It is a little different this year because of Mother's day on the first full weekend of May, it fall this way ever 7 years and we aren't going to have it on Mother's day so we back up a week. Hope to see yall there. ;) :) :)
Pappy

That's good idea! Maybe I'll let Rylie tag along.

Can we make a rule that Matt Wirwicki isn't allowed to enter any raffles at the next classic? ;D
No doubt! >:D >:D ::)

-
Miss you guys! I hope to make it down this year!
-
You'd better make it Ryan. No excuses! >:(
-
Oh trust me Pat I've got plenty of those. :P ;) Life is so much different from the last time I saw you guys.
-
Man it is good to see you back on Ryan, I keep updated from time to time on you from Bob, love to have you down, we miss you around here. :) :) You made my day. ;D
Pappy
-
I will make it if possible. I will be at trad world. So I get my fill of that interstate between Austin and Nashville. Semi retired at that point so looking better all the time. Arvin
-
I'll be there for sure.
You going to bring some staves?
Arvin
-
Not sure about Ryan with staves , Arvin but I will bet there will be plenty of staves to be had, at least if you get there early. Sometimes they get picked over and gone pretty quick. ??? :D I plan this year to take a few hours the first part of the week to shop myself, last year I didn't take the time and by Friday or Saturday when I did take a minute there was nothing left. :o
I almost got shot for looking over Matt's pile that I thought was Clint's. ;)
Pappy
-
Have not been on here much just to stinking busy but keeping a spot clear on my calendar for some Pappy time
see ya there
-
I sure would like to go. It's not during finals week this year yay! Maybe my mom will buy me a plane ticket . . . .
-
Look forward to seeing you Guy as always and E hope it works out for you and your brothers. ;)
Pappy
-
Thanks Pappy. My brothers have no excuse, other than I just don't think it's their cup of tea. Which I cannot fathom, but to each his own.
-
I'll be there for my 2nd annual Tennessee Classic.
Last year was my first trip and while I was woefully under prepared and under funded for the awesomeness that took place I had a freaking AMAZING time meeting everyone, camping out for the better part of a week, eating good food, getting to know some awesome people, and MAKING MY FIRST BOW!
I'll be back this year with better camping gear, more folding money for ice and arrow heads and tools and possibly an Osage stave instead of Hickory and of course RAFFLE TICKET MONEY (which I guess is a lost cause since certain people were pretty damn lucky last year :) )
Actually Pappy I had a question. How does one go about becoming a member of the club itself? I live in Hermitage, TN (right across the street from Old Hickory Lake Bowman Club) and Twin Oaks is only about an hour from my house, so I'd like to be able to come by more than once a year and get to know everyone better, or at least come to more shoots.
-
Just come down on Saturday's and hang out, see if you really like us and we will see if we really like you. ;) :) :) If all goes well /after you understand what we expect and still want to become a member then we have a vote/you pay your dues and that's it. It takes a lot of work to keep things going especially in the Spring and Summer and some just don't have the time or make the time and this isn't there main interest, We don't expect anyone to not have other hobby's and interest but we do expect TwinOaks to come first after God/Job and Family. :) We are always looking for good solid new members. ;) We do have a max membership of 25 but have lost a few in the last year or 2 and have some openings. Come any time and get to know the guys and we will go from there. I am there most every Friday evening afternoon and Saturday all day. :)
Pappy
-
Just checked my school schedule and it looks like the Classic falls on my week of spring break! Couldn't be more excited! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
It'll be good to see you there, Ryan!
-
That is great news Ryan, we may need a Doc. you never know. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Sweet Ryan!
be good to see ya
Glad you are gonna get some time to play!
-
I missed last year, but won't miss this year! Can't wait...hope to be there a little early. Lyle
-
I'm thinking of making this the family spring camping trip this year. I have a couple questions though. Is this event a good one to bring the whole family to? My girls are 8 and 10 and both shoot to some degree and are at home in the woods. It would be perfect if there were others around that age. We usually base our trips around fishing. I don't suppose there's someplace close by to toss a few lines? One last inquiry, are there ample trees in the camping area? I'm a hammock guy. I don't even need level ground just a couple trees 7'-10' apart. The wife and kids will need a flat spot for their tent though.
Also if I do end up making the trip, do you guys need any signs, banners, decals, or vanity license plates made up? I'd be more than happy to do so. Even if I don't come down I could mail whatever you might need.
-
We're talking about it already at our house and making plans. Deciding on attending or not is a no-brainer here, this is a can't miss annual event for us now. :)
-
Yes it is a good place for kids, we usually have a bunch and they all seem to find each other. Plenty of trees for you and I am sure we can find a flat spot for the tent. Not sure on fishing, the Cumberland river is close but nothing right at the farm. Ky and lake Barkley is about 70 miles west. Hope you can make it, I feel sure you will enjoy. Greg looking forward to seeing yall again. Working on a wood pile already. ;)

