Title: Which set up for pig hunting
Post by: Newindian on July 15, 2014, 10:14:43 pm
Given the choice between a 54" bow 53#@27" shooting a 550grain arrow and a 66" bow 63#@27" shooting a 750grain arrow  which would  you take. I prefer the first bow but for pig hunting should I get some extra power?

The one you shoot best!   Both have plenty of power and good arrow weight. Put either arrow where it needs to go and dead piggy. Your shooting ability and a scary sharp broadhead will get it done.

What they said but I prefer the heavier ones for pigs. It is just a little more oomph for pass thru shots. Two squirting holes in a pig is better then one.

alot depends on the size of the hog you shoot...bigger the hog...thicker the shield...and whether you plan it or not you might hit it...if you do a heavier arrow with more thrust behind it is gonna penetrate a big boar more than a lighter bow with a lighter arrow.....thee is a youtube vid of a guy shooting a compound bow with 100/150grn arrow on a very big hog into the shield at 15' ...arrow pentrated 3 whole inches...had the speed but not the energy.

I would shoot the heavier set up,, that is what I am used to,,, I get a better release at that poundage,,,, that being said,, if I was used to the 50# set up ,,,and was more accurate with that,,,,, I would shoot it,,,  so choose the one you shoot the best based on your accuracy,,, not on the poundage,, they will both work,,, if the the lighter bow shoots better for you,, you can always shoot a heavier shaft from it,, which would be a nice middle ground,,
