I have 2 on the short string and they have both been shot. I don't like rushing the finish work so may be a few weeks until I decide which one to send. Family reunion coming up last weekend of June at Granby, CO and I'll finish them up when I return. Should be easily be done with time to spare.
-
I've got a couple at floor tiller and doing some heat adjustments then off to tillering next week. I have a long weekend this weekend so I might get started on tillering. It's my birthday on Friday and my wife and Is anniversary on stared at then her birthday on Sunday. So I might have to wait till next week but I'll probably head down to the shop one of those nights.
-

-
I am finished tillering and just about ready to ship. :). The bow is done, just recapping a few loose ends ;)
-
I have the first coat of trueoil on so I need to finish sealing it up and a new string to make and it's done.
Grady
-
Pretty much done. Should have mine shipped in in a couple days.
-
Hey fellas,
So, a long ways back I mentioned a possible old fence post bow to send out. That plan didn't happen, not sure what wood that post was, but looked like some kind of white wood, and good and rotten all the way through, so I didn't want to even try it. Plan B is a hickory bow, and it's coming right along. Will get a pic or 2 posted up when I get a little farther. It'll be finished up by end of next week for sure.
Tattoo Dave
-
good to hear, as soon as you guys ship ill update the list.

Someone is going to have a good weekend!
-
Alright, :D now on the short string. Bending evenly with no apparent problems. Pulling smoothly 50@14 with a lot of wood left to remove. I'm figuring another couple days and then finish work between shoot ins.
-
Adding a special grip today then tru-oil finish. might make a different color string and get a foam pool noodle to protect her in the tube. I am happy with this bow, fun to shoot and look at. I should be shipping this weekend depending on pool noodle availability!
-
If you have shipped, please go to page one of this thread and double check that your name shows your current status!
If your status is not up to date, drop a line to me or to BOWMAN53 and we can update the list. Thanks!
-
NEO...ITS SUMMERTIME!!!! 8) :o lmbo
-
I know 4dog, went to get one a few days before my last post and wally world was out... wally world was OUT!?!?! almost bought enough beach balls to shove in the box and blow up to fell in the empty spaces!
-
:( Well after bow #3 was tillered out and about 50 arrows through it I've made a decision to send out bow #2. 3 shoots good enough and actually draws smooth out to 26" and around 55#'s but a small deflex area just above the fade has me concerned as it looks to have a slight hinge in that spot.
Number 2 is a great little bow although it came in close to the bottom of the scale of my recipients specs I'm hoping he'll be satisfied. So I'll get tip overlays added, a handle wrap and rest installed, a few more coats of tru-oil and plan on shipping 1st of next week.
Here's a photo of 3 at 24" on the tree.
-
Starting nto the finishing touches tonight.

I'd have to pretend a bout of the flu!!! :P
-
Mark me as received! Got home and had a bow from skarhand waiting for me. Its a beauty and will post pics soon. Probably not till next week after elm hall. I'll get a chance to shoot it plenty at elm hall and show it off. Thanks Joshua
-
just about fully floor tillered ...im being picky...sue me.... :P
-
Finish is on and so is handle. Just gotta get the string and scribbling done. Then "Spooky" will be on her way >:D
-
bow wrapped in pool noodle: check
shove it all inside pvc with endcaps: check
tape ends and wrap in paper bags: check
place a little letter to the poor soul inside: check
place the string inside the pvc tube: ... oh crap!
So instead of shipping today I guess it will be going out tomorrow. stupid mistake number 99
-
JUST DONT MAIL IT TO YOURSELF LOL
-
Two weeks to go. Time for a gut check for everyone that has not shipped yet.
Take a good look at your calendar and x out the days you work, the nights you have Odd Fellows Lodge meetings, the times you have to help a buddy move a body, or what have you. Is there enough open time left for you to finish your bow properly? Or is it going to be a rush job and you send off just whatever you got???
This time around, we have several people that have finished or near finished products sitting ready to ship. If you are not going to make that deadline, do the stand up thing and let us know so we can settle this quick.
-
I will be finished by this weekend and ship next week.
Grady
-
Glad to hear that Grady.
Of the 19 names on my half of the list, only 8 have shipped. Some might take that as a reason to not push a little, feeling like they are hiding in anonymity. Well, that is not the case. I have my eye on you and a red telephone on my desk that goes to Santa's "black ops" department. It's not a large department, not a lot of elves. Just one that kinda looks like mullet. But he is very good at his job. Do not make me pick up the red telephone.
Post a pic of your progress or drop a line on this thread letting us know where you are.
-
Been figuring on what grip to put on. Got what I'm gonna do, hopefully by next week she'll be outta my hands :'(
-
I used cherry bark and sinew.