I went last year and it was my first year so I didn't know what to expect. EVERYONE there is incredibly nice and helpful. There was plenty of room for camping (provided you don't show up Thursday night : ) ) and there were a lot of kids around.
My camp neighbor had a hammock set up and I plan to bring mine this year in addition to my tent (just in case the rain gets bad or we're still in some winter weather (last year the temps dropped to the ~30 range at night)
There's not much fishing close by, and once everyone gets settled in (usually about Wednesday) getting cars in and out can be a bit of a tight squeeze but honestly if you're entering the selfbow challenge you're not going to have time to fish with all of the bow making to be done! Also there's no shortage of stuff to do from the flint knapping to the bow and arrow crafting to just checking out the vendor tents and meeting your neighbors for the week.
-
Glad you enjoyed it, yes there is always something to do or watch.
Pappy
-
If you don't enjoy yourself at the classic, its your own fault. ;)
-
If you don't enjoy yourself at the classic, its your own fault. ;)
Amen to that Pat
two of my brothers came last year and they are not even into archery but both are talking about going this year!
-
It was great meeting some of you family last year Guy, I will say they were much better looking than you, what happened. ??? ;) :) I am really looking forward to it again, got even more talking about coming in early so the early part of the week should be a hoot, I love that time before I get to wrapped up with stuff to do. :)
Pappy
-
Pappy, I would like to reserve a time early in the week to shoot a round of targets with you. We never did get the chance last year.
-
You got it Clint, when do you plan on rolling in ?
Pappy
-
Hopefully I'll be there on Monday again.
-
I think Bob McMinn and I will be there on Tuesday...at least that's our plan now.
If y'all have room for one more I'd like to join you guys. I don't think I've shot with either of you
-
Your on Pat, get you arrows straight. :) Tuesday , that's good it will give me and Clink a day to get practiced up for you, ;) well at least I need the practice. ???
Pappy
-
Pappy, I'll spend more time hunting for arrows than shooting. I have hardly flung an arrow all year. ???
-
I'm the same way, but it's funny how much better you get when you're surrounded by people who can shoot traditional bows accurately.
I spend most of the time on the range here in Hermitage at 10-15 yards and usually get shaky past 20 but for some reason getting out in the woods with those 3D targets and a group of people who know what they're doing I don't tense up as much and make better shots.
Or at least that's what I tell myself : )
-
Im planning on Monday or Tuesday myself..dependent on when my son gets off 👍... Brian
-
And that Thursday is my Birthday, lol... Always good to be at Twin Oaks on the B-Day 😃
-
Don't know if I will make it this year. Might be a short trip if I do.
Patrick
-
I can't wait. I made my first trek three years ago, made my first bow then and was hooked, and it has become an annual trip for me. Pappy, you make this a great time for everyone, and it is surely appreciated!
-
Thanks Loope, but believe me it is very much a joint effort. ;) You get this many great people together it can't help but be a good time. ;) Patrick you would be greatly missed, hope it works out for you. :(
Pappy
-
Thanks Pappy, that means a lot. I was sick while I was there last year and I hurt my shoulder. I ended up not even shooting the course except for a few targets. I still had a blast though. I hope I can make it this year. But it might be a short trip. I would probably have to find a place to bunk if I can go. Patrick
-
I am sure we can find you a place to lay your head Patrick. ;)
Pappy
-
Thanks Pappy! I'm trying to figure out how to make it to the classic right now. I may need to take you up on that bunk spot. Patrick
-
Your on Pat, get you arrows straight. :) Tuesday , that's good it will give me and Clink a day to get practiced up for you, ;) well at least I need the practice. ???
Pappy
Id like in on some of that action if it won't cramp your style. I'll be down the Saturday before. Make sure you have a list of chores ready, so I can earn my keep. ;)
-
You bet Greg, you know I will. I was hoping you were going to make it this year, haven't heard much from you and knew you had been busy. :)
Pappy
-
Yeah, been pretty busy. Took a different job at the plant and don't know which end is up. Need some quality Twin Oaks time to charge my batteries. :)
-
Greg, can you guys save the usual spot for us and Stringman to set up camp?
-
Sure thing Clint.
-
I'll be ready to help in the kitchen again this year. ;)
-
Thanks Pat, we can always use that. ;)
Pappy
-
I'll be ready to help in the kitchen again this year. ;)
I thought that you, me, and Matt made a pretty good kitchen team last year. That was a lot of food!
-
I love doing that kind of prep work.
-
Ya when it gets a little closer we need to figure out the Thursday nigh boil if we plan on doing it again. Seems to go over really good but as we all know ,a lot of trouble for a few, I sure couldn't handle it with out all you guys that pitch in to help and believe me it is very very much appreciated ,even if I forget to thank yall I hope you know that. ;) :)
Pappy
-
I'll bring something for the Thursday night boil. I wish Cracker would do the Friday fried night meal. Have you heard anything from Ronnie, Pappy?
-
Not lately, I really miss that guy. :( Maybe one day he will show back up, I know he had a lot going on the last couple of years.
Pappy
-
I'll coordinate the Thursday Boil again, if ya'll can put up with me again.
-
That's asking an awful lot, Matt! >:D
-
Ya I was thinking the same thing Pat. ;) ;D ;D Thanks, Matt. Hope you are going to have lots of blanks this year, getting a lot of request. I am not sure if we have any Hickory that will be ready so that will put the pressure if you want to call it that on you guys whit stuff to sell. ;) Talked to Gary Friday morning and he is supposed to be in on Monday this year, he just keeps getting earlier and earlier, afraid he will miss something I suppose. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Better stock up on Dr. Pepper, Pappy. ;D
-
Since the end of hunting season, I've been osage bow blank mode. Going to try to have at least a couple dozen.
-
11-year-old grandgirl has a bow started. Told her long ago that if she gets it completed by Classic time that I'd take her along this year. But she's not worked on it for couple months.
Yesterday I reminded her that it's just 2 months (exaggerated a bit) 'til Classic. Tick ... tock ... tick ... tock.
Today Rylie called, "Papa, may I come over tomorrow to work on my bow?"
Of course, she got an affirmative.
"Oh, Papa, can I also go with ya to your Thursday night weekly bow-building gathering too? I've got alot of catching up to do!"
I guess she REALLY wants to meet ya'll !! :o
-
And we really want to meet her Knoll, we love our kids and usually have a lot of them, Matt you shouldn't have any trouble moving them that's for sure. I feel really bad that we won't have any Hickory[ I am sure someone will] but just had lots of issues this year and didn't get it done. :-[ I am sure there will be plenty of wood to go around but it is just much easier, especially for beginners to have it in blank form, easier on the folks that help also. I will say I would rather have a plane stave [not laid out]than one that has been roughed out in a manner with no rhyme or reason, them are the tough ones to lay out and get going in the right direction and we always get a few of them. ???
Pappy
-
Any chance of you finding a spot for the ol Kenebago Pappy? I'm hoping to get there no later than thursday morning, but it will depend on the loads of course. Josh
-
Did you see the driveway work they've done, Josh? They are expecting the Kenebago! ;) You have reserved parking.
-
That's great news trucker! Bring your knappin tools, cause your gonna need em.
-
Bring your appetite too Josh. You know we'll have something to nibble on. Looking forward to seeing you again. You too PatB. Matter of fact, looking forward to
seeing everyone! I do enjoy my Twin Oaks time.
David
-
Make sure you leave some room in that truck to take home some trade goods ;) Glad you are making it this year.
-
Hey guys I really would like to be there but it aint happening this year this new crowd that owns my company is real tight and I have to stay right on top of things. Maybe it'll settle down in a year or two and I can make it back up. I have a trip through there coming up and maybe I can manipulate things so I can drop in or maybe spend a day during classic week.
Cracker
-
Man Cracker good to hear from you, Pat and I were just talking about you. Been using you branding iron a lot lately and think of you every time I do. Looking forward to seeing you again, you sure are missed. :) Josh you know you will have a spot, glad it is working out, love seeing all the folks looking when that big rig rolls off the hill. ;) :)
Pappy
-
Great to see your name with a post, Cracker! We've all been wondering about you. Hope all is well.
-
All is good at the moment. I mean to keep it that way. Hope everyone has a wonderful classic if I can pull enough strings I may get to come visit. Cracker
-
Ronnie sent you back a reply. Pappy, I'll be there early again this year. Can I request my usual spot? I'll have your cooking gear;-).
-
Gettin purty anxious....really lookin forward to gettin back... I lost somethin this year and im purty sure i can find it at Twin Oaks 👍... Brian
-
Man that would be great Cracker, Matt has been taking up your slack and doing a great job , but nothing like Cracker and the Boil [MORE SALT PLEASE] By the way Cracker I have raised the roof in the archery shop so you can get under with them 8 foot bows you build. ;) :) :) I never forget. ;) Of course Eddie ;) Brian looking forward to seeing you and I know it will help. :) Good friends and lot of Bull shooting always helps. :)
Pappy
-
Hope I get to see you at the Classic, Ronnie.
-
I'm super use right now with the new house I'm working on, but I'm still hoping to get there again with the kids. They won't me go alone.
-
You too Dave.
-
Thanks Pappy! It'll be good to see everybody again! Dave, my appetite is the only constant thing I have. If I can bring anything specific for the feast let me know, otherwise I'll just bring something that sounds good at the time I'm provisioning up. Clint, looking forward to some trading. I picked up a dead cholla last week so if they other one hasn't retted yet by then, I'll still have some you can use right away. Josh
-
You bet Josh, be good to hear that old jake brake coming off the hill. ;) :)
Pappy
-
This is beginning to come together, Miss Joanie and I worked on the vendor's list and looks like we are going to have a lot of good ones, got the T shirts picked out and ready to order /also going to have coffee cups and some pretty cool but different hats this year, We also got the plaques for the trophies ordered, lot of T's to cross and I's to dot but We are slowly checking them off. :) Just 2 months and closing fast. ??? ;) :) Man where does time go. :-\
Pappy
-
Dave .... hope you can get away from the house long enough to make the trek. Don't care much 'bout seeing you, but the kids are different matter! ::)
-
Pappy, can you tell Miss Joanie to put me down for a shirt and hat. Size XXL on the shirt. Thanks.
-
You got it Clint, Miss Joanie put you on her list Last evening, I told her Clint and she said you mean Osage Outlaw, O ya I like him a lot. Go figure. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
It's starting to look like the family and I are gonna make it. I'll be headed down on Tues or Wed. I may decide to travel at night to avoid traffic and the frequent rest stops children often require.
I read something above about a a Thursday night fry that may not happen? If I bring the yellow perch fillets, is there someplace to fry them? I could bring the turkey fryer, but that's just one more thing to pack. I should be able to wrangle up a few hundred. Someone else will have to provide the potatoes for fries though. ;)
-

