Sometimes the nodule is solid and the spalls just want to come off clean. Used a 6.5lbs hammerstone to pop this off.

Yeah I am lucky to find good rock around here, this job makes it easier for sure. My wife is definitely over it lol but she puts up with me despite my rock addiction. It probably helps I don't bring home as many wood staves as I used to.

Allyn do you heat treat it or work it raw

I haven't heated any of this stuff yet, which is harvester chert. Seems like a lot of it can be worked raw in my opinion. There is some that is grainier and I would probably try to heat that just to get cleaner edges.