Last picture from me! I am feeling a little odd not being right there when I give a bow away so I am excited to know what they think. First bow trade for me and I have to say this has been a very cool experience and I really cant believe all the awesome bows posted here. Also a big thank you to the guys running this crazy thing! You all rock and I hope to better my skills to catch up with yall!
John
-
The bow trade can put some odd stresses into your usual process, that's for sure. Not being there to see the look on the person's face is certainly one of them, Neo. For some of us that have turned out a few bows, the one for the trade often acts like the first bow we ever tried to make, everything going wrong or just making freshman mistakes. My last trade bow was a heartbreaking event for me, I lost a lot of confidence in myself and my skills over that bow.
It was down to gut-check time, I was standing in the shop with a busted bow, a huge knot on my head and eyes that would not focus correctly. I nearly pulled out of the trade, but did an overniter to chase a ring, find the profile, floor tiller, long string tiller, and final tiller all in one overnight push. I tweeked final tiller and put the "lipstick on the pig", as they say over the next few days. I was not fully satisfied with the tiller, but was happy with the rest of the bow. Mostly, I was confident that the bow would shoot.
Ye Olde Bowe Trayde. It gives you a chance to rise to the occasion and show your stuff, or else it exposes your weaknesses. Maybe both.
-
You guys are busy busy busy. Come on I want to see more smiling faces holding up some eye candy for me to look at.
-
I got my PA trade bow in early but I have struggled with the trade bow I'm making for TG. I'm on my 4th bow now and I think it is the one. I've got her tillered, a few shots through her and looking to start the finish work soon. This has been the worst period of bow making for me in a long time. The other 3 bows I made for this trade just weren't up to par for something that I will send out in a bow trade to someone else. They were all shooters and I gave two away to friends, just not trade worthy.
I've been building wood bows for over 25 years and I still screw one(or 2 or 3) on occasion. :o
-
just have to write on the bow then il be done
-
more pics its 49 at 27
-
Details, lad, details! Bendy handle (very popular these days), but what else? Wood? Draw weight? Details!
-
:) its oak 55 inch long 49 @ 27
-
I am always surprised with people chosing oak....and then getting something that can actually throw an arrow. My experience with oak has been fraught with disasters, catastrophes, and heartbreak. Way to go Pins!
-
Dude, look at the bend in that sucker! Very nice Pin I also have horrible luck with oak. I'm too much of a coward to try to get that draw length with that short a bow, hats off to you my friend.
-
Nice buddy! Way to get a lot out of that stick PC.
-
Thank you Pat and JW,
I wouldn't wish misfortune on anyone here but it does help to hear that even with many bows under your belt you can still wreck some and get in a slump.
I was starting to wonder if I would ever get a decent bow for the trade. It is one thing to take a stick and see what you get, but this is the first try at building to someone else's specs and that aint easy.
Now after about 5 or 6 tries, I have a bow I feel good about shipping, except for that it looks like a dyslexic 3rd grader did the signing and I came out a couple pounds over wt.

For bushboy, that option would be prohibitively expensive! You see, the drive down from the northern bush region of Canada to the nearest US Post Office is a complicating factor!
-
I got a kink in one limb onda osage im workin on... it keeps me running back to my bow form, lol. Its gonna finish less than 1" wide so lateral stability is a must...but im gaining on it ;).... Brian