Pappy
I guess I'm going to have to make something for her so I can stay on her good side.
-
Not necessary but it is always a good move to stay on her good side, :) I have found that out the hard way more than once over the years. Yipps ;) :)
Pappy
-
Dakota Kid: If you don't mind sharing some of that Yellow Perch, I (with a LOT of help) put on the Thursday night boil. It would go real good in the "seafood: pot. :)
-
I don't mind sharing, but I'm concerned it wouldn't hold up in a pot with other ingredients. It's one of the lightest flakiest fishes I'm aware of. It may fall to pieces. Beer battered/ breaded and deep fried is probably the best way to serve it IMO. Either way I'll bring as much as I can round up, which will be plenty. The more I go through now, the more my recently retired father will have to get the boat out this summer.
-
I am sure we will figure something to do with it DK. Yep need to keep your Dad busy. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
Kid, I'll help you with the fish fry if you'd like.
-
Cool, I never believed that old saying about too many cooks. I'm not one to turn away willing helpers. Any help just frees up one of my hands to hold a cold beverage. 8) I'll bring my turkey fryer and a couple gallons of oil. I should check into scoring some dry ice for the trip as well.
-
Seems every year it isn't going to happen then all of the sudden things start coming together, got the buttons in yesterday, they look cool, got the T shirts ordered and all the registration supplies, also got a good start on the trophies so it is starting to come together, good thing it won't be long now. I think 44 days. WOW. ???
Pappy
-
How come Bear ain't counting the days down? Ain't seen him lately. ???
-
How come Bear ain't counting the days down? Ain't seen him lately. ???
ya how come , with out him counting this one down I don't know how to count down till Marshall !
se y'all soon I guess
-
Pappy, I should be down early again, so it'll just be about 38 days for me! >:D. Can't wait. Going to Moontree this weekend. You'd think that would take the edge off, but really only makes it worse.
-
I'm getting excited already! Been trying to get some projects done in time, but I know I won't get em all done. If you would be so kind as to ask Miss Joanie to put me down for a cup, a hat and a t-shirt in XXFAT I would greatly appreciate it Pappy. Matt if you need any help with the boil, I'll be glad to pitch in. Josh
-
We should have plenty of hats and cups, she already has you down for a shirt Josh, you can count on that. :) Ya I will see Bear this weekend at our shoot and I hope little Steve is with him, :-\ I will ask him about the count down PatB. I just thought of it when I opened our web site, Michael has put a count down on it with Days/hours/minutes and seconds. ;) :) Greg have fun as I know yall will, see ya in a little over a month. Guy have fun this weekend at the event.
Pappy
-
26 days for me lol
-
Thanks Bear. Didn't want to miss it! ;D
-
Thanks Josh. I'll let you know. I'll start the thread on ingredient donations in the next few days.
-
Now that the 2 day is over, it's time to really get started on the Classic, it will be here before you know it. :)
Pappy
-
Rock n roll time now lets do this thing !
-
It's getting close enough now that I'm getting excited to start making preparations, can't wait to be at beautiful Twin Oaks again.
-
Look forward to seeing you, got your wood already stacked in your spot, ya just a little over a month now and closing fast. ;)
Pappy
-
Thanks pappy, sure helps not having to haul the extra weight of firewood all that way. Pretty sure Bill and Howard will both be at camp with Sharon and I again this year and we'll do our best to burn it up. We haven't been camping since late summer and this will be the first trip of the new year so we're anxious to get there.
-
Can't wait!
Made my first bow there last year and I'm bringing it back this year and planning to make another one.
Also going to try and make one set of primitive cane arrows with stone points and turkey feathers and one set of more proper wooden arrows.
Been looking forward to this since last year! I'll be there that Monday to set up camp.
-
I wish I could say this is finally the year I can make it but should be able to be there in a few years. You guys have fun
-
Will be going for the first time this year. Glad I finally get to see what all the hubbub is all about.
-
Will be going for the first time this year. Glad I finally get to see what all the hubbub is all about.
You will really enjoy the knapping pit. Make sure you stop by our camp we usually eat pretty well. What day are you planning on getting there? It's going to be quite a bit bigger than Marshall.
-
I'll be down that way a week in advance collecting rock and such so I will be there as early as they will let I assume.
-
Guys start showing up the weekend before. I'll be there on Monday afternoon.
-
Cool, I will be there from the Friday before so anytime is fine, sorry you can't make it Paul, love to have you some day. :)
Pappy
-
Well I hope all you have another great Classic. I am busy making some things to donate to the raffle and really feeling sorry for myself for not being able to make it this year. I am going to send some cash also to Miss Joanie for a hat and T Shirt and some to put in the cans for the raffle. :'( :'( :'( Joe
-
We're gonna miss you Joe but you will be there in spirit! 8)
-
Gettin close boys!.... Brian
-
Y'all save a place at the pit for me. I'm hoping to roll in some time Wednesday
-
Sorry to hear that Joe, I was hoping things would work out. :( Tower you know we will.
Pappy
-
Hope I get my usual camping spot next to mike and the Mc Guire's.
-
Keep me in that area too.
-
I've made a to-do list of stuff I need to get done before the classic. I've got more list than time. It's going to be a busy month trying to get done what I can.
-
Is this event a good one to bring the whole family to? My girls are 8 and 10 and both shoot to some degree and are at home in the woods. It would be perfect if there were others around that age.
Sorry for tardy response. Just saw your post.
Last year was my 1st, but couldn't help but notice good number of kiddos ... all seeming to be having a blast! There's a creek running through main area and it seems to draw the kids like a huge magnet.
I'll be dragging along an 11-yr-old this year. :o
-
Always lots of kids, they always seem to find a way to hook up. ;) :)
Pappy
-
...and always a lot of adults to keep an eye out on the kids. It takes a village you know. ;) Twin Oaks is a kids paradise.
-
Ya the creek seems to draw them, I tell folks on Monday after I hear a big Shyyyy from the creek, all them minnows and crawfish saying, MAN I am glad that is over. :) Not a rock left un turned. ;) :)
Pappy
-
It's looking more and more like I'm going to get to drive down for a couple of days. Can I camp in the woods with a hammock and is there anywhere a person can take a shower or just sneek down to the creek at night? Also what about food is there food vendors to buy from? Thanks Paul
-
Yep/Yep and yep. Plenty of woods to hang a hammock/we have a portable shower set up /we also have a concession stand from Friday morning till Sunday, Sausage/ biscuits/gravy/Burgers /dog/chips/candy and of course drinks of sorts, ever have the infamous Pappy Burger that you will be sure to want to try. You won't go hungry. :) Glad it is working out for ya.
Pappy
-
Looks like you are going to have to count me out this year, Mark. Work is really getting in the way and honestly, I don't see how I can make it up. I'm Bummed!
-
That stinks Mullet. I hope things work out so you can make it.
-
I know, Clint. I finally had to come to the conclusion that it's just not gonna work this year. Sucks!
-
That sucks Eddie. Really gonna miss you and Cathy there.
-
Yea, Pat, I'm gonna miss being there and seeing friends I only see when we are there.
-
I think its time for you to retire Mullet.
-
Dang Eddie, ya mean Rodger and I will have to be bringing our own rock? :o :o :o Gonna miss seeing ya this yr, maybe I can get my stuff together and make one of the Fla. knappins next yr. Bob
-
Sad news, Eddie. Always look forward to seeing you at The Classic.
-
Bob, I talked to Roger yesterday. I'll be sending some up with either Rog or Parnel.
Thanks, Matt, now I'll have to find something to do for a week.
-
How about getting your retirement paperwork in order, Eddie? :)
-
Man Eddie...........I'm going to miss your boo shafts this year....
DBar
-
Not old enough, Pearlie, and anyway, they'd just call me when I was retired for something or other. Just like when I'm off work or on vacation.
Stock up next year, Bill.
-
Eddie, better start practicing , Just say NO :o ;D
-
That stinks Eddie, we will miss you for sure and Cathy even more. ;) :) Maybe something will change between now and then. ;)
Pappy
-
That sucks Eddie. You never know, things could still change. I was planning on buying some cane from you too. Next year maybe. Josh
-
Joe York asked me to post these pics for him. These are what Joe has made for the raffle table at the Classic. Even though Joe won't be at the Classic this year he thought it only right that he would still help support Twin Oaks and the Tenn. Classic. Here is what Joe is sending and what he wrote about each item...
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/PatBNC/for%20Joe%20York%201_zpsnw0qf2ky.jpg) (http://s5.photobucket.com/user/PatBNC/media/for%20Joe%20York%201_zpsnw0qf2ky.jpg.html)
Made this medicine pipe for the raffle. The stem is from an 80 year old
mountain cedar (juniper) fence post. The bowl is catlanite and the bag is
from a moose I shot in the Yukon (most by far expensive hunt I have ever
been on)! The beard is from Shannon and the elk teeth are from a wolf kill.
This pipe means a lot to me and will be blessed by a Sioux medicine man!
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/PatBNC/for%20Joe%20York%202_zpsiu02h6jm.jpg) (http://s5.photobucket.com/user/PatBNC/media/for%20Joe%20York%202_zpsiu02h6jm.jpg.html)
This is a quite heavy version of the quiver I used to hunt horse back
on the ranch. The others did not always survive the rodeos, but were very a
very effective way to carry your arrows. This one is heavy and will
probably fit one of Pappy's man sized fellows. I really liked the fast and
quiet way you can get an arrow out and in. Not worth a darn if you need to
crawl and noisy in the brush. I used this kind of quiver when hunting elk on
the Oregon coast. Keeps the fletching dry! Joe

