We are gonna have a blast
You wont want to miss this
Non stop fun enjoying the great addiction
-
Went on my calendar the day I got home after last year. I won't miss it for anything. Hope to see everyone there.
Kyle
-
Hopefully my wife and I can come and spend the night. If so I will probably set up and flint knap with Steve Laut or Mike Cook of they show up.
-
That sounds aewsome John be good to see you folks
-
Good Lord willing and the Creek don't rise, Hope I'll be feeling well enough to attend this Year (=). Bob
-
Me too Bob
We sure been missing you
-
I'm very much looking forward to seeing everyone there again Guy. Heck of a good time and this year should really be something special.
Bjrogg
-
Yep BJ this year will be something special for sure
May is still a ways off but I have a good bit of work to do so I best get at it
Marie says she would be glad to help me work on a add for the magazine.
Looks like we have a volunteer to help with the Atlatl stuff so that should help
couple of new vendors wanting to come
things are taking shape already
Should get to see a few Michiganders in a couple of weeks at the Expo thats always a good time
-
I plan on making my stay a day or two longer, that gets me near a week, providing momma is still holding her own by then.
-
I'll think about getting there a day or two earlier too if I can get the Outlaw to do the same. I can't cook for just myself :) ;)
DBar
-
You know I'm good with it Bill. We will need to find another excuse to tell our wives why we are leaving a day earlier again.
-
Hummmmm.........yea that my be a little tougher this time for ya. :) But I'm sure yu'll come up with somet'n.... :) ;) :)
DBar
-
I may be in for that also. almost positive my wife's coming up this year although she wouldn't come till later in the week. I know Nina would love an extra couple days out of school but Dad could also use a couple days by himself too....
-
I'm going to try to get there as early in the week as I can and stay as late as I can but farming will dictate what I can do. My wife and I are really looking forward to seeing everyone.
Bjrogg
-
Farmers' growing season lament ... never enough time.
Look forward to seeing you, BJ.
-
You know I'm good with it Bill. We will need to find another excuse to tell our wives why we are leaving a day earlier again.
That's an easy fix. Just tell them you cant wait to see ME!
-
Wouldn't miss it for the world. Last year my son and I could only stay Thursday and Friday night. We were so bummed about having to leave early Saturday morning. I can't wait to see what all is happening for the 25th Anniversary.
-
Y'all just let me know for sure what day I'm ready now
I just posted a story from Facebook of y'all great job up on the bow page make sure you check it out
Thanks Again
-
Im fairly sure at least i will be there. I dont knownof i can bring the kids agaon, but i know they want to go. Especially marley. Cant wait to see yall again and represent the mo crowd.
-
That's great news!
-
That's cool can't wait
Bjrogg
-
Good news big Dave. Always cool to hang out with you.
-
Only four months to go, I better start getting ready. I look forward to seeing you all there, and maybe some new faces.
Kyle
-
I put in for Wednesday through Friday off work. I'll take another day if you guys get in earlier, pending my wife's health of course.
-
Yup gotta get stuff ready in the next couple months cuz I won't have time to when I get back in the field. Just finished up tanning six mink, fourteen muskrats and a coon. Need some more supplies for a couple bear hides I want to tan yet. Got a couple other surprise trade items to. Really hoping to get some fox yet but just haven't been able to put anything together yet.
Can't wait to see you all
Bjrogg

If you can only make it for one day, which day would you go on?
-
If you can only make it for one day, which day would you go on?
Saturday, I would guess. Believe trade blanket will be that day, and eve get together dinner, and shooting events. So yeah, I'd vote Saturday.
But you'll kick youself for not coming earlier. ;)
-
If you can only make it for one day, which day would you go on?
thats a tuff question I suppose Friday cause Friday starts Thursday evening and runs till Saturday evening LOL
Friday and Saturday are the big days
-
Im looking forward to seeing all you guys again. Especially after my jug shoot practice at mojam. Ill be sure to tune up before i get there this year. (-S
It wont be long now.
-
If you can only make it for one day, which day would you go on?
Aaron all I can say is once you get there your not gonna want to leave in one day. Therefore I vote for coming early and leaving late. Sorry might not be much help but it's to truth.
Bjrogg
-
If you can only make it for one day, which day would you go on?
My son and I went for the first time last year and we could only be there Thursday and Friday. I believe the trading blanket was Friday night because we saw it all go down. We had enough time Saturday morning to tour the vendor booths before leaving but the smell of all that delicious meats in the smokers for Saturday night was hard to leave.
This brings me to my question about the Trading Blanket. Are non-primitive bows allowed to trade there? I know it's a primitive event but I swore I saw one last year and was thinking about putting my recurve up for trade. It's an awesome bow but I just haven't used it since getting my longbow. I have been considering selling it but if it can be traded off for some other great goodies I'm all for it. I may shed a tear when it goes but it needs to be enjoyed by someone.
-
Coby you can trade anything you want. I traded a glass bow off last year for 500 plastic nocks. Patrick is such a sucker :)
-

I almost brought it up last year but decided not to. I wasn't sure what all was entailed in the festivity. Now I know. Cahl really wanted one of those fox. I'll have to try to convince my self to let it go to someone who is going to use it. It's too nice to just sit there and look pretty.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing all you guys again. Especially after my jug shoot practice at mojam. Ill be sure to tune up before i get there this year.
There's a bunch of good shooters at Marshall. It would be cool if more of us took part in the Jug Shoot.
Carol enjoyed Elm Hall last year. So she may tag along to Marshall.
Am looking forward to late May!

You might want to put her in charge of the camera Knoll. I seem to remember you lost track of it for a while last year.
-
Mikey I will gladly enter the jug shoot if you bring me 2 dozen 50-55 arras cut to 29.5" with 125 grain tips. You can have 'em back after I win. :)
-
I wouldn't think it would take 2 dozen ???
DBar
-
Pearl, you show up at the line. I'll have some ammo for ya. And, like Bill said, it won't take 2 doz for you!
-
Just what is this jug shoot you all are speaking of?
-

Mike........ I wasn't talking about Pearl. He may need 3 :) :) ;)
DBar

Pearly, you dont want mikes arrows. Ive seen him shoot. Try for bills arrows instead. :NN
Clint, mike is always losing things, cameras, coolers, his mind...