Funn you say that fred. ill make this in all caps so everyone sees.
I AM DROPPING OUT OF THE TRADE, THE PIECE OF OSAGE I WAS WORKING IS NOT FULLY SEASONED. I GOT IT OUT TO 21" AND IT HAS ALREADY TAKE 1 1/2" OF SET. I WILL BE FORWARDING THE BOW I RECIEVED TO PERSON WHO IS COVERING FOR ME. WHICH IS REALLY GOING TO SUCK CUZ I LOVE THIS BOW. IF YOU CAN NOT FINISH YOUR BOW PLEASE PUT YOUR EGO ASIDE AND SPEAK UP, TRUST ME, IT IS NOT AN EASY THING TO DO BUT IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TELL EVERYONE LIKE I AM, JUST SEND ME OR JW A PM.
-
Way to man up Jordan , I know it's killing you to send that great bow out, good show of character buddy
-
If you got me, don't worry about being late just take your time on something, no big deal. Duck made that bow for you, make something for your guy just tell them you will be late, I am sure they would understand I know I would.
Grady
-
I agree with autologus. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't understand. I was only kidding about it being me but I have enough bows to shoot that a wait wouldn't bother me in the least.
-
its been a hassle just for me to work on theses bows in general, literally had to go to my "wifes" house to work on the bow. thats not as simple as it sounds since were getting divorced. second, all the wood i have is still green. its easier for me to just pass it on and hand over the bow i have since thats the rule i made myself.
-
I am steadily working on my trade bow.....it will come down to the wire but I will have it finished. Had some delays but all should be good now.
-
Well you can mark me as shipped.
-
Mark me as shipped. USPS priority mail, insured, tracking # >:D
-
I would agree with autologus, but I like your ability to stick to your rule too. If I was the recipient of your bow I have no problem waiting it out as long as you need. It just makes me have to work on my own projects and not play with a new toy as soon .
sorry to hear about your divorce. never an easy thing to go through no matter what.
John
-
thanks john
-
You're a good man Jordan.
I been bummed all day cause me and the wife talked last night and aint much but kids and convenience keeping us together. Divorce is really just a matter of time here.
Best wishes with it all.
-
Jordan, it's been a long time but I remember it well. We separated in 80 and divorced in 82. Taught me a hard lesson. I came close to trying again a few times but never did remarry. My salvation was the kids. After I returned to Nebraska from Indiana in 86 I spent most the time with my sons and finally received custody in 88 when they were 11 and 12 yrs old. Best thing that ever happened to me and them. Keep your chin up and stay close to your family. Fred

yeah its not something youll ever forget. i spend as much time as i can with my son, hopefully one day ill get primary custody of him.
-
That sucks Jordan. If you need anything just let me know. Really anything! I'm sure who your guy will be more than understanding if it was a little late, but good on ya for saying you'll give yours away.
-
To me the whole thing about this trade is the spirit of giving and it its me I would gladly give you all time you need. Our families are important to us that is why we keep coming back to this site because of the family like fellowship you take care of your family at home then you can take care of your obligations here we will understand. Prayers go out to you.
Grady
-
You can mark me down as shipped. It's headed east of me >:D.
-
I would rather have the bowyer take his time even though time is almost up. If you try to rush you don't learn anything good through the process and the work will show it. Take your time and get her done right. I did my PA trade bow early but still haven't shipped my TG trade bow that was due July 11. It should go out early next week.
I've not been divorced but I've been married a divorced woman for over 36 years and helped her raise her daughter. Meredith was 6 when Marcia and I got married. I did go through some of the post divorce stuff for about 12 years until Meredith went to college. After that her Dad didn't care. He didn't have to pay child support anymore.
Keep in close contact with your kids and a civil relationship with your ex for the kids.
-
Great advise Pat.

I am officially finished, I will ship on Monday. I will get some pictures up this weekend.
Grady

This is such an amazing group of people sometimes. You can truly feel the respect and concern held for one another. @Jordan - Here's hoping for the best possible outcomes for you and yours. These things are NEVER easy. Your answers will not be the same as anyone else's answers. Just strive to do honorably with all parties involved and you'll come out alright!
As for the Trade - I'll echo what was said by others - If it were me, ...I'd want to wait. I had to send a bow late in the last trade I was in. It made me all the more determined to make the best bow I could for my recipient. All-in-all, I think it worked out fine and the world kept turning.

