Ok I built this simple Simple Composite bow back last winter. It was for flight. Well I shot it at Bonneville. This bow will be entered on its merits only. Let the facts speak for the bow. No full draw pics with mountain sunset. No Lilly pond float. Just a simple bamboo backed Osage . This bow shot 260 yds and change with a 457 gr arrow. The fifty pound modern longbow record is 258 yds and change. That was a 21st century long bow. This may not be the fastest 50 # bow In the world but it holds its on in broadhead flight. It shot 337 yds in flight. The record is 350yds. This is all factual . Not a crono guess! We’ll see how it does? How did I get involved in flight archery? Well my wife could hit quarters at 25 yds I could not. However I got pretty good at bow building and could hit the earth every time. Then there was this old guy from California that kept dropping that bait in front of me to try flight shooting. This guy fletched the arrow I used to brake his record ! It’s a community of broad spectrum of people all with one goal to shoot an arrow farther than they ever have before. All happy for the new record no matter who broke it. Competitive most certainly. But you see the guy that just got his record broke by an other archer go up congratulate him or her great new record. If it’s me Usually followed with ok it’s on . Always with a smile. I love my hobby and my sport. Would love to see more bowyers involved. Arvin

Unstrung pic

Pic with record metal.

One more pic.

That was an excellent shot but iI will take exception to the chrono comments LOL, the chrono is still the best predictor of performance potential. Flight shooting is a sport where we go for the longest arrow that has a lot to do with the bow, the shooter, the arrow and the air. Chrono is just testing the bow.

You sure know how to make a good one Arvin. Congrats on the win.
-
Congrats Arvin!
And interesting bow btw.
-
Thats awesome sir, congrats...
-
Congratulations on your bow. Jawge
-
That is awesome. Congratulations Arvin!

Well Steve is it not what the bowyer did in making the bow , tuning the bow , and shooting bow that makes flight archery what we do. 😁😁😁how good was that shot? 😁😁😁 I have been working at your records for 5 years now. Just saying. It has not been easy. Arvin

I know that Arvin and you have done and continue to do a fantastic job. I am just one of those people who support the guys who like to chrono bows. For the most part I quit using a chrono quite a few years ago. I pull it out now and then. But I think it is an important tool for guys chasing performance.

It looks to me like you could shave a few grammes off the tips. :)
Those are some great distances! Well done :)
-
Arvin you were shooting a 9.14 gpp arrow. Maybe you ,or Badger could convert that to fps at 9 feet. Just curious.
-
Bassman I can’t but what Steve said is true about release and wind and arrow. Tuning a flight bow is a bit different when it comes to braking records. A chrono catches the arrow right out of the bow . I can shoot it thru a chrono when I get home but guessing I would say in the mid 180s . I use a two finger release with 50 pound flight bows. Bowanarrow these hooks are working now. Not much left on the tips.

Wow good speed. Well done Arvin.
-
welcome to the dark side Arvin. :) You know how I feel about BBOs... and now you understand why. Bamboo and osage are about a perfect match...not fussy about temperatures or humidity and they can stay strung for quite some time with no problems. My go-to bow for a very long time. Congrats on the bows and the distances... :OK

She’s a beauty Arvin.

Once again, Well done buddy. John

Now to put Arvin’s achievement into proper perspective by highlighting the really impressive part of the story. Arvin’s 260 yard record for a 50# primitive bamboo backed osage bow (with linen string) also exceeded the 50# MODERN longbow Broadhead record! The Modern longbows allow all the latest synthetic composite glass & carbon materials for the bow and the latest and greatest modern string materials. I wonder what would of happened if Arvin shot his bow with a modern string in the modern longbow division? His achievement is pretty remarkable!

Me to. Doesn’t have to be fancy, but need a full draw.

PS I keep thinking about that stave you sent me and finishing it up. This winter it’s going to be.

Pic of full draw.

Maybe someone can rotate the pic😁😁
-
No wonder you shot so dam far! You are shooting off the side of a cliff!
-
Looks like I cheated myself about a foot not getting up to the shooting line all the way!😁😁😁
-
I don't know much about flight shooting - when shooting off the side of a cliff like that, do you use hide glue or TB for your shoes?
-
Here ya go Arvin!
-
Looks like the string was vibrating in that second pic, you can see the oscilation.
-
I think that’s just what happens sometimes when the bows are in movement.
-
Nice.

Oh yeah it's fascinating to see the physics involved in a bow in function.
-
Thanks Kevin I’m sooo computer challenged.
-
Congrats on your accomplishment and a fine record breaking bow!
-
Thanks for the kind words everyone. Arvin
-
Congrats on the distance! Pushing the limits! Great stuff.
-
I saw this thing in action. Thanks for making this friendly competitive flight thing fun Arvin. I’ve got my work cut out for me next year.
-
Yes Chuck and thank you for bringing your son out. I look forward do seeing him compete next year. Good to see Kevin and he’s son braking records. The young people need this now for sure. The sport needs them. We need the young involved in all the archery world. Arvin

That's a nice Osage bow Mr Arvin. You must be happy with how it shot out there in the flats?

I’ve even got my on moderator assigned. Does that mean two hits automatically for every one of my post. Don’t think I’ve broke rules and don’t intend to .Arvin