A "mind" is highly overrated. I barely miss mine...hardly ever used it anyway. ???
-
Very true paul! :)
I will jave some feathers for tbe trade blanket again this year, nice and processes left wingers. I wish i had more stuff because there were some fine items in the trade last year! Ill keep looking around though. I know i have an old wool hunting jacket arlund somewhere.
-
I've seen what those dang jugs do when the arrow passes through! I haint wrecking my quiver full :). And, with the super duper mega powerful bows I build, I know they are all going right through to the bales.
Cant wait to see ya'll again, I done had fun last year
-
Coby you can trade anything. Who knows maybe someone is looking for a horse trailer with living quarters in the front. I'm sure my daughter in law would be interested. Some forged stuff would probably go over big.
The jug shot is held up by the main hall. Where the backstop targets are. They fill two one gallon plastic milk jugs with water. They hang both from a rope and pully system so they start out the same height above ground. The object is to shoot and drain enough water out of your jug so that your opponents jug drops to the ground. You are allowed as many arrows as you can beg, borrow or steal. You are not allowed to remove any arrows from the jug. Winners from first round move on the next round till final round. Only target points allowed. No broadheads or modified points. Also only wood bows and arrows. They usually have several age groups of kids and sometimes ladies and men's shoots. It is a lot of fun and I'm surprised it hasn't been even bigger event than it is. I think this years going to be special. It can be a bit hard on arrows but it really is fun. Not always he who has most arrows in jug wins.
Bjrogg
Pearl if you make one bareshaft arrow tuned to your powerful bow that's all you should need. Just rip through the bottom inch of that jug and take your arrow to the next round.lol.

-
bjrogg,
considering I am down to only one horse that might just happen ;) Unless I can find a nice mule this summer. Although, it's really handy to have a gigantic archery room with me.
I'll really have to learn how to make those wood arrows now. That jug competition sound like fun. I bought some really nice ones from True North at GLLI but I just can bring myself to put the points on them. They are sitting on the counter in my studio and I pet them every time I walk by. Good thing the Kalamazoo Expo is this weekend, I'll have to get some goodies to get started making my own.
-
Making arrows is incredibly easy. I have no doubts you can do it. Buy a Bitzenburger. They are pricey, but they are the best and will last two lifetime's. Plus, they are made in Grand Ledge. Buy your shafts from a reputable source, like TSA. You will get weight and spine matched shafts that don't vary. You buy 12 shafts and you get 12 arrows in the end. You can dye the shafts with any kind of water or alcohol based dye. I use leather dye. Then simply wipe 4-5 coats of Minwax gloss poly on each and fletch them with Duco cement.
-
If you can only make it for one day, which day would you go on?
I have been approved for taking May 24-27 off from work, so where does that leave me now?
-
I'd say that now leaves ya "sittin' pretty". ;)
:BB :OK (-S :OK (SH) :OK (=) :OK -C-

I'd say leave first thing Thursday morning, get through Chicago before rush hour, and pull in just before lunch. Come ready to have fun, meet great people and learn a ton. Brings lots of arrows for the jug shoot, and cool stuff for Friday night' trade. Saturday is potluck, so bring a dish to pass.
Kyle
-
Aaron that sounds great. Do like Kyle said. I don't want to build this up so much that you'll be disappointed, but I really don't think I could do that anyway. I really think you're going to like it. Hopefully the weather cooperates but even if it doesn't it just gets more people together in the pavilion. If you've got friends or family interested bring them to. Can't wait to see you all
Bjrogg
-
So, now we will have TWO cheezheads at our party..........yippy.........:)
-
Well Pearl, there'll actually be 4 at a minimum. Aaron, my dad, anot her young one Jacob Bulitz and myself.
-
I look forward to meeting them and seeing you and the ol' man again. I need to make a swap for one of his wing bones calls.
-
He's got a whole bag of calls ready to go. He's an easy trader also, shouldn't be too tough to talk him out of one.
I can't wait for May to get here. I am already getting stuff together.
Kyle
-
I've been thinking about trade blanket goods since the last one ended. I came unprepared to that party. Not so this year.
-
Yep Drums, I hope to bring a bit more Gusto to the blanket this year also. That was fun.
-
I get the feeling the trade blanket will be exponentially bigger this year. Seems like even the spectators had fun. I can't wait to see what gets laid out there.
Kyle
-
I'm looking forward to trade blanket to. I really enjoyed the way it was organized. It was very entertaining. Man this is going to be a good meet can't wait but I still have a lot of stuff to get ready and not much time before I get busy again. It'll be here before you know it.
Bjrogg
-
I'll be there with some HHB staves, old files, and possibly a knife or two for the blanket if I can convince myself I really don't need them. Nothing grand, but my first couple attempts.
-
Only 80 days. (SH) Not that anyone around here is counting.
-
We talked about it this weekend while the guys were up from Chee-cago. Looking like we may try to sneak in Tuesday evening. It just keeps getting earlier and earlier every year, and I LOVE IT.
-
Hey Pearl,
Clint and I might see you there on Tuesday.
-
I wish i coukd get theree that early . Save some fun for me.
-
I'll save a whole bag of fun for you Captain RB! And a spot for your tent :)
-
Wish I was going and could meet all of you. I enjoy the web site, tutorials, how to's, discussions and sparing that goes on from time to time. With the time frame that this is held I would really like to see the pizza cook off, especially the morel mushroom recipes that I am sure you guys will be incorporating into your pizza recipes. Enjoy your time there, we never know what tomorrow will bring.
-
I'll save a whole bag of fun for you Captain RB! And a spot for your tent :)
Yep right next to Clint and I.......
-
Yep sounds like and is a good event to attend there.
-
Ed, you'd love it. Think MoJam without the heat.
-
I've been making arrows. Ed you'd love it. Really great get together at a really nice conservation club. I'm guessing Robin would really like it to. I know my wife sure does. Trying to get my buddy to come. He always has relatives come that weekend. Maybe I can get him to come Tuesday evening and if he still thinks he has to he can go home for the weekend. He'd have a blast.
Bjrogg
-
Good to hear so many are coming early !
The price for early admission is you have to carry at least one target and stand across the swamp before you can set up camp
See ya soon