Looking forward to seeing your work Grady, my ERC didn't make the cut so I am glad you got it done.
-
My bow has been "shipped" and the recipient has "received" it.
-
Got my wrap done. Now to pry it outta my hands. Getting the stuff to send her tomorrow and shipping Monday.

A big white pipe should be hitting someone's doorway monday ! I got a kick out of how jLorander labeled my bow,he put do not bend all over the box !lol! I labeled my offering a little different also, but for different reasons ?
-
I'll update the list on Monday.
-
Sorry guys ... haven't been on for awhile ... like everyone else ...been busy . GOT mine about ready .. been shooting it in...adding rawhide backing right now... I plan on shipping on time :)
-
Looks as though its all coming along nice for a great trade year. I was lucky enough to take part in this years bow trade again.and you guys that run these . my hats off to you. You do great work. I got a beauty of a hhb bow from Bob . and I hope huisme treasures his as much as I do.
-
Had a chance to shoot today and you bet I made room for that piece of gold! Just as snappy as ever after all my abuse >:D
I liked knowing I sent Wildkatt his first molle, liked shooting it myself, liked how the levers came out, but dang was it hard to close the tube and send it off! Hopefully next year I'll have some other bow around to keep me from getting too attached, and by then I plan to be curving my levers more often ;D ;)
-
I am done and here it is. It is Rawhide backed ERC, 59" ntn 50# @ 28" it has sinew wrapped pin nocks and a sinew and cherry bark grip. I had a lot of fun making it and I hope my guy likes it, I know I do. :'(

Thats one beautiful bow Grady!!
Well fellas, looks like I'm going to be about a week late on my trade bow. Circumstances beyond my control, pulled me out of the shop for almost 2 weeks. Long story short, The wife and oldest daughter were in an accident, everybody is ok now, but was quite a scare for all of us, and my wife's car is totaled. Just didn't have time to get in the shop. Will be back at it tomorrow though. Sorry to my victim, I hate being late!!! I'll have to throw in something a little extra to make up for it. ;)

Well... My trade bow right angled at 24"...never had a hinge develop so quickly... Dang it all! Im off work this week so i can put alot of time towards another but dang :o... Brian
-
That is never fun, but so close to deadline, it really sux.
-
Thanks JW, everybody's ok now, but it was a little chaotic for a minute. Could have been a lot worse.
Thats a bummer Koan! I had one tillered out to 26" 3 weeks ago, and the tip snapped off on me. Broke about 4" down. Never fails, I build bows all year with few problems, then try and make a trade bow, and everything goes wrong. >:(

I LOVE this bow right now! Raining here in NY today so I set a target outside the main entrance door and shot a few arrows through (dont tell my girl as shooting bows in the house has been outlawed due to a certain mishap... or two  ). I feel a great appreciation towards everyone here who has done their best and for Jordan and JW. Guys had a lot on your plate with this bow trade and did a great job. Big thanks to Rob for the gorgeous bow and to Auggie for accepting my bent stick as a trade bow! Cant wait to do this again!!!

Bushy is a an up and comer with his bows these days. NM, you lucky dog.
-
No doubts there JW! I may was thinking of adding some skins to the back for hunting, but shes so pretty I am not sure I want to mussy her figure up with my Neolithic hands

Updated the list on page one. If anyone sees something inaccurate, please contact JW_Halverson or BOWMAN53.
Everyone that has not shipped has been heard from lately, that's great news. Things are shaping up nicely and I want to personally thank all who have worked so hard to make sure things go smoothly. For those that have not shipped, I am putting on my stern face.
Again, thanks everyone!

Thanks for the update, TradeRunner. I know sometimes the people running these trades feel like they are just talking to themselves when they ask for updates and progress reports. >:D
-
You did good fella's. Looks like a very fine turn around. You had a good list of names to support that.
-
yup i think we had a really good list this year.
-
And that's a sweet bow bushy. Straight from da' great white nord! Don't get much better Neolithicman.
-
Ok I am not going to be able to make the deadline.....waiting to hear from Bowman53.....hope my recipient will allow me extra time to do what I need to do with this bow for him.....I do not want to send him junk. I apologize for not making the deadline.
-