The picture is of a sling. I made two of them one for the 19th
Classic and one with some stone blades from my collection. Joe

This one is of the 19th
classic.
-
Very nice Joe, some people are going to be very happy to own them.
Kevin
-
That is some beautiful work Joe, as I have told you many times you don't have to do that but also have told you how much it is appreciated. Thank you very much. ;) :) Kevin , you and Chucky going to make it down this year ? I know Davy and Barb plan on coming. ;)
Pappy
-
We should be down there sometime Thursday.
I also finished that stave I got from you.
I'll post pictures when I get a chance.
Chuck
-
Good to near from you Chuck!
See ya there
-
More great prizes for me to purchase raffle tickets for, I'd love to win that pipe and bag. Flat out beautiful work on all of those
items Joe, should be a lot of tickets in the cans from people trying to win those treasures.
-
Chuck, I have a stave picked out for the raffle table. I have a feeling you will be interested in it.
-
That's great news Chuck, I was hoping you were going to make it this year. Been a while since Dec. ;) :)
Pappy
-
I've never been to the Tn classic before. Me and a couple buddies are planning to come this year. were wanting to learn flint knapping. Do we need to bing any tools or anything with us?
-
Lots and lots of patience. See ya there!
-
Ok thanks!
-
Pappy,
We have a Hawkeye meeting wed. evening and we,re heading your way right after that, should get there Thurs. morning.
Might be bringing along another Hawkeye member who wants to make a bow.
After missing last year, I can't wait!
Kevin
-
Kevin, could you remind Davey about my shirt? I gave him some money at the Classic last year to buy me a hawkeye T shirt. I hope he remembers.
-
David, maybe a few bandaids :o ;D Bob
-
Clint,
I'll remind him if I see him, I don't expect him at the Wed. meeting, he will probably already be in Tennessee.
What size do you need?
Kevin
-
XXL just to be safe. If you don't see him don't worry about it. He probably remembered. I'm glad you are making it to the Classic this year Kevin.
-
Clint,
I talked to Dave today and he has a shirt for you I think it is XL, hope that's OK.
See you in a few weeks, can't wait to see the redneck ramada.
Kevin
-
Thanks Kevin. I'll have to make an XL work. I'll schedule you in for a tour of the RRII
-
Is anyone interested in trading for a set of ice tongs at the Classic? They are old blacksmith made. They have an M stamped into them. I don't need much in trade, maybe a good meal or something ;D