Hey Bill you could carry out that 55 gallon steel drum... Wait a minute that's not a Target
-
Wow ....I'm never going to get rid of that drum shot....:) ;)
DBar
-
I can help set up targets. I'm pretty good at toten' heavy stuff.
-
Hey Bill you could carry out that 55 gallon steel drum... Wait a minute that's not a Target
I think Bills look tords Clint may have let Clint know its NOT a target.
-
Glad youll save me a spot, otherwise id have to camp next to mike again and get blamed for his camera going missing. ( he lost is again temporarily at the kast get together) 😁
-
That old duffer will figure it out soon enough big Dave. Leave the camera at home and the smart phone in your pocket Mikey!
-
Neck carry! ::)
-
It's only a couple months away now. I think I may have a couple arrows for Clints 55 gallon target. Maybe we should paint a deer on the side of it for him to make it legit.
-
Paint a deer on it? Then he'd miss for sure! (SH) :-D
-
We dont want him to miss Mike! Its way funnier when he hits it. It really makes bills day. -C-
-
MO contingent may get DISinvited if we keep harassing the "regulars". (-S
-
Never Mikey! You guys are regulars now.
-
2 months
-
Counting the days. Hope we don't get woke up again at 3 am by some (fill in the blank).
-
Didn't know my snoring bothered you Pearl... :) :) :)
DBar
-
It was probably Patrick!

Latest news from Wilder Creek, the new building is up but won't be finished inside in time for our event
thats a bummer but ok we will do without just like always.
The club also wants us to bring fire rings that will keep us from scarring the grounds , I know we are not the culprits of the scares but they had to put the rules in place so lets show our appreciation to them for letting us have all this fun by cooperating to the best of our abilities.
Thanks folks and see y'all soon
-
Thanks for the update Guy. Does the fire need to be elevated off the ground?
-
I'm sure it does, Clint. Otherwise a ring prevents nothing. That could a be a problem for cooking over and a problem getting a fire ring from home to there. Oh well, not our rule or ground.
-
That's one of the many reasons I switched to a charcoal brazier for cooking at living history events. Many places won't allow dug fire pits. It's a small price to pay to play on someone else's land.
Kyle
-
We have a raised patio fire pit I can bring. You can have nice fires in it, but not mega blazers. Its just a cheap stamped out tin bowl with legs. I will have room in the truck for it.
-
My cousin uses a old clothes drier drum. It works pretty good. He cooks over it but like Pearl said no big bonfire.
Bjrogg
-
Not that big of a deal if you can bring that Chris. Still can have decent fires in it and that just means we all set up camp around the community campfire. Those cooking grates I made should still workout and have enough height to be able to swing over the pit.
-
I'll weld up a couple of 18 x 18 pans that we could put charcoal on top of for Dutch oven cooking
-
Good idea Pauly. The pans will work like a charm. Can you put 3-4" long legs on them so the bottoms don't scorch the grass under it?
Mean Jean says she is going with me no matter how she feels, within reason of course, and no matter what the weather is like.
-
yes but I was going to make them more like 8 to 10 inches long so we can drive them into the ground a little bit to level them off so they're not wobbly
-
Great idea fab guy.
-
I have a ceramic fire bowl in a stand that I could try to bring if I need to. It has some cracks in it so I'm not sure it it will survive the trip.
-
Great to hear, Chris, wifey will be along to keep ya in line.
-
Great to hear, Chris, wifey will be along to keep ya in line.
How about yours Knoll? Sounds like your the one needs a eye kept on. ;)
Bjrogg
-
Great to hear, Chris, wifey will be along to keep ya in line.
I would be the happiest guy there if she can make it, for many reasons. Her and Clint have become bestys the last few months. He sent her jewelry and she sent him a preserved gator head :)
-
Sure hope your the happiest man there Chris.
Bjrogg
-
Glad to hear Jean is pressing on for coming , it's so good to hear that !
Thanks for everybody understanding about the fire situation
May be a bit differant this year but by next we will be old hats at it.
I plant to try to get a couple made and hope to just leave them there cause I think that will be the real solution in the end. Like I said dont think we are the problem but hope we can be the solution.
Life has been interesting for sure so far this year Marshall most likely to be my only archery for this year
Life is good but hard but God is great ! Wow 25 yrs of Marshall , thanks to all of you !
-
Looking forward to the 25th, Guy. Hope all is well. Of course, if you need anything....
-
Thanks Matt
see ya soon
-
Hey Guy, do you know if they have power available at the pole out back where the second drive comes in? I ask only because if Jean comes along I may need to plug in a heating pad or an air conditioner if things go haywire for her while she is there. Its a crap shoot as far as when the bad times come and go. We had a relatively good oncologist visit yesterday and the first thing she said was, "guess Im going to Marshall with you", with a smile on her face.
-
That's great Chris. If you want it you can have my spot by the uncool crowd. Actually there really isn't anyone there. Just me my wife and the vendors. Guess there just aren't that many uncool people there other than me.lol. It's real close to bathrooms and showers to.
Bjrogg
-
Thanks very much for the offer, BJ. I think she would be more happy away from crowds and noise if she has to spend any time in bed. One way or another I'll get what she needs to be comfortable.
-
Ok I will be attending Marshall this year been talking to guy a little and he’s probably tired of my questions so I thought I would just see what everybody here has to say. I seen the post about the fires ✅anything else? Dvshunter and Patrick have said a lot of good things about this gathering ! It will be my wife and son and me attending. Can’t wait to meet new people that love to shoot and make bows.
My son wants me to ask if this is like mojam (which he loves very much ) and he can work on bows? Also he likes to split staves so If anybody needs help look him up!
Cant wait to get there andy
-
Andy I've never been to MoJam but I'm pretty sure your whole family will love Marshall. I've heard people discribe it as " like MoJam without the heat" probably want o bring clothes for almost any kind of weather. If you like making bows bring your tools and a vice if you've got one. There's usually several there but can be lots of guys and gals using them. There's a very nice 3D shooting course that follows a trail through the woods. By the main entrance there are bathrooms and a shower. Also a target with backstop. We have a pot luck dinner and benifit auction Saturday night. We had a really nice trade blanket last year that I'm guessing will be even better this year. You might want some nice and not so nice arrows to shoot. The jug shoot is fun but can be hard on arrows the bear across the pond to. For me it's a great place to get some supplies I just can't find at home so I've learned to bring my bow budget money for buying stuff I need for good price with zero shipping. If you have any more questions just ask.
Looking forward to seeing you
Bjrogg
-
Thanks for the info clothes for all weather good to know . I will be bringing lots of supplies with me . So no heat like mojam that’s what o like best about it . 😃
-
. . . been talking to guy a little and he’s probably tired of my questions . . .
I wasn't gettin' tired of your questions! :) 8) :)
Glad ya decided to make the trek!!!
-
I can’t wait to make the trip!!! When I get excited about something I ask a lot of questions. Ask the mojam guys but I know that primitive events you can’t beat the hospitality!!!
-
May not be as big as mojam but not sure mike could tell ya better on that
Chris I will have Mike D check on the power so we know for sure but with construction going on I would think power would still be back there
-
Thanks Guy, see you soon my friend.
-
Ive got a nice quiet inverter and a heavh power cord thst runs an air conditioner very well tbat you welcome to use pearly. We can run it off in tbe woods and no one would hear it. Just say the word.
-
The way the weather is looking, we might need our snow shovels if things don't turn around. (S)
-

