Title: Quartz point (pics) and a dacite one too.
Post by: ricktrojanowski on August 25, 2009, 09:51:47 pm
The only local knappable stone on LI is quartz (at least the only one that I know of).  I've been messing a bit with it and finally got a point.  Not the prettiest, but its pretty thin (for me) and pretty sharp.   The best part is the stone is free ;D.  All percussion was with a dogwood bat (Hillbilly inspired) and antler, with copper pressure flaking.

That is a point to be proud of. Can you imagine how hungry a person would have to be to beat one out to eat? Or how good they were doing it?
