise me.

If you want a recurve, design and make a recurve. Save your longbow as it is and enjoy it for what it is.
Like Badger said...if it causes you bow to take set you may not gain anything. Adding recurves adds more stress. Designing a recurve to handle those stresses will be more productive and a good learning experience.