-

Thanks big Dave. I will let you know when we get closer. I'd would rather not run a generator, but I will if she needs it to be comfortable. Like Ryan says, we might need snow shovels!
-
So no shorts, cut off tye dye and bare feet!?
-
Dave around here you could need insulated coveralls, or shorts and a tye dye tee shirt. Could even be in the same day.
Bjrogg
-
Wake up to frost and go to bed with a sunburn :)
-
It's officially the 30 days and counting mark if you are arriving on Wednesday. Only 29 if you are coming on Tuesday. ;) Excitement is rising, snow is melting and camping gear is being checked over.
The last two months have been crazy with lots of travel for wool/yarn shows. I feel like I've been out of the loop. But from now until August it's all about the bows!
I spent some of that yarn money I made on a nice camera so I can capture some of those great Marshall memories this year. Cahl's dad has taken off the entire week and we have staves coming out of our ears here, including some beautiful dogwood that a local woodpecker was reeking havoc on. Cahl wants to bring it all ;) Raised fire pit is already in the trailer.
Do you need donations for the Saturday night auction? We left on Saturday morning last year so I'm not sure what happens at this, other than the obvious. I'd be happy to see if I can find a thing or two around here to donate.
-
29 days for me. Glad to see the fire burning bright for you and the family. The raffle table and auction table always has room for more. I'm sure one of your hand made hand spun yarn projects would catch attention, it would mine.
-
Wow sure got a lot of work to get done before then. Really hoping for the weather to get it all done.
Bjrogg
-
Corn first and then beans :)
-
I'm sure one of your hand made hand spun yarn projects would catch attention, it would mine.
I'll see what I can get done in time. I have a hat I'm trying to finish up from the last of some handspun buffalo that was a prize for Cahl's Facebook Group. I may have a ladies shawl from some yarn I dyed in my displays that I could donate too. I'll see if I can work something up for the fellas too.
-
I and the little lady will be there, probably Thursday! Super excited!!
-
I and the little lady will be there, probably Thursday! Super excited!!
We've started the party earlier since you've been gone Cody. I think some of us are showing up on Tuesday this year. It will be good to see you again.
-
Cody who? Not ringing any bells :)
-
I and the little lady will be there, probably Thursday! Super excited!!
We all look forward to seeing you. It's been awhile. See you then.
-
Cody who? Not ringing any bells :)
I seem to remember guys talking about him and a nice lady friend but don't believe I've had the pleasure of meeting them. Looking forward to meeting you Cody.
Bjrogg
-
Man this going to be great
looking forward to. Some time with you and that young lady Cody
still cant get over what a sweetheart she is
Coby I will sell anything that will hold still long enough to get a bid on it so tell Cahl and Jon to move around once in awhile if you plan on taking them back with or it will cost you
Somebody shake the bushes and get Ryoon out of hiding we need to meet that gal of his
see y'all soon
-
Coby, I will sell anything that will hold still long enough to get a bid on it . . . .
::)
-

Does anyone who is attending Marshall do horsehair braiding?
I have some from my gelding that I lost last fall and I would really love to have a couple tassels or a small bracelet made. Nothing super big but this guy was my “one in a million” and I would really love a something to remember him by.
-
Be good to see ya this year Cody.
DBar
-
Getting close enough to smell now. With it being a slow to arrive spring up here we should find some mushrooms again.
-
Yup didn't find any here yet but should be starting soon. Man with this late spring I've got a lot to get done farming before I can come. I did get the sugarbeets planted though and so far they look good. Hope I can get some time to make a few things for Marshall yet. See you all soon.
Bjrogg
-
So, how many days until Marshall???
For a boy who became interested at last year's event, he sure has a stock pile waiting for this year and this is only about 1/2 of what he has accumulated form so many wonderful friends. That hot box is full too.
Good thing I'm bringing the trailer this year. Hoping for some advice and guidance on what to do with each one. What to start out with and what to hold for later when he's ready for it. I'd like to tag it all so we utilize them and not waste this precious resource.
hoping I did the pics right so you can see them

