I haven't built a bow for awhile, so I was getting the itch. A friend asked about a bow for his son who is a good sized kid. He wanted something in the 30" draw range in a hunting weight and I decided to leave it on the overbuilt side. I picked a stave and cut it down to 70" then began chasing a ring. The bow was laid out with 1.5" parallel limbs to within 10" of tips then straight tapered to a little under a half inch. The build was very straight forward and in no time it was shooting and ready for dress up.
I went with Cipriano WDB's and wenge tips. 10 strands of D97 and wolf fur string balls from Patrick. Added the leather handle to make it comfortable in the cold weather and this thing is a joy to shoot! Ended up pulling 60#@30" with almost no handshock.

God Bless!

Beautiful bow Scott. The skins, the handle, the finish, everything fits it perfectly. That should make a fine hunting weapon.
-
Woo, sweet. 60# @ 30" there's a good amount of stored energy in that baby :)
Nice job.

I like everything about it....that snow really makes a nice setting for the pictures too!
-
Sweet looking bow! That'll spit some arrows good. Cheers- Brendan
-
Outstanding!
-
Thats my kind of bow, I can see that thing shooting where I look from here. It had to be somewhat of a challenge getting the string to ride perfect along those long skinny flipped tips.
-
Turned out nice, Scott. Very well done! 8)

Yep I have a set of long cane arrows that are 700gr. They fly really well out of this bow.
-
Thanks for the comments. I took a page from Clint's book and sealed with rim sealer. Kinda like the way it turned out.
-
Beautiful bow
-
Now that's a bright yeller stick!
Turned out very nice, Scott. Like the lines / profiles. And the hole looks cool.
-
I like that one. Well done!
-
Ver good looking bow Scott!
-
Exemplary! As Simson said, love the hole. Looks sweet going through the snake skin like that. Looks so natural it's almost like the snake had a blow hole like a dolphin.

I may have to learn your aging technique, someday. For now, I enjoy watching them darken naturally.
-
Very beautiful bow! Everything flows with it. Very nice work.
-
Mighty fine work sir, thats a critter gitter fer sure
-
Really a nice job on that, relatively long fades and stiff outer limbs produced a winner!
-
Great looking bow Scott. I enjoyed following the build on fb.
-
Well done . Yep that will hunt. Arvin
-
Very nice Scott! I like everything about it. And the FD pic just shows how nice that bow really is. I'm sure that young man will really enjoy it.
-
Very good looking bow, Scott. I'm interested in the performance on those long flips. Beautiful work.
-
Man thats a great looking bow Scott. Was gonna ask what the finish was then read that it was the Clint rim sealer. I like it, looks kinda like a matte sheen. That should be a nice hunting bow for the guy, well done.
-
Great work buddy, looks like a sweet shooter
-
Smooth buddy
-
Turned out very nice Scott. Was nice to see your progress on FB
-
Beautiful bow! Nice clean line and great tiller.

Thanks man. No doubt you were chuckling about how slow I was going! ;D
-
As for questions about performance, I really can't say. I'm not a hard data kinda guy so all I can say is it feels great. It throws long heavy arrows with ease and hits the target with authority. How that would translate into flight shooting success is well beyond my pay grade. For the scenarios this bow will see I feel I built this young man the best bow I could have... an honest hunting bow that would be durable and hopefully withstand any accidental misuse it was unlucky enough to be subjected to.
Thanks again guys. You all are too kind!
-
There is no doubt that is a deer killing machine. He could probably knock a deer out with blunt points on those heavy arrows and a 30" draw ;D
-
Big and awesome! Well done!
-
Very nice American Long Bow.Your recipient should enjoy it.
-
That turned out great Scott i followed it on fb too and enjoyed the whole thing
-
Very nice bow, with great finish. Looks so sleek too.
-
I had to come back and admire the finish on this one Scott, love that matte look
How many coats did you put on it?
-
That's a fine hunting bow for sure!
-
Thanks guys.
Aaron, the skins have 2 coats of shellac that are partially sanded off. Then the whole thing received 4-6 light coats of the rim sealer.

Just caught this one - WOW!!! Nothing but top notch tip to tip - bound to put a smile on the young fellow's face - he's a lucky guy!!!

That it is, but it had excellent early/late wood ratios.

Beautiful bow, very good job
A perfect balance
-
She is a beauty! I love the way longer bows shoot. I have been creeping up on 70" and I only have a 26 1/2" draw.
-
WOW, How did I miss this, beautiful bow Scott in all aspects. :)
