-
all right guys this will be the last bow i post toward BOM,for the year,
Why?
-
Pictures of the tips and handle are useful. Also pictures of the braced and unbraced profiles are useful.. This is another example of Jame's superior work and a real inspiration to anyone who would like to approach "this bar"
I got to draw back one of Jame's bows at Pappy's Cassic in TN last year. I'll never forget it.
-
Gorgeous little bow.
-
Quit it, Quit it, thats to COOL!
-
That is an outstanding bow! Jawge
-
Hey that one turned out great James! Your attention to detail on these bows is incredible! Is that the one you were finishing up and shooting last saturday?
Alan
-
Cool bow, another great looking bow.Great job, can't wait to shoot some of them at the Classic. :)
Bet it's a screamer. :)
Pappy
-
Down right wicked bow James :)
-
You're definitely out there beyond where most of us have traveled...great looking bow!
-
Dude, I can't freakin believe the bamboo belly will take that kind of bend ! :o Amazing !
-
That is really nice! It looks like every inch of the bow is working efficiently. Great job!
Tracy
-
By golly she's a good 'un.
Like Ryan, I gotta know how you get what appears to be no more than 2", if that, of boo on boo to do a 75 degree bend and store 60# of draw weight. Don't generally see that without some horn or sinew or both. Good on ya. Real fine work and thanks for posting.
-
Impressive bow.
I would like to see an unbraced side profile of the bow after shooting it in and one of the bow after it was glued up, if possible
-
Wow, that is another very impressive bow! :o
-
WOW !! That's all i can say ;D
-
thanks guys .marc if it quits raining today i will take more pics and post later .....
-
Sweet bow James.... While your taking pictures, can I see some close ups of the belly.
-
Doesn't get any better that that! Amazing workmanship. 8)
-
I love it!
just like your last bow, it made me jump back, scream out, break my neck twice, and just getting back on my chair to say 'wow'!
I really want to try those boo backed boo's, got a little test piece yet to be glued up.
Nick
-
Sweet Bow! Very Cool!
-
A fantastic bow, robustus. Again it is an inspiration.
I'm looking forward to see more pictures.
-
Looks great as usual James!
-
That's crazy how that thing can bend like that. Great job
-
Again a very nice bow! Really outstanding!
-

Your making a fine looking bow, something about the curves of those things that catch my eye.
VB
-
I really like this bow. I think its a great design and I bet its a lot quieter than a regular recurve the way you did the ends.
Seeing it unstrung shows just how good this design is. I want it :)
-
Incredible! I don't see how wood can bend like that and hold 60lbs. You inspire me.
-
That's one beautiful, incredible bow, James. 8)
-
Beautiful crazy, the way she's bending. I like that not so primitive backup on yer hip there too ::).
-
thanks fellers, cowboy that backup is for tresspassers and poachers,i hate to have to wear it but its part of the job, personally i would rather shoot them with my bow, lol.....
-
you're the bamboo master Robustus... Just love the bows you turn out!
-
:D - won't catch me tresspassin ;D. Think I might prefer a bullet..
-
Thanks for the extra pics James. I assume that the limbs were glued straight out from the handle and that the limbs took permanent deformation as shown in the unbraced picture?
-
no marc, the limbs were not staight out of the fades, the unbraced profile exhibits the same shape staright from glue up ,,except it has around plus or minus one inch of string follow ,the bow has finally settled in at around 56 t0 58# @30" only at this draw does the bow have its full pontentail ,i will be trying one with a hickory back and boo belly soon,i will let you know how it comes out..thanks for the intrest marc.........james
-
Fantastic bow. Thanks for posting.
-
Thanks James.
It is amazing that the bow did not take more set. I don't make all Bamboo bows as it's too hard to get Bamboo up here but I have heard that you need to glue in a lot of reflex into that type of bow because they lose much of it. Obviously this is not the case with you
You should really chronograph that bow to see how fast it is.
Steve Gardner in CA and I have talked about starting to record wood bow performance and storing the data on my website, maybe on a spreadsheet or something like that. He will do the testing along with a few others that have agreed to help. The plan is to test a variety of different types of bow styles and types with arrows of 10 GPP. This is limited to wood bows only, no FG, but modern string materials are allowed. I have a self Elm recurve I built that I will be sending down to him for a start and I think a few others have agreed to build some bows for testing. This will be an ongoing project that will be updated as new information is acquired. Perhaps you would be interested in participating? PM me if you are
-
thanks marc ,yes i would be intrested in these test, althogh i have not speed tested any of these bows,i dont trust my chronoghraph,it is out of date and in bad shape..i will be working on a few more of these designs later this summer, and will send you a couple,if thats alright with you.........james
-
James
To participate in the tests you need to send the bows to Steve as he is the one who will be doing the testing. He is setting up a shooting machine for that purpose.
-
James, send me the bow and I'll send it to Steve. ;D
-
sorry mullet i dont think im gonna sell this one,too difficult to make,i dont know if i will be offering this model for sale, maybe i will later in the year or next year, but thanks for asking..........robustus
-
That's amassing. :o There appears to be only about 8 to 10" of working limb in that bow. I can't believe it takes that kind of bend at the poundage and is holding up. :)
-
love the last pics! you are definately the king of bamboo. can't wait to take the bow making class you are doing at the tenn. classic. that bow is a contender for lam b.o.m. and bow of the year.
-
thanks mehslasher,i dont think im the king, but i have made much progress,i hope to get someone to help me with a buildalong so i can post it here on pa. i dont have a video camera,,,,any takers out there? robustus
-
A build along would be great!
-
i'm bringing my camera to the classic. i can take some pics of you walking us through the rope and wedge technique and you can post a build a long.
-
great ,that sounds good, thanks for the offer..look forward to seeing you there, maybe we can gang up on mullet, you whoop him up good and ill take leftovers,,,,lol lol
-
i'm looking for him a pickled june bug. ;D dang things are hard to find this time of the year.
-
That bow is simply amassing to say the least.Your finish work is excellent and the relaxed, braced and especially full draw just made my wife drool. First thing she said was "I want one like that".. ::) Thanks allot ::) I'll forgive you if you send me the bow and I can tell her I made it ;D
Again awesome job on one heck of a fine bow, Keenan
-
thanks keenan, are you gonna be at the classic?
-
In the pic of you shooting your bow, it looks like somebody was using you as target practice cause there are 2 arrows sticking out of your side!! LOL
-
my wife shot me
-
Wish I could be there James, but this last back surgery was to close to the date and I can't sit for more then 20 minutes for the first six weeks. It's only been 3. ::) Was really bummed and had been really looking forward to going. Next year for sure. ;)
-
get well keenan, will see you next time..........robustus
-
where are the nodes? :) man that bow looks great!
Bob
-
Beautiful work of art :). can you share some dimensions? width of the limb and fade at nocks, limbs thickness, core thickness? did you heat treated the bamboo? thanks