Hey what's going on.....only two weeks away and less for some of us. Who's going and what's going to be on the trade blanket this year? I'm looking forward to seeing Southern Michigan and all the Michiganders again. Also looking forward to the good food, bow/arrow building and fellowship around the campfire. I got a couple of bows in the works, a osage static recurve with some pretty sharp hooks I'm really liking.
What's up Mr. Dasher be glad to shake your hand again.
See all you guys soon.
DBar
-
I'm trying to rig up some kind of elevated fire pit for us Bill.
-
Marley, Vincent, and i will be there but not until friday. Im trying to get there earlier but that may require quitting my job.
-
.....only two weeks away and less for some of us.
I was wondering the same thing. Thought I had scared you all away. lol
Both my husband and I are looking forward to working on our first bows. Our son, Cahl, is pacing the floor in anticipation of the event again. Although, if you ask him, he's cool as a cucumber. I am considering bringing a RER Retro Recurve to the trading blanket. I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to part with it yet though. I haven't shot it since I bought my longbow though. It might just need to go somewhere it will get more attention. I have a shawl for the auction that I knit form some yarn that I hand dyed.
We have pretty much kept the trailer loaded after our return home from the Michigan Longbow Assn Spring Shoot. I have a few things I need to restock and shuffle around since the back is loaded down with some staves for Cahl.
What days are you all showing up? I'm looking forward to seeing you all again this year and getting to stay for the entire event.
-
Wife escaped from hosp today and must use a walker for awhile. But she insists that's no excuse for me not going.
See yall sometime Tue. Won't run out on ya this time, Bill. ;)
-
Bill I've been busy farming and getting lots done. I'm going to make one way or another. Everyone here knows there's no way I'm missing it. Looking forward to trade blanket and seeing everyone.
Bjrogg
-
Dad and I will be pulling in Thursday mid day, unless I decide to skip work a day earlier. I've got a few goodies picked out for the trade blanket and raffle. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone again.
Kyle
-
Well you guys know what I think of work.....you can work any day but you'll never get and experience like Marshall.
Clint I'm sure you'll figure one out for us.
Dave, you better get your tie-dyed butt there sooner than Friday :)
Coby don't think I met you last year but will be glad to help your family on some bows this year.
Mike, you didn't miss anything but me Saturday, rained aaaaaalllllll day. hope your wife is doing well and Kim is looking forward to elm hall and seeing all the girls again.
BJ, I can understand farming, I had just a little back yard garden and know when mother nature says its time.... its time. :)
Looking forward to meeting your Dad Kyle this year...... don't think we met "formally" last year :)
Looking foward to it
Till then,
DBar
-
Yes you can work any day but for some reason you have to pay bills every day. I'm hoping to come Tuesday night but may not make it there till Wednesday afternoon. Nina will definitely be coming with me my other two ladies may or may not up in the air still.
-
Well Paul you helped me come down out of the clouds. yea if your liv'in you got bills.... Be glad to see ya and Nina when ever you get there buddy....
DBar
-
I'll be rollin in tuesday afternoon... cant wait to see y'all
-
Looks like the Campfire Tuesday night will have an interesting crew around it.
DBar
-
Rylie wants to tag along sooooo bad! But she'll likely have sball tournament during the holiday weekend and her team relies on the bat and work behind the plate.
But who knows . . . time will tell.
Will be rolling in sometime Tue and looking forward to seein' yall!
-
What do you guys think, will this work for an elevated fire? I didn't have anything to make sides on it. The legs come off easily so it stores flat. I didn't have any steel to use for a nicer looking set up. The old dish was all I could find to use.
Paul, will your cooking set up work with this? It's 14" off the ground.

Mr McGyver . . . :OK
-
Here's the one I made for you. I made the post a little bit shorter it's about 42 inch long. I can't see having to beat this thing in more than a foot unless you're in pure sand. I'm trying to find a garbage Weber grill and just cut the legs down a little bit and drive it into the ground or just weld them right on the side. If I do find something though I guarantee I'm going to donate it to Marshall. between driving with that smoker full of pork grease in my car and then potentially adding a burnt up fire pit my car will smell Terrible by the time I get home

I got a lot of work done but still have a lot to do before I can come. I'm really hoping to get there Tuesday afternoon but it's gonna be flexible.
Bjrogg
Man it's coming so fast
-
Hang in there gang we are going to do this thing no matter what
life has plenty of twist and turns but this family will always find us a way to get together for Marshall
I will be there Tuesday night dead or alive
Pearly sorry buddy looks like no power in the back field as yet so best figure on a generator if you're going back there
or we can make room for Jean up front
thanks everyone and see y'all soon
-
Can I use carbon arrows or it has to be primitive arrows. thanks
-
Carbon is ok to shoot the 3D course. The several shooting competitions require wood.
-
Do any of you guys plan on doing any steam bending? I can bring my steamer and forms if you do. Just let me know.
-
Cool MI temps are looking good.
-
Been thinking about this with it coming up, and wasn't sure. Archery just hasn't been much on my mind the last several months. And with still having snow up here until like ... two weeks ago, I've only been out shooting a few times. No building yet.
My friend David asked me about it a couple weeks ago, and I've been thinking about it since. Pretty sure I'll make it down. Not working right now, so that can't get in the way, and it's always one of the highlights of my year so ... I guess I better hack something resembling a bow out of a hunk of wood in the next two weeks so I have a new toy to play with, grab something to work on while I'm there, and travel light.
I'll have to check in with David again and see what he's got going on. We might carpool down together.
Anyways, we'll see what the next couple weeks bring, but it's looking like a go for me.
-
My phone died last Wednesday. We are all hanging in there still. Looks like I will be down Tuesday around 6 and hopefully Jean comes down Thursday some time.
Looking forward to relaxing and see all of you again.
-
Cool MI temps are looking good.
Knoll. Where I live here by the big lake it's been in the thirties the past three nights. The long term forecast looks fantastic for Marshall.
Me too Pearl

Here is what I've been working on for the raffle/auction. It was a black locust fence rail that my grandpa cut and put up when I was 4 or 5 years old. It should hold at least 18 bows if you double up on each peg.

That's cool Clint.everyone needs more bow racks.I'll buy some tickets on that one...
DBar
-
::tucks extra money away in wallet::
That is beautiful!
-
Thanks! A little history behind that piece of wood: My grandpa fenced in a small pasture and made a barn for a pony he got for me. That piece of black locust was part of the fence he put up that summer. This picture was taken when were moving the barn into the pasture. That's me trying to open the door. That should give you an idea on how old that chunk of locust is.
-
Ill bet you still look like that trying to open the door! >:D
Ill be looking to take that rack home with me as well.
-
Some kinda memories in that rack, Clintster. Special of ya to make it avail to the community. :OK
-
Just about a week away now. I'm debating if I leave a day early and show up on Wednesday, mid day. It'll be great to see everyone again and hopefully put a few more faces to names this year. Now I just need to get everything I want to bring to fit into the truck.
Kyle
-
Do any of you guys plan on doing any steam bending? I can bring my steamer and forms if you do. Just let me know.
Bring it please. I have a semi snakey billet blank I want to deflex on Paulys caul and then I'll add hooks. If it works it works, if it doesn't we have more fire wood.
-
Well guys, I had planned on going but unfortunatly, and fortunately both.... i have to work. I hope yall have a blast and i will see you at mojam!
-
I forgot my wife has to work Tuesday. We're hoping to be there Wednesday afternoon.
Bjrogg
-
All the fun will be over by Wednesday afternoon BJ
-
Sure hope not Clint. By all means don't wait for us to get there to start having fun, but I figure there's still at least four days of fun left after we get there. Man I'm gonna be ready to just relax a bit.