-
Very cool, Clint you know I am always interested in stuff like that, maybe we can work something out. Things are coming together, we got the shop all clean and prettied up this weekend, also got the ranges
laid out/numbers up and targets in the woods ready to be set. We done a lot of mulch and have more to put down in areas that may get wet should it happen to rain. :-\ We plane on a meeting and working this weekend to finish things up we hope. Only 2 more weeks for some so it is getting close. See yall soon. ;) :) Can't wait to get this thing started. :)
Pappy
-
They are yours Pappy. I'll trade them for a place to camp in about 2 weeks ;D
-
Hey is anyone going to be selling Hickory staves again this year?
I'd like to make another hickory bow so I can spend a few bucks on some raffle tickets and making a good set of arrows to go with it, but I thought I remembered someone saying that the hickory was on short supply this year.
-
Military obligations struck again last year a month before the classic but finally gonna make it this year!!!! Some friends want me to bring back Osage staves back to VA for them. What is the usual going prices for staves so I know how much they need to cough up? Can't wait!!!
-
PM sent NavyDave
-
Hey Pappy,Do you have any room left for primitive camping?I would like to come up on Thurs. with my future son in law.
-
Getting hard to fall asleep at night in anticipation of the Classic! I haven't worked on a bow in what seems like a year. Seriously can't wait. Thinking I'm going to try and come down on Monday.
-
That is great news ryoon, I was hoping you could make it back this year. Vincenator there should be plenty of room , but it does get pretty full by Thursday evening. ;)
Pappy
-
Amateurhour: I have one hickory bow blank, I'll bring.
-
Thanks Matt, there should be some around to be had, we just don't have many if any at all this year. :)
I am sure Mr McGuire will have a few also, he usually does. :-\
Pappy
-
Thanks!
-
Any interest in copper boppers?
(http://i1311.photobucket.com/albums/s670/cotton7611/1C5B4051-0207-4615-A2DD-26CB5BD7725D_zpsii1j1whl.jpg) (http://s1311.photobucket.com/user/cotton7611/media/1C5B4051-0207-4615-A2DD-26CB5BD7725D_zpsii1j1whl.jpg.html)

One heavier than the other. Both will be glued and pinned. I could also make a few deer antler flakers if needed.
-
F A N C Y !
-
There is always interest in hand made objects!
-
You betcha!
-
Those look great Scott.
-
Wow Scott! You can't hardly tell those from good ones >:D
-
Very nice work Scott, speaking of nice I got a package fro Joe yesterday, man that stuff looks even better live. :)
Pappy
-
Gary Davis asked that I post this for him. He is donating for the raffle table this display case with these hand forged medieval style points. He won them at a shoot several years ago and is ready to pass them on. This picture does it no justice. You gotta see these in person. These are REAL cool and an accurate representation of war and hunting points used back in the day.
-
Woo those are cool... If I was there, I'd put some tickets on those.
Have fun guys... I'll get back one day.
Del
-
Pappy, you're gonna need to install an atm under pavilion roof!
-
Man them are nice, got to love Gary. Thanks Matt for posting, I have tried to talk him into get a puter and hanging out on line with us , but he just won't hear of it. ;) Ya I think you may be right Knoll. Dell I hope you can make it back some day, it was great fun having you around hanging out. ;) You know the Cabin is open to you anytime. :)
Pappy
-
Since I'm the 32 year old I'll go ahead and say it. If I win those points in the raffle I'm breaking the display case, attaching them, and becoming the Green Arrow.
-
I think this will be my offering for the raffle table. Its hard to tell the size from the picture but it's a really wide full length stave. Its wide enough for 2 bows or 1 with the big knot in it. Might even work for a center shot bow. I'll clean it up and make sure its good and sound.
(http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv22/Outlawstaves/20160307_101152_zpsjtompene.jpg) (http://s666.photobucket.com/user/Outlawstaves/media/20160307_101152_zpsjtompene.jpg.html)

-
After seeing that stave, I think Chuck should bring some extra cash for tickets.
Kevin
-
9 more days for me!!!
-
Yep me to Bear, I will be there from the 22nd on. 8) Nice stave Clint, thanks that is much appreciated. Ya Kevin that is right up Chuck's ally. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
I'll be there the 23rd. Whew, I can't wait. I took a new job that is nerve racking. I need to unwind! Since I'm working night shift now, I'll be able to hang in there all night in the bow shop. I might just complete one from scratch! Anyone else up for some all nighters?
-
I guarantee you won't be alone on those late nights, Greg. ;)
-
Lot's of cool stuff for the raffle, hope to see it in person.
I don't think I can make it during the week, but will stop out over the weekend. Can't wait to see everybody again!
Ed
-