-
Maner are some good looking bows going out. Great work guys. It looks like a great shipped rate in the update. That makes me happy. The less stress on the oronizers the better.
-
If anyone needs extra time for mine im ok with it, take as much as you need.
Grady
-
So im a little embarrassed, I said my now from bushboy was 50#, dont know why because it clearly states 58# on the bow and in the nice note along with it. my bad bushboy
-
IF you are going to be late, it is really no skin off my nose. I just put you down on the "Defaulters List" and speak your name before breaking wind for the rest of my life.
The person you really need to face is your recipient. Go ahead and send them an update and gauge their level of comfort with the situation. If you have been living under a rock for the last decade and have never taken the time to read any of the prior threads on exchanges, you know most people will be happy to hear from you and ask you to strike a balance between time and doing your best work.
There are three days to ship, nearly 8 months of water under the bridge. The piper is winding down and must be paid.
-
wow...jdub your killin me!! you are quite the taskmaster....wouldnt a default mean you do not send a bow...not that your just gonna be a little late...i think someone needs a nap sheesh!! and c'mon..i still think we deserve to see the stern face...we all wanna!! lets vote on it.
-
Come hell or high water i will ship this week.... I dont want a fart named after me, lol... Brian
-
JW's right, "everybody knew the date", but I'd prefer to receive mine a little late than have somebody rushing around like a chicken with their head cut off now.
-
That's a fine looking bow bushbow.
-
I was told my bow will be a little late. Just take your time and hurry up O:)
-
I am pleased to report that my bow is in the mail, to be delivered in 7-10 days. Sorry it will arrive after the deadline, but at least I got it mailed prior to.

-
awesome, as long as you ship prior to.
-
Just checked, my bow is on it's way to the doorstep of my victim. Hopefully they post some pix.

Frankly I would have been shocked and amazed if your recipient was anything but gracious about it. As would I, waiting for one of your bows.
-
Well... It came in a little under weight after i took care of the hinge( story for next Classic campfire) but she survived and shoots outstanding! Just got to put the make-up on her and put her inda tube... Life is truly good!.... Brian

Final countdown, two days left. It doesn't sound like anyone has totally fumbled the ball and forgot to locate a stave at this point! It sounds as if those that are not going to ship by the deadline are pretty close. Again, a reminder to those that will not ship on time. Please contact your recipient and keep that line of communication open.
We've all had some great fun looking at the bows finished, taking potshots at each other, and being insanely jealous of the bows others are receiving. Sounds like a normal bow trade!
-
still wanting to see the stern fqce....i just wanna seeee......does it look like this >:( ??

A bow from Bruce LaFlair was waiting for me last nite when I got home and boy is it a nice one. Sinew backed juniper with bull snake skins. Real sweet. Unfortunately, I will be away for a few days so I did not even get a chance to string her up, let alone shoot her or take some pics. I had about 20 minutes to ogle her last nite at 2am before I was off again.
So, what I guess I am trying to say is, I got my trade bow and I will get some pics up, but not till next week.
Bruce - awesome job. Thank you.
Russ
-
Thanks Russ, hope she serves u well. It was a little hard sending her off!
-
Just got a big long tube from the post office with my name on it.....what could it be?
-
well...i guess i did ask for it....lmbo :o