Tick, Tock... Tick, Tock...
-
It's looking more and more unlikely that I'll be at Marshall this year.
Carol injured her back on job couple months ago and the associated pain has become progressively worse.
We were hopeful that epidural injection of steroids into spine would provide significant relief. It helped temporarily, but pain is returning. Looks like surgery is on the near horizon.
So I'll be continuing my new role as in-home nurse. Those of you who know me, understand how hilarious that statement is.
Will build lil campfire out back in grandkids' campout area one eve next week and mentally picture self with yall in Michigan.
Have fun . . . share lotsa pictures!
-
Bummer Mikey! On both counts. Poor Carol and sorry you cant make it. Tell her to get feeling better.
-
Same hear Mike, really hate to hear that. Take care.
Hope to see ya soon
DBar
-
That sucks. Who are we going to pick on now?
Take good care of her.
-
Not this old guy.....I'm not as nice as Mike, I get even and then some. >:D
Remember I do the cooking. ;)
-
Don't mess with a sleeping bar! :)
-
A week from now I'll be heading east into the rising sun. Can't wait to pull in and let the fun begin. It'll be great to see everyone again. To those who can't make it, hopefully next year things work out in your favor. Take care of your loved ones.

I never bite the hand that feeds me
Learned a long time ago, "Never pi$$ off the Cook..." ;)
-
Oh no Knoll. I hope your wife finds some relief soon.
I am starting to load things into the trailer. Would anyone be interested in using a cresting machine. I purchased one at the Kalamazoo show in January but haven't tried it out. I was thinking about throwing it in the trailer and giving it a try while I am there.
I am also excited about the Mother's Day gift my son let me have. I found a really neat looking blank in his stash of goodies and I ooogled it enough that he took pity on me and let me have it as my gift. It's pretty knarly looking but full of character, kind alike me. ;)
Is it next week yet???? Can someone hit the time warp button please?
-
sorry to hear that knoll. sure hope Carol can get some relief. hope surgery isn't necessary, but if so is successful
bjrogg.
-
Will miss you Pops, but taking care of Miss Carol is much more important then whooping all our butts on the course. all you got to do is Spike your coffee every morning and you'll feel like you're at marshall
-
Back operations have come a long way in the last few years. Very quick recovery times and better success. If it offers relief, id be looking forward to it. Plus, morphine can be fun :D
-
I'm going to do my best to make it down Tuesday after work, if not, I will be there bright and EARLY Wednesday morning for coffee and a c-gar.
-
Thanks for well wishes to me bride. She deserves much better than this live-in nurse.
-
Sorry to hear that Mike, wishing you guys the best. I'm sur Clint can keep ya updated with plenty of pics 😁
-
Good idea!
Knoll, just send your camera with DVS. We will take plenty of pictures for you and send it back ;D

The extended forecast looks like good camping temps. 70's/50's.
-
Just an FYI. I will have a fire bowl with me at our camp. Didn't want anybody lugging one up if they didn't have to. Anybody can use mine to cook on if they need to.

I dont remember any vulgar pictures >:D

I dont remember any vulgar pictures >:D

Nice cool north east breeze off the big lake by my place this morning. Furnace is running. 43 degrees on outside thermometer. Probably not quite that cool in land and south by Marshall but I'm doubting you'd need the AC on.

Ok looks like me sheryl and Wyatt will be arriving on Thursday morning sometime! Can’t wait to meet everybody! Wyatt will have a few extra staves he always likes to trade for stuff or other staves. Not much of a sunrise on the sunrise side this morning. Foggy and cloudy. Hoping it's clears off I really need to get one more good days work done before I go. I guess they'll just have to put the "B" team at it. I know they can do but I'll probably get lots of phone calls. Hopefully be heading out this time tomorrow. See you all soon.
Bjrogg
PS Pearl if your serious about those staves you have that are firewood, I'd take some. I'm sure I can get some more kids bows for our young 4-H group. Got lots of dead ash for firewood.

What a great weekend!
Vincent, Marley and I showed up friday just in time for the trade blanket and we got to make sone nice trades with matt, Aaron from wisconsin, clint, and bj. Marley got everythung she wanted except the bear rug! After that it was visiting with friends until trying to shoot the short course. As luck would have it there wasnt enough light or fresh air to make it through, but clint, ryan, mine and i tried our best! Saturday went by entirely to fast as well. Im trying to load up my pics to share now so hopefully i can tell some more stories then!
Thanks to good people at wilder creek conservation club for everything they do and thanks for showing us some norther hospitality again this year. This shoot is on the short list for must attend. The place is beautiful and the people are great.
-
The 25th Marshall was an incredible time. A big thanks to Guy and the rest of the club members who put this shoot on. I had such a great time hanging out with all of my friends and family. The trade blanket was a lot of fun. There were some great trades made. The club added some new targets to the range which was much appreciated. I tried to get a few pictures of the fun.
I was lucky enough to win a bow that Pearly and Badly Bent made for the raffle. Thanks for the bow guys.

Me and Mike Lynch (Stixnstones) had a bow swap. He made me a beautiful hackberry bow with dark rattler skins that look awesome. Thanks for the bow Mike.

Man Paul, your little girl sure is growing up!
Looks like the lemonade stand has upgraded to cookies to! I hope the girls did good again this year!
Just as Dave said, put this on your list for next year.
Guy deserves all the recognition he can get. He is always making sure everyone is having a good time.
Great pictures guys! And the food looks great!
Did Bill make any of his campfire pies?

There's still a few of us left here. Susie and I will be packing up to leave soon. I miss you guys, gals and kids so much already. I haven't even left yet and I already can't wait till next year. I took a bunch of pictures and will try to get them posted when I can. Really great time. Lots of familiar faces and a bunch of new ones. All of them belong to fine people.