I don't think I'll pull any more all nighters. Since I gave up caffeine I doubt I could make it. I'll be up until 1 or 2 each night though.
-
Not all night Greg but I will greet you about 3/3:30 am ;) :) Pat I am sure you are right, them napping boys like that late night/early morning napping, I get up lots of morning to the sound of busting rocks. ;) Hope you get to make it Ed, look forward to seeing you again. :)
Pappy
-
Are you making breakfast Pappy? >:D
-
Ya Friday/Sat/Sunday of the shoot, the rest of the time your on your own. ::) Kidding we will Russell up
something I am sure. :)
Pappy
-
Just kidding. I think several pounds of bacon will be in our camp, along with all the other goodies. I don't think anyone will go hungry. And if they do, it's their own fault.
-
It's official. Bob and I will be coming! We should be there early Monday morning sometime. I can't wait to see everyone! I've so missed this for the last several years!
-
Good to hear Ryan. See y'all soon.
-
I'll be rolling in Monday evening probably. May be bring my younger brother with me this year. Can't wait!!!!
-
Cody, will you and your brother be on bikes? I bet your still saddle sore from last year.
-
He will enjoy it Cody.
-
Hey Pappy, Looks like I will be coming, thinking about rolling in Thursday afternoon. I'll try yo camp up top near Greg, Sharon & Smokey, if they'll have me?
I've also recruited a new bowyers to stop by, one of my neighbors kids who's been making a bow with me. We should have it finished by then. If not, I told him there are plenty of WAY better bowyers than me at the classic, and a world class shop to finish it up.
Can't wait!!
Ed
-
I got the OK from the wife to leave a day earlier than I had planned. I'll be there before dark on Sunday. That way I'll miss the Monday morning rush hour traffic in Louisville. I can't wait. Only 4 more working days to go.
-
Well I am very happy to say I will be attending my very first Tennessee Classic this year. Excited to finally meet everyone
-
Awesome! Make sure you stop and introduce yourself. I won't be hard to find in the campground ;D
-
You won't regret it Aaron! See you there. Josh
-
Good news Aaron!
-
That is great new Ryan/Ed /Aaron, very much looking forward to seeing yall. This will be my last week at work so I am getting very excited, most everything is done around the farm that can be done in advance and looks as of now like we may get lucky with the weather, :-\ all we can do on that is hope. :)
Pappy
-
One week from tomorrow for Bob McMinn and myself. I can't wait!!! 8)
-
Don't forget your sleeping hat Pat ;D
-
Clint, I found the pic of me in the orange dew rag. I definitely won't forget my sleeping hat this year. ::)
I'll bring your dew rag back to you. ;)
-
Thanks guys, I am really looking forward to this. I should be showing up early Thursday evening. Some of you may have to show me around, and maybe where I can pitch a small tent.
By the way, I had to sell a truck to make this trip! ;D ;D
-
Does that mean you're pulling a Cody and riding your bike to Tenn this year?
-
Haha, not so much. I'm not that ambitious. More like a rental car
-
Pappy, I'm gonna throw this belt buckle on the raffle table, hopefully someone will want it.
-
This is going to be the longest week of work I'll have to endure all year.
Put a new grip on the bow I made last year and got it nice and tuned, and this week I'm airing out my tent in case I get tired of sleeping in the hammock or we end up getting more rain than expected, and getting everything packed.
-
I printed and laminated 32 of the Ferret's Bowyers Ruler. I'll have them at my table behind the bow shop if anybody needs one. Help yourself.
-
Laminated too?!! wooooooohoooo!
-
Yes, laminated. They are printed on white paper. I've had some printed on clear plastic at an office supply store before. Those are nice but the print wears off of them. I'll try to get some more made up before I leave.
-
I'd like one of those Clint, don't know why I don't have one of those already.
-
I'll make sure and save one for you.
-
Starting my meandering journey down there on Thursday. Can't wait!
-
Very nice Aaron, thanks a bunch. Thanks Clint , they always come in handy, I have a few left around that are in the bow shop but we can always use more. See ya in a few days bowmo, when do you plan on arriving ?
Pappy
-
I'm gona stop in southern IL for a few days since that's where I went to college. I plan on showing up on Monday.
-
3 more days!!!!!
-
Is Steve gonna be on the back of your skooter?
-
See ya on Friday Bear.
-
Is Steve gonna be on the back of your skooter?
I'd like to see that!
-
Ya me to. ;D ;D ;D they better not be riding my pup on a scooter. :) 2 more days for me. Last Sam's run for me today for supplies and then I think we are set.See yall in a few days. :)
Pappy
-
I may have missed it somewhere in this post, but when does the raffle take place and how much are the tickets?
-
Aaron ,Usually starts Friday morning and winners given out Saturday evening either just before or right after Pot luck dinner, usually 1.00 per ticket I think. ;)
Pappy
-
Thanks Pappy
-
Man, that's a lot of projected rain! Guess I better bring a poncho haha.
-
I am so ready to roll in at Twin Oaks. I've made a poor decision to take a promotion at work, and I'm about to go bat crap crazy. I need a break! Come on Saturday!!!
-
See ya soon Greg, looking forward to it. bowmo you must be looking at a different forecast than I am, and believe me I am looking. It really looks pretty good to me, ya we may get a little rain but sure nothing like we have had in the past. Some here will remember the 13th Classic, we had 17 inches of rain from Friday morning until Sunday mid day, it never stopped and believe it or not everyone had a great time. :o Crazy bunch I run with. ;) :) :)
Pappy
-
It looks like a chance for pop up showers/thunderstorms on several days but the rain fall projections were very low for the week.
-
Yea, I'm liking the forecast on Accuweather better. Weather.com is trying to discourage me. ;)
-
We surely don't let a little precipitation spoil our time...not even a lot! ;D
-
Its going to be loud in the camper if we get some hard rain. I better pack some ear plugs.
-
I'm definitely bringing the tent as well as the hammock in case the rain picks up, but either way it'll be one fantastic week.
Making a to-do list now.
-
Come on Saturday, lol no with Mark's pup, 15 cases of refreshments, bed roles, bows, and ect. No worries about Steve ridin bi***. We are planning on leaving my house at 6 am, so we should be there before noon.
Can't wait to see everyone!!!!!
-
I may just leave after work Friday night. That would put me rolling in about 4:30 or 5 Saturday morning. Just in time for the Pappy deluxe breakfast. >:D
-
Pappy is making breakfast Saturday!?! I'm in for that.
-
Pappy is making breakfast Saturday!?! I'm in for that.
Be good to see you again John. I wouldn't hold my breath.
-
Ya breakfast of champions. ;) :) Greg that sounds like a great idea. ;) Well folks it's on, I am headed that way in a few hours and can hardly wait. The weather don't look to bad but HA if you play outside you might get wet and I have found over the years that the bunch that comes to this is a very hardy bunch and don't let much get in the way of having fun. Can't wait to see my pup in person, hope she is better from the mauling she got from Daddy. Child abuse it was. >:( Her name is going to be [Sally's little sister] Sister for short. ;) :) Sounds like we are going to have a pretty good crowd the early part of the week so maybe I will have some time to hang out with my close friends before the big crowd shows up, I love that part. See yall in a few days. :) :)
Pappy
-
Auggie and I should be rolling in Tuesday sometime...today is my last day of work...gonna be a long one, lol.... Brian
-
Its my last day also Brian. I've been counting down the hours since yesterday. Currently at 8 hours and 57 minutes.
-
And I'm off! ;D
-
Hey is someone going to have one of those PA forum sign sheets like last year? I got to meet a few of you but I'd like to meet more of you this year. Other than getting to work with Greg who helped me pretty much Wednesday through Saturday (dude, you rock!) I didn't get to meet a lot of you.
I'd like to remedy that this year : )
-
We need a "Primitive Archer" day when all of us wear PA t-shirts with our names on the pockets.
-
If they take a group picture will someone please call me and let me know if I'm not there. I've missed it every single year I've been going.
-
Clint, usually the PA group photo is just before supper on Saturday.
-
Got the truck packed. 9 miserable hours at work tonight and it's on! Brian, I've got your paw paw seeds! Clint, I think you were off shooting steel drums last PA picture
-
Tee minus 12 hours to blast off!!!
-
Made it. Work was going well, and I caught them not looking. 3.5 hrs later, I'm here! It's 3 in the morning and not a soul in sight. I rustled up a not-to-Chuck standard fire, and started peelin a stave. I expect Pappy to be up shortly. He's an early riser. Tennessee Classic 2016. . .yahoo!!!
-
Yep setting with Greg around the fire. Pappy
-
Enjoy the R & R Greg. I'll see you guys tomorrow afternoon.
-
You guys save some of the fun for when I get there. ;D
-
The fun has started! And I am not there yet :( I am planning to roll in on Tuesday and I can't wait!
-
Trying to see if the wife would be okay with me coming in tomorrow instead of Monday but I think it'll still be early Monday morning.
Did put a coat of linseed oil on the hickory beast I made last year and found a few vertical small splits I need to glue up so I'm doing that and airing out the tent today, and packing tomorrow.
Time can't move fast enough right now.
-
I'm mostly packed and ready to go. I'll be heading south sometime late morning. I hope the RRII makes the journey OK. It will be loaded down.
-
Y'all have a great time at Pappy's
-
Start making plans to join us next year Bubby.
-
Well guy's ya'll have fun! I'll be watching and waiting for updates on pa. I just ain't gonna be able to make it this year. :'( But I'm already making plans for next year for sure! I can't wait to see the antics and the 20th Tennessee Classic!
Patrick
-
Pappy don't forget that I am bringing Robin Tan from Singapore,, he has flown 14,000 miles to come to the ten classic,,, so this is going to be very exciting for him..
p.s. he goes by R.T on the forum
-
Too much reading going on here....bring on the good time pics >:D
-
Well the forces of the universe have conspired to prevent my attendance to the classic this year. It was a typical Occam's razor situation. What can go wrong, will go wrong. I won't even get into details, it will just further bum me out. I apologize to everyone I had made plans with including those looking forward to the perch I was going to fry up and any of the little ones looking forward to free face painting. I'm gonna go for a little walk in the woods to clear my head and hopefully some disappointment as well. I suppose there's always next year right?
-
On the other hand, I just got the green light from work. Me and my two youngest will be with me. Me Vinny and Marley are heading out tomorrow morning. I can't wait to see all y'all!
I promise guys I'll take pics :)
-
The trucker just rolled in!
-
Parnell left my house around 7:30 this afternoon. He said he will do Atlanta in the morning and roll in around 1-2 tomorrow afternoon.
-
I really, really hate it that I'm going to miss this year's Classic. I'm saving pennies and vacation time for our Alaskan cruise later in May. You all remember to add a little extra fun in your day for me. AND POST PICTURES, PICTURES AND MORE PICTURES.
Dave
-
The trucker just rolled in!
Ah yes the mighty kenabago ;)
-
On my way to the classic should be there by 9 am
-
1 hr away.
-
Can't make it but yall have a great time. Pappy I will see ya at world in July . Hope to see a bunch of you guys there if you can make it. Work sure gets in the way of my archery stuff. Arvin
-
Got home about 4. No drama on the drive.
Many many thanks goes out to the TOBH membership and volunteers who make this event special.
Had opportunity to speak with a number of newbies to The Classic. In different ways, they each commented with enthusiasm re the uniqueness of the facilities and helpfulness of the volunteers.
GREAT to meet a number of ya who, up to now, were only in my imagination. Each of ya exceeded my positive expectations!
Only sadness is that it'll be 12 months 'til see many of ya next.
Will get images uploaded tomorrow.
-
Good times for sure
the Dasher boys made it home A OK
What a blast
was good to see y'all
Thank you Twin Oaks crew for all you do and of coarse a special thank you to Pappy and Miss Joanie!
The painting on The Spirit Station was over the top this year special for me
take care y'all
-
Had great fun.Met lots of great people, learned a lot to.Thanks to all.We will be back. The weekend exceeded my expectations.
-
Had a wonderful time as always. Thanks to Pappy, Miss Joanie and all the Twin Oaks Crew. As always the Tenn Classic is tops.
Unfortunately my camera never saw daylight so no pics but I'm sure there will be plenty.
-
Made it home safe and sound. Although I was there for 9 days, it went by way too fast. I am relatively new to primitive archery, but after my fourth consecutive Classic, there is no doubt that the folks that gather there each year are the finest people that walk the planet. People from the UK, Singapore, doctors, lawyers, mechanics, plumbers, welders, entrepreneurs of all types, Yankees And southerners, flat landers and hillbillies, all gather with a common purpose. Enjoying each other's company, sharing stories, eating like kings, a little mischief here and there, bow craft galore, all on a 400 acre slice of heaven called Twin Oaks. Thanks Pappy and crew for letting us join in, though briefly, with you again. See you next year!!
-
Thanks folks, y'all are why makes it happen. Seemed funny sitting by the fire last night by myself. Peaceful but kind of sad. Pictures coming soon. Thanks again. Pappy
-
well, all I can say is . . . . WHEW! After being there for a little over a week, seeing all I could see, and hearing all I could hear, doing all the fun things that I could do, I have jam-packed my life with the most fun in that short period of time that the rest of the year, I don't even think I'll need to have any fun. I'm still having left-over fun. Pappy and Miss Joanie and all of the other Classic crew do the most awesome job of making sure that everyone, with no exception, have the most fun they could possibly have during the time they're there. Keep up the good work. Hope to see you again. From our family to yours, WE LOVE YOU!
P.S. Robin Tan had the biggest time of his life. I really don't think he's ever going to get over it.
He says goodbye to all his ah-beng friends. You'll know what he means. Lol.