Well got her all done .... was still a little tacky tonite... hopefully will be good and dry tomorrow. :) if not I will ship Saturday a.m. I receive a great bow from Steve ( turtle)awhile back. I will be posting pics of it too ... been anxious to shoot it but I held off til I got mine finished. Thanks again for running the show guys ... its much appreciated :)
-
alright guys the trade deadline is here and we'll have a few late ships but we got a great turn out this year. id like to keep my record of 100% ship rate going so keep up the hard work :)
-
I heard from my builder. He said the bow was going in the mail as soon as he can get to the post office. I'll let him and y'all when it gets here.
Thanks Jordan and JW for putting on another great bow trade. And thanks to all that participated. Without you guys a bow trade would be impossible.
Now I guess we have to wait for the Christmas Exchange. 8)
-
Looks like there are only about 8 that haven't shipped yet. Also about time for another arrow trade.
And I agree a big thanks to Jordan and JW.
-
Fred, Pat, the rest of you: When will you learn it is not the people running the trade? It's the people participating!
The trades hinge on the behavior and efforts of all the participants. Give each other a healthy dose of encouragement and ribbing, put in your best efforts, post pics, and its all good! Running it is all just listmaking and some cajoling thrown in.
Anyone wanting to start off the Christmas/Holiday trade, I am willing to talk you thru it. Christmas is coming, folks!
-
whoever has my name I really want you to know that you don't need to worry about anything. If you need time take it. If you can't do it that is fine as well. I would just ask that you let the organizers know because they are accepting the burden for this trade and it is only fair to them to communicate with them. Thanks to JW and Jordan for an awesome job of being diligent in working through another PA bow trade.
-
JW, I've done it before. :) It's not hard work but it can be mental work along with a bit of stress and a little bit of aggravation thrown in. You volunteered to help and that in itself is gratitude worthy. ;) 8)
...but you are right, it is all about the participants. Without them it would just be one hand clapping. ::)
Thanks to everyone that participated. I hope everyone pushed the envelope a bit and improved their bow building. I hope you picked up some tips just reading other folk's journey to build their trade bow. Being able to see people's problems and successes and in the end the finished product adds to our wood bow archery knowledge. Passing It On! 8)

If your builder has already shipped this is just fine. If a builder has not shipped, nor have they contacted their recipient, well then, that's not so cool.
We pick the mid August date to allow people time to get practice with the bow before hunting season. Help your recipient be a responsible and ethical hunter!

Set up a tree stand in my yard for a little practice. Have not done much elevated hunting so I wanted to sart practicing early. Lots of fun having my brother move a target around and leaning with the safety harness to get shots around trees! shot at 15 and 20 yards and I have to say, pretty happy with my wooden rocket launcher!!!! Bushboy, I cant express how happy I am with this bow. It requires no thought (good for me :D) to slam an arrow where I look. Thank you again for making such a nice bow!!! Please forgive the carbon arrows in the picture, need to hurry up and make some new wooden ones as soon as I find some good shafts and points!

Ok fellas. I just finished putting some lipstick on her and making it pretty. Now I have to figure out how to ship it. It doesn't fit in a standard pvc tube. And I'll be making some arrows, and another something extra to go with...to make up for being late. I'll let my victim post the details about it.

Wow Dave!.... Brian
-
Thanks guys! So, this bow started out as something completely different. This was my number 3 option. Number 1 snapped a tip off, and number 2 ended up under weight. It's red elm, backed with linen. I originally was planning on painting the linen with some pacific northwest patterns, but had to add the siyahs on to gain some draw length. Didn't seem right to add native artwork to an oriental style bow, so I went with this. Its wrapped in a thin leather, and hemp twine dyed black. It's 62# @ 28". Hope my guy likes it. It's getting shipped in the next couple days.

Ha I missed the pix, sweet bow
-
I messaged my trade bow recipient about what is happening with my missing the deadline. I told him I am steadily working on the bow and will complete it. I will also keep him updated. I admit I dropped the ball on this and feel like a turd.
-
Spent this weekend working on the trade bow I'm doing. I induced some reflex, Heat-treated the belly, and re-tillered. Did not like the string alignment so I piked the tips 2 inches each, adjusted the lay of the string across the handle, and put on new nock overlays. It should be about center shot or close to it now. The tiller still looks good, but I want to shoot it in a bit more. I'll being working on finish work tonight. I'm hurrying... :) :) :)

I Finally got a minute to upload some pics -
I got my trade bow from Marco Dubois last Tuesday. Amazing. I've never had a bow from an osage stave, and I was secretely hoping to get one in the trade :) She shoots really sweet, definitely a heavyweight for me at 55#@26". Amazing what a little bit of Osage can handle.
Anyways, here are the pics, and thanks so much Marco, truly a wicked bow.

Sorry ... didn't update ... I shipped out Saturday..i :)
-
Hot dang! That's great news! Thanks for the head's up, country. Can't wait for your recipient to post pics, too.
-
Here's an update: I got a little make-up put on her last night. These pix are just the tips. They are Bacote, Rock Maple, and Padauk over an Osage limb. I put a double nock in one end to accommodate a stringer. Tonight I'll do some more shooting in, final tiller adjustment (...if needed) and make a new string for her. Should be ready to ship by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest... Barring any tragic missteps! (...knocking on simulated wood-grained Formica!)

