Title: Support Request - New Bowyer working with Cascara - First bow on my own

Hello! My name is Viktor Nikolovski, a youth nature instructor in training with the Wilderness Awareness School. I'd like to support our youth summer bow-making camp by having some firsthand experience. I have 39" stave I'd like to make into a short bow somewhere between 25-30 lbs. I believe it is Cascara. Any recommendations on:

-laying out dimensions?
-take off sapwood?
-other tips and thoughts?

I can't comment on the wood (I make lam bows), but this should be in the Bows forum. This forum is for demonstrations and how-to's from experienced bowyers showing how they do things.

Welcome to PA and welcome to wood bow building.That stave is pretty short and will only be able to be draw less than 20" and that is if it is well tillered. As a new wood bowyer a 68" stave would be more appropriate and it will make the tillering process easier for you.
 I've seen some very fine cascara bows.
