Title: cooking utensil
Post by: mullet on December 08, 2007, 03:25:46 pm
I know a few of you have seen some of the coral points that are posted made by Claude VanOrder. He also does museum reproductions of native artifacts. This is one of his cooking pots he gave me.It is made from creek clay with shell and knapping flakes crushed up for binder.I've got to cook something in it to get rid of that new look.

That's cool Eddie! Theirs some clay down here in the Brazos (it's red) the girls always make bowls and things when we go there - I may have to try that out. Out of curiosity, when you make a bowl like that - will it crack over open flame or if it heats up too fast?

Claude is using a kiln now.But when he first started,he would pile wood like a dome over the pots.Like enough to burn about 24 hours. It made some cool looking stuff, the way the flames would swirl. He told me the key is to have some binder, flakes fibre, and so forth.
