Ever eat French grunts Don? I was surprised how much bait can taste like mangrove and mutton :) . At least after we coated them in bread crumbs and fried them in oil.

That many birds could result in sore shoulders and overheated shotguns!  Now THAT is a flock! >:D
Have fun!  Hawkdancer

Went bird hunting with a friend who had a similar interest in gun care. He pulled up on a flushing pheasant and blew the last 3” of his barrel off.

BJ,My pleasure.

Pearlie are you disin snow geese? LOL

Thanks Snow your correct. A tad more than a chicken house.

Dancer we call them swarms others call them tornadoes
because they usually land and accend vertically with a twist
limiting their exposure to hacks like us. Cunning creatures.
A site to see and hear.

Ever since vacationing in south Florida, I’ve wanted to move there badly. I would love to throw all my heavy winter coats away! Heat hasn’t ever bothered me, but I can’t hack the cold anymore. Good year round fishing weather and I’m in. So.... given the choice of scenery, I’d take your first pics over the latter.

Zuma,
Them snow geese back there must see too many people!!   One of my hunting buddies says you can sneak up on them with a deer or cow painted on a big piece of cardboard, and draw them in with decoys made of white 13 gal. trash bags!, on the other hand, I haven't gotten any yet!  We have a couple months to go, though.  They are mostly about 100 miles east of us in the Central Flyway, so we have to plan ahead to hunt.  Hope to be able to get out at least once, especially with no limit, except how much ammo do you have?  Good luck!

Yep Morgan ,  I like spring and fall. Vietnam soured me to the heat.
Snow and ice and 20 below soured me to the cold up north.

Dancer- Bow Ed has cast his eyes for me in south central Iowa.
He had first sighting a few days ago. The Arkansas boys shot
2,700 the past month. By the time they get to Minot even the young are
pretty educated. I don't know why my buddy takes the high, hard road
but that's him. I'll go just to help him with the 4,000 mi round trip.
The weather has them at bay right now. Hope you get to partake.
They are tearing up their Arctic breeding grounds.
Thanks for all the wishes and replies guys.

ScottS,
Hopefully you and your buddy are not injured!  Remind him to always check the barrel for obstructions!  Btw, that is not the approved method for adjusting the choke.  A very expensive occurrence, the barrel probably suffered more damage than just the end.

Zuma,
Sounds like the reasons I left Missouri!  We get hot and cold here, but usually very dry, so the effect isn't so severe.  On the other hand, you can get dehydrated real quick.  Doesn't matter where you are thoug, -20 is really cold, and +100 is really hot!  Have argent hunt!

Zuma,
How much are the non resident tags in Iowa, and what are the season dates?

Dancer I don't know. I have only hunted in North Dakota.
Bow Ed has a better handle on that venue

I'm not a goose hunter really.Shot a lot of pheasants in my day though.I coud'nt tell ya what he pays for that endeaver.I kinda think it is'nt cheap.I just spoke with Gary a bow making/hunting friend of mine yesterday and he said they shot 35 snows yesterday. He's a local resident though. They hunt here on cornfields with decoys with a feeding geese stereo system to call them into 30 yard shots. The crazy bugger has shot a few with a bow and arrow before too.Northwest of me about an hour. You gotta get it while it's hot or follow them along the way. It's always an experience you'll remember that's for sure.
I'm certain he probably shot some of the ones I've seen flying over here.Birds are traveling from the southeast going west to northwest.Quite large groups this year.
Greg...I always like looking at different country traveling, but home is home in the end.
