Title: Osage Reflex/Deflex (10 yr bow)
Post by: SA on January 11, 2024, 09:24:21 pm
This is one I just finished up, I started it about 10+ yrs ago its from a sister stave to a bow I made for JW Halverson in one of the first bow trades.
This stave had some natural deflex so I flipped the tips to make it somewhat of a R/D bow, got it shaped, sanded, tips put on and floor/very low brace tillered then put it away for 10 yrs. thought it was time to finish  ;D.
This is some pretty hard Osage (and a little snakey), it has a nice ring to it when tapped on (like ceramic) was a little tricky to tiller but it turned out nice I think....kinda glad I waited to finish it.

SPECS.
59" NTN (60" overall)
45# at 26"
5" brace height.
tips are osage and purple heart laminate.
finish with a leather handle wrap and a few coats of tru oil, I really like the contrast between the back and belly but it will eventually turn all the same color.

Looks great Shawn. I like the bend on that.  Looks like good things comes to those who wait.

Looks great !ve got a couple staves that are about 10 years old I’ve been saving back. Real good Osage is getting hard to come by these days.

Nice bow! like them narrow nocks with the rest of it. Too bad that color will darken up on the belly, looks pretty cool now.   Always wanted to try but it always seems to be the next project.

Bow Brother, I gotta say I love the looks of that sweetheart! The contrast between belly and back really makes things pop. If you wanted to preserve that look for longer, you could look for some spar varnish that has UV blockers in it. That stuff ain't cheap and the UV blockers break down over time, but you could definitely extend the look if you felt it was worth the effort!

Thanks yall, appreciate the positive feedback..
Ya JW I'm tempted to try that UV varnish, but I'll probably end up just leaving it as is and see how it turns out.