A Big thank you to Pappy and all the organizing crews of Twin Oaks who made this event possible. I really enjoyed every minute of this shoots especially talking to those who are making the selves bows.
The depth of knowledge I have learned by just talking to these friendly helful folks in just 7 days will take me 7 years in order to aquire these valuable knowledge.
Well in these short 7 days I have made new friends.
May God Bless you all ! ;D

Robin, it was great to meet you. I doubt anyone will beat or even meet the distance you traveled to get to the Classic. Singapore has to be about as far as you can get from Chapmansboro, Tennessee but our minds all travel in the same universe. Enjoy the rest of your stay in the US and don't let that red neck(can't remember your word for it) James adversely influence you. ;)
Have a safe trip home.

The past week at Twin Oaks was an incredible experience. We had a great group of guys in our camp with more food than we could eat. I spent the evenings in the bow shop and got a lot of work done on my trade bow and other projects. I put some more faces to PA names. I enjoyed talking to Robin and seeing him experience the magic of the Classic. I didn't get to shoot as much as I wanted to. I was having to much fun. Thanks to Pappy and the rest of the orange shirt crew for all of the hard work that you do for us. I managed to get a few pictures of the fun.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much fun this trip was to me, so many wonderful people, great food, and lots of laughs. Thank you to all who were involved in putting this event together. It certainly will not be my last visit.
I hardly got any work done over the 3 days I got to spend in TN, but I certainly did get plenty of opportunity to meet some really great people. An experience I will never forget.

