Title: Ball bag
Post by: Stoker on January 17, 2017, 03:06:56 pm
Started a project coupla days ago.. Saw a tutorial on a muzzle loading forum.. My twist to it..
1. Cut 2 squares of veg tan 6 x6  7-8oz
2. did layout round part was 4'' circle.. Stem 1 1/4'' and rounded the meeting place due to I'm using a 3/4'' plug
3. glued and stuck together
4. Stiched the parts together.. I went double because I thought it would be stronger
5. Heated sand to 275F
6. Soaked leather for about 1/2 hour
7. Filled bag with hot sand and packed till full.. Only leaving enough room that my 3/4'' dowel would go in about a 1 1/2''
NOTE - Use a 1/2'' dowel to pack the sand as you can move it around easier.. Also it helps to have a extra pair of hands for the funnel and filling of the sand..  Thanks Dan
8. Dry and trim
Comments are always welcome
Thanks Leroy

Got to add a strap and finish the edge a bit

Gotta load pics didn't work

Nice, do ya know how many balls it will hold, looks like a lot , I picked up a similar one made of deer rawhide. Bob

Thanks for the comments guys..
Well Bob.. 82 50cal Rb's.. I had to check the other night  ;).. Went on my first trail walk at a rendezvous last fall had a hoot of a time.. Carrying a box of balls was a pain.. Gotta make one for my grandson for ''his 32'' one this size will hold 653 sure of that  >:D might scale it down a tad
I thought of making it out rawhide.. Are they durable? If you have time can you post a pic..
Thanks Leroy

Stoker, here's a pic of the rawhide bag, Looks as if this was built the same way as yours, I notice that it has a real heavy beeswax finish on the outside to make waterproof and keep rawhide from getting soft, this one holds 30- 50 cal, roundballs. Full clip :o :o ;D Bob

Thanks for the pic Bob.. I started rubbing in beeswax last night on my bag for a finish..
I like the way the edge is braided and the lace holds the stopper.. Might have to try that on kiddo's..
Thanks Rob needed a project
Thanks Leroy