Another amazing Marshall. It would take a catastrophe for me to miss this gathering of friends. It was great meeting Wyatt and his parents from Feathers and Wood, Li from China, Aaron the cheesehead, John Kopec and few others this year. Time just flew right by, as per the usual. I took a handful of pics. The last two pics are a few father son tandems. John and his son and Chris and his son.
-
Few more. Ryan gave Pauly and I new bows this year. Both were amazing and mine shot like a dream. Thanks again my friend. The last few pics are of Wilder Creek. It tempted the fisherman in me allll weekend :)
-
Few more. Wyatt holding is almost shooting new bow, big Dave the no-beard wonder, Pauly heating a bow for the 17th time, should have used steam like I said. And the last is Jeff. He has been working/learning his first bow at my place and decided to drive down for the afternoon on Saturday to get some work done on it. His fire is burning HOT and that makes it easy to teach.
-
Good pics of a fun looking gathering with great weather.
-
It was a bit warm but other than that the weather was perfect. We had a few minutes of sprinkles early one morning but it wasn't even enough to wet the grass.
It was very cool to see the next generation of bowyers asking questions and learning.
-
Great pics guys.. sooo glad you like the bow Clint. Ok, so another amazing week hanging out with some of the best folks I've ever met and yet another year i got caught up in the fun and forgot to take pics.Cant believe its here and gone already.
-
Great pictures guys! I had a grear time by the fire with you mike. Its grest to laugh so hard you hurt! Its also nice to know you have a crack security team patroling the ground at night watching for strangers.
-
Thanx Dave for the laughs, i havent laughed that hard in a long time.. sorry to everybody else who was tryin to sleep
-
Codys wife juanita said she was so happy when we went bed, but then the little man in bills tents snoring kept her up so we may have been the better of the two!

Anyone who camps near us better be able to handle the 2 a.m. giggles.......

Just got home. Wow this is when it's nice to live by the big lake. 94 degrees all the way back until we got about 12 miles from home 76 degrees at my house. Can see my brother out working in my fields. Hope everyone had a safe trip. Only 360 days to go till next time. Can't wait.

I agree paul. Who doesnt like laughter? O:)
Bj it was cooker there than here. We hit a cool 97 today with 300% humidity. That makes the heat index about the same as the surface of the sun. I still cant figure out hiw to post pics with imgur from my phone.

Text them to me Dave and I'll post them

Yea that little man followed me home yesterday and we had issues at home that night with my wife Kim. She kick him out of bed and sent him to the guest room. I can't get rid of that little guy for some reason... :)
By the way I had a great time, the pizza was great and Clint we will do it again.....Thanks to all of the people that put this event on. It is a super event. would not miss it for anything. there were a lot of new comers which was great, loved talking bow and arrows with them.
Pearl...did you ever catch a fish???? and I'm needing to get the scoop on the "crack security team patroling the ground at night watching for strangers" from Mike or Dave. ??? Maybe I can get them to keep an eye on that little guy for me.,,, ;)
Yep "Dun had a good time".......

Just finished unloading everything and returning my brother's truck. I'll try getting some pictures up as soon as I can.
Jeb it was great to see you and Chris again. You both look great.
Bill I'm thinking Knoll is going to need a crack security team to protect that formerly $1,200 bedazzled pink cooler that had to of tripled in value after collecting all those valuable bowyers signatures.
There was a very nice number of new faces. Both guys and gals. It was really good to see so many people working on bows. Once again, Marshall is a fantastic place but it's all of the truly amazing people that come that make the memories.

Thanks so much for a wonderful week at Marshall. The entire family had a great time. Cahl has completely crashed. I had to stare at him a few minutes to make sure I brought home the right kid... Hadn't really seen much of him after we set up camp at Marshall. He had a great time and said on the way home he felt bad he didn't work on a bow much but he really had a blast with all of the kids there. He doesn't get much of a chance to spend time with other kids so I told him we understood and those staves will be waiting for him in the barn later this week.
Both John and I would like to thank everyone for helping us with our first bows. I didn't get nearly as far as John but I'll get over my fear of the draw knife on my next one. ;) Now we have the knowledge to help Cahl out a little more. It was great to be welcomed back and even more wonderful that we got to stay the entire event plus some.
I'll go thru my camera in the next couple days and see if I managed to get any photos to post. I forgot to get it out Friday and Saturday.
I really don't know how the weekend could have been any better. Sweet trade blanket goodies, great raffle, awesome auction, amazing dinner and new friendships that are suited for a lifetime of fabulous memories. Thank you everyone who had a hand in this event. I can not wait until next year.
-
Where to start first I would like to thank everybody that stopped by our booth to say hi and look around!! We love attending these events so much , people are salt of the earth kind!! Would really like to thank everybody that helped wyatt with his bows he was working on pearly, osage , Paul , and whoever else helped him and BJ for trading with him on the arrow . Sheryl and I had a great time loved visiting with everybody and made lots of new friends!!!
I hope it is in the cards for us to come back for many years, but if not this will be a special place with us!!
Thanks Andy,Sheryl and Wyatt Barnett
Oh about forgot a very big thank you to guy and everybody else that helps put this on !!!!
-
It was nice to meet you and your family Andy. I enjoyed working with Wyatt on his bows and strings. I'll see you guys at Mojam.
-
Looks like another great time for sure, thanks for sharing the pictures. More please. ;)

If you like to buy supplies from folks just like us, then Id highly suggest talking with Andy or Sheryl at Feathers-n-wood. I know I found my new supplier of anything I may need. I like supporting folks I know, and I'm proud to say I know them. Mr. Wyatt is a class act young man. It was refreshing to see him working on a bow more than a dang cell phone. The young mans self bow fire is raging.
-
I'll second what Pearl just said. I enjoyed my morning coffee and visited with Andy and his Wife. They we're both very down to earth fantastic people. I was really surprised at the trade when Wyat pulled his stave back the first time around. There where some very nice offerings set out. I put a stone point arrow out and really the others put what I thought where even nicer offers. The second time around I put a knife out and that seemed to be what he was looking for. Sure glad he got it. Later he approached me and wanted to buy a stone point arrow. I traded him a beautiful new arm guard and an brand new set of cabinet scrappers. I really needed both. Andy I sure hope you all can make it a regular stop on your circuit. Look forward to seeing you all again.

I first met Andy,Sheryl and Wyatt when I was a 4H Archer leader here in JF county. Wyatt was only about 7 or 8 years old. (And a bit shorter... ;) ). Good folks and always fun to shoot with. It's been fun watching Wyatt's enthusiasm for self bows grow over the years. Glad you other folks got to meet them. :OK

I like that pic of Ryan and his bride with Mark behind them pounding a beer, AC/DC shirt and all! :) Kool Kat that Mark guy is.