Had a great time out there this weekend.
I guess (aside from busted Osage bow that was done on purpose) I was the only one to blow up a bow so I get the trophy this year : )
Can't wait to finish my lam bow and started working on a damascus knife that I'll have finished up in a couple of weeks.
It was great seeing all of you again. The drive back to Nashville wasn't bad, but all of my stuff is still pretty soaked and with it raining here today it'll be a few days before I can air it out and clean it up.
Can't wait to be back up there. Hope it's sooner rather than later.

Great time again. Weather was way better than average. Gil M. loved shooting his bow we scratched out.
So,
What was the Self Bow results?. . . . .

Great pictures everyone. Good to see some familiar faces that I know from Mojam like Dvshunter (where's the pencil Dave..? ;) ) and his kids. Dr. Ryoon is another familiar face though the first time we met was many years back on his first trip to Mojam.
How come the young ones grow up and the rest of us just get old ? ???
-
It was another GOOD Classic.
Could only make it for Saturday.
Very good to see everone. First time in 4 or five years that I made it.
That is a crying shame as it is only 178 miles up there.
Maybe I can talk the Wife into a Summertime weekend trip.

I got there Monday at noon and stayed the week
Had a blast and made some new friends.
Thanks to ALL
Great time :)

Great pictures guy's! I feel like I was almost there.

Was there from Wednesday evening thru Sunday morning. Had a wonderful time. Met lots of new friends, learned alot, and enjoyed shooting with some of my new friends. I was amazed on how well things were run. My hats off to Pappy, Miss Joanie, and all the Twin Oaks crew for an exceptional job well done.
Definitely one of the best shoots I have ever attended. Twin Oaks is an amazing place, but it is the people that make it so. Not a finer bunch anywhere.
Thanks to all and with luck and God willing, I hope to be back. Brian
-
Thanks guys, glad yall enjoyed. I will have more pictures later, thanks for sharing yours and thanks for all the new friendships made this year. :) :) That's is what it is all about. ;)

I got home safely at 2 in the morning Monday. Always a really long drive home, but well worth it.
It was, as always, lots of fun and great to see everyone. I'll get some of my pictures up!
Thanks Pappy and crew!
-
Pappy and the Twin Oaks folks put on another fantastic shoot. The course was truly amazing and getting better every year. One stage let you walk out of the woods into a field filled with caribou - they brought Alaska to Tennessee! ;D Great job guys!!
-
Even though I didn't get there until Friday night, I made the most of the time I had. Thanks to Dan for saving me a spot for my hammock, and to Greg and Sharron for feeding just after pulling in, it made me feel at home again.
Pappy, the place has never looked better and your team did a hell of a job, can't thank you enough!
I met up with many old friends, and met some of my virtual PA friends like Outback Bob. We even got to twist out a hand drill fire, thx Bob. It was also great meeting RT and James, Pat B and a bunch more of the PA brethren.
For me the highlight of this year's classic was being able to pass on friction fire knowledge. It started Saturday night with James Parker doing a great job of showing a group the finer points on making hand drill fires "in really most conditions". Then we broke out the bow drill and had seven or eight people make their first friction fires. Matt Wirwicki built his first friction fire that night, which was special to me because Matt helped me make my first bow.
What I really enjoyed most was helping Robin "RT" make his first friction fire. After several attempts Saturday night, we went back at it Sunday morning and Robin turned out a nice ember and blue it into flames. The look on his face was priceless.
I didn't get any pics of that, but I know some were taken, so if sometime could post them that would be great.
So now the countdown begins for the 20th TN Classic, only about 362 days :'(
Cheers,
Ed "Forest Farmer"
-
Ed, I'm one person that got my first friction fire with your tools and instructions. What a thrill it was for me. I never got beyond the smoke stage before. It was good to see you again even though we didn't see much of each other last year. Hopefully those 300+ days will fly and we can all get together again
-
That's right Pat ,I now remember your beaming smile after you easily got flame.
We took a 12" spindle and wore it down to 5" pretty quick, there was a lot of smoke being made that night.
When I plan a trip to Asheville this summer I'll send you a PM, hopefully we'll have time to meet up in NC.
Cheers,
Ed
-
Ed, if you are in the area at the end of July(29,30,31) that's when I have the primitive skills weekend. You'd fit right in. It's just a small, intimate gathering(10 to 15 folks) but we always have lots of fun. ;)
-
Well we had a great time on our annual pilgrimage to the TN Classic, fantastic hospitality by the whole twin oaks crew once again.
I didn't get any pictures and can't point to any one highlight as it was all good fun and no low moments to be had.
My grandson came along for the first time and had a great time himself. When he wasn't in the creek with his newly made young friends or shooting arrows he was hanging around the knapping pit asking questions of the pros. Stringman and Bowmo each gave the youngster a beautifully knapped point which really excited him, and Iowa Bow took time to give him his first knapping lesson and sent him home with a bone flaker and some stone to practice on. Thanks guys for being so kind and generous to him, he is really fascinated with rocks and points and even more so now thanks to getting some encouragement from you fellas.
Thanks again Pappy and crew.
-
All I can say is WOW! This was my first Tennessee Classic. It will definitely not be my last. Had an amazing time. Pappy and friends made me feel right at home. Met a lot of great people. Got to build my first selfbow. The property was awesome. The course setups were incredible. The food was delicious...especially the Pappy Burger! What a great experience. Thank you Twin Oaks. Thank you Pappy and Joanie. Thanks to my buddies at Hawkeye for including me on this trip.
-
As always, I had a great time 👍...got me fired up to knap again 😄... Pappy and crew... Thankya!... Brian

I had a great time. Tough place to pack up and leave.
-
Enjoyed my first Classic. To bad I could only be there Saturday only. I plan on next year 2-3 days at least. Enjoyed the 3-D course and meeting everybody. Pappy hope you enjoy your molasses. See everybody next year.
-
Pappy, Miss Joanie and the whole twin oaks crew...you can add my sincere gratitude for putting on a great event and putting up with this wayward trucker for a few days. I highly enjoyed myself...as always at twinoaks. Pappy did you get a chance to sample that cider? Josh
-
Molasses were great ,Thanks Gutshot hope you can stay longer next year. ;) Josh , not yet but it is on the agenda for Friday evening. ;) :) My head is in enough of a fog right now but beginning to clear. ;) :) Glad yall enjoyed bowmo/Koan/TomC. we will do it again in about a year Lord willing. ;) :) :)

Ha, you got me working on the bow the night before it exploded.
I still can't believe it literally blew up on the final weight check.
Better on the scales than in the woods, but man I was mad at the time. Oh well, practice makes perfect.

Not as well as we hoped , but they did turn some beautiful points out of it, don't think it got enough heat, plans are already in progress to do better next year, it is a work in progress as they say. :)

Heat treating is a skill within itself. Without experience, a person might get lucky, but to get it right the first time is difficult. Keep practicing.
