Title: Snapped my boys bow to be
Post by: Bo on May 06, 2007, 12:58:53 pm
:'(  I snapped it stringing it for the 1st time.  I just tried to rush things and that happens sometimes I guess.  It was for my boy and he had put some time into it.  He took it better than I did.  It was a red oak board bow 58 in ntn with recurved tips.  It was going to be beautiful and now it is broken much like my bow making spirit.  This is just a reminder to all that it only takes a second of poor judgment to end the life of your selfbow.

Yep, it just happens. I have an osage that I was working on and at the first brace I heard the tick. Game over.

If you are going to build bows you are going to break some - that comes with the territory. You just got to let it go and start another.

I had a pile at one time of broken bows, some that had months into them, and in a second, gone. But don't give up, at least you learned something from it. Jump back into it and watch so you avoid the mistake. maybe the next on will work.

I know it's rough to put time into one, and then lose it. All I can say is consider it a learning experience and start on another one. You'll be successful I'm sure! We've all broken bows...I've loss my share.

It's better to have tillered and snapped, than to never have tillered at all.