That picture and the one with Mike, Cathy, and Bill's backside made me laugh (lol)
-
That one too, but I figured the big guy had enough ribbin' after the "recording" we heard Saturday night :) He took a lot of heat off Mikey this year.

I hope I did this right. I couldn't figure out how to get the from my Flickr account to here but I think this worked.

Nice pictures. I promise I've got a bunch I'll post. I'm planting navy beans now.
This one of Matt giving Guy his bow and arrows from everyone is one of my favorites.

On another note Paul (Wyatt’s old archery coach) was there in spirit, Sheryl was shooting one of his bows he made !! Buy the way Paul she really , really liked it she may not give it back 😉!

Lots of really nice photos. Thanks. I really had a good time and already look forward to next year.
-
Still in my tractor. Just a drive by post here.
Ryan I really enjoyed splitting that stave you got from Frank with you. Should keep track of how many bows you get from that one.
Another favorite is this one of Steve with his water jug. I've only seen it on my phone but I count 14 arrows. You'd think that would be enough to do it but the water is still right to the top. Needed a bleeder.

Great pictures guy's!
Pearly, Wyatt is a good kid for sure. Fun to joke around with as well. I to have had the pleasure of working with him on several ocasion on a bow. I participated is helping him build his first bow and then when to a shoot a few months later and the little stinker beat me out for first place with that same bow.
Patrick

He is a smart kid. I didnt have to give him alot of details or hands on. He would ask a question, Id answer, and he would go back to his horse and work away. Rinse and repeat until it flung arrows :) = happy young man

You are right Knoll. Our camp group picture is the new background on my computer.
I was disappointed with the lack of Classic pictures posted. Thanks everyone for posting Marshall pictures.

Monday morning. This is proff that Marshall is just a place. It's the fantastic people that make it a memory. I very seldom go on vacation that I'm not ready to go home two days before it's time. That's never happened at Marshall. I think that's why we always have to wait till everyone is gone. Then it's just a beautiful place.

Until next year

Great pictures everyone. Thanks for sharing.

So many to thank !
It really takes us all to make this event what it is and one of the greatest events there is !
BJ you are correct in that its just another beautiful place with out the folks that create all of the memories.
We forget to take pictures so BJ your story thru pics is icing on the cake
Special thanks to Bruce and Cindy, Mark , Mike , Matt and Heather, Karen and Albert , Cindi.
I cherish you all for helping
Many of the rest of you folks pitched in and I thank you for that.
Thanks for letting this tired old worthless nut think that he has done something worthy of a thank you
While there may not be much left this body can do I can say that I honestly love each of you that come and together we have lots of fun making some of the finest memories .
Share the Passion, have fun, and see ya around the next bend in the trail !!

Well said Guy... great lot of pics bj

There was some talk about having an ugly bow contest next year. Is anyone interested in doing that?
-
Thats easy, i'll just make a bow ;D

You sell yourself short. That bow you made me looks and shoots awesome.

Oh the short joke possibilities....

Thanks for all the pics Folks - wish I could have been there ! Bob

Your ugly bow days are long past, Mikey. You are part of the A-Team cookie cutter bow club.
-
I found myself standing the my studio yesterday looking at staves instead of carding wool. I guess this says it all. I absolutely loved chasing the ring on my first bow even though I felt like I was in pin knot purgatory. Thanks to all of you who spent the time looking over my shoulder to reassure me it was all going to be ok. I'm already eyeing another stave. I'm hoping to have the one I am working on shaped by MOJAM so that I can get some assistance tillering it. Over the last year, since I bought my trad longbow, I have said several times that I had no desire to buy another bow. But sine this past weekend I have the desire to make more. Now I see what it's all about. There is something very cathartic about the entire process.
I shot the bow I got at the trading blanker from Osage Outlaw yesterday and could not be happier. Thad trad bow might just hang on the wall now. Which is completely the opposite of what I have been believing all this time.
Thanks again to everyone for a wonderful and memorable week at Marshall
-
Making bows is kind of "addictive", like potato chips, peanuts and pretzels. ;)
Getting caught up in the making is a big part of the fun. After you make your first bow each one after will be "La Penultima", the next one until the last one. :)
-
MoJam 2017 saw the creation/decoration of this run-of-the-mill cooler. It became mighty unique and "valuable" to me.

Marshall 2017 made it even more so as autographs were added late the last night as I slept soundly. Hope it accompanies me to many more such events and more uniqueness added.

That is one pink bedazzled cooler a bowyer would proudly carry. Just think if that cooler could talk.

Looks like a half a bottle of bourbon signed Greg's name for him
-
That cooler really does look great Knoll.
Just thought I'd do another drive by post here. Promised I'd post a few pictures of the bow Cody donated at the benifit auction.
Here's the profiles. It's a nice shooting bow. Really very similar in all manner to my Badly Bent bow from the raffle last year. Incredibly narrow tips. It's a real Misslemaster for sure.
Thanks again Cody for donating it. Hope to see you and your wife again next year.

I'd really wanted to have been there for longer this year, stupid military schools interfere again. Hopefully next year I can show up for more than just one day like this year. But it was good to get out and do the long course with Jill and her friend. Every time I see everyone working on staves I keep contemplating making another self bow ;). But I think I still want to start from a blank again if I do, from a whole stave is daunting to me lol.

You need to get one of his vises BJ. They are great for working on bows.
-
Yah I agree Clint. I used Mike's and it is very nice well built vice. My frugal self says I can build one myself. My logical side says you should have just bought it. By the time my logical side talked loud enough Cody was gone. You snooze you lose. Have to see if my frugal side can talk loud enough to get me to make one now.

Good pictures and thanks for posting. I have some old photos from the 70's when the Michigan Bow Hunters used to hold the Bear shoot there. The parking lot had several lines of pine trees and archers would camp in between them. Loren Willy used to be the MBH governor for that district and he hosted the shoot there. Every target was cut out of cardboard and was a black bear.
-
Emminis i think i snapped a pic you guys out shooting! Matshall is just the shoot to help make it to mojam. Im ready planning nexy year!

I'm thinking about 210 days or so to MOJAM. We are probably going west the first weekend in June for CampJam(music), and maybe try to get to Mesa Verde this time. Not sure if Jacie can make it to MoJam, she tries to keep her business functioning! Also, maybe time for a 2019 thread for both events!? :BB (=) -C- (AT) (R (SH)!