Just for reference, Eric, onebowonder, offered early on in the trade to have something started and would be willing to step in at the last minute to be sure that EVERONE in the trade got a bow. Now, he was not the only one to do that. I can't think of a worse set of circumstances to have to make a bow under. No pressure there, huh?
You'd be surprised...no, no you wouldn't, this is P.A....how many people made that offer. But Eric is the one that got tapped in because he was first in line.
It's easy to focus on the few things that go wrong, but think about this, folks...THE NUMBER OF BOWYERS WILLING TO STEP IN AT THE LAST MINUTE FAR OUTNUMBERED THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM TO DO SO! What does that say?
-
dont need no step in....all is good!!!
-
There is an awesome spirit of generosity here JW. And also great patience and tolerance of each other; we are all learning more than just how to make a bow here.
Best bunch of folks I never met!
-
Shipping mine out tomorrow fellas.
Tattoo Dave
-
...and then there were four....and one of them may very well have shipped today, waiting for confirmation....
-
One thing Jordan and I have not asked is to hear from those that have not received. So...if you have not received a bow AND you have not heard from your builder, drop me a p.m.
-
those who have been going through me to stay anonymous can still go through me. i only have two people who havent shipped and one should be going out today
-
Jordo gots me covered. I'm waiting patiently. Thanks again fellers.
-
All is good with me besides being late......I am finishing up the tillering process and shooting the bow some. Still have to finish it. I go back to work Friday will work on the bow some tomorrow then get back on it Monday. Not sure yet of a ship date but it is coming.

...but those that don't get out of their recliners and into the field never fill their tags.
-
Man I'd be happy with one deer with a primitive bow, just gotta get the first one under the belt.
-
...and then there were two...
-
Glad it got there safe pat, that's the first one of my bows I've ever given to another wood bowyer. And yes it's backed with 2 layers of muley sinew and 1 of antelope, the skins are eastern diamondback watersnake from cippy, and the horse hair is from a real good horse of mine that died last winter, he was one of those that a guy only gets one of in his life time.
-
As of 10 PM last evening, the bow I shipped Friday had traveled over 1000 miles on it way to it's new home. According to USPS, it is expected to be delivered today sometime.

Ok the worst just happened but glad it happened with me and not my recipient.......it sucks. I was shooting the bow and tweaking tiller had it to 26"-27" drawing while shooting and it let go at 15" of draw length wise along the back. It was at a pin knot and ridge. It was a crepe myrtle bow. Quite a snappy shooter. I was going to start sanding tomorrow to finish it out. I sent my recipient a message to see what he wants to do or what the trade runners decide......I will send him the bow I received or make him a new one that is what I really want to do......but it will be up to him or the trade runners.
These are the pin knots along the bow...

AWWWWWH man that sucks! I have never had an opportunity to try crepe myrtle but I have seen some beauties on here. Those pin knots look interesting. I had similar indents in a BL stave but it was old bug damage I think.
-
Mr. Bailey, first of all, my condolences. It happens, seemingly most often when you can't afford to have it happen.
Secondly, I would say the call depends on what you and your recipient can work out balancing your conscience and his needs.
-
Bummer!! At least you can blame the wood. My trade bow failures were all my fault :-[
Really, that sucks but I bet everyone on here understands how it is.
-
I have a hickory backed ipe glue up ready to go just have to tiller and finish......will see what he wants me to do.....
-
Man....what a heartbreaker....sorry Bro... Brian
-
That sucks James. It was looking like a cool bow. Total bummer
-
I am disappointed but glad it happened with me and not him..........worse being I am behind and late. I will post a full photo of it tomorrow.......my first time doing some pin nocks also........they were still a little wide but was going to slim them up some.
-
True.
-
you can mark me down as received I got a metal tube from tatoo dave today. I will post pics tomorrow.
-
My recipient said to make another he was in no hurry........so I will start another one for him.
-
heres a teaser.... ;D
-
Ok I forwarded my bow that I received to my recipient. I gave it my best and the second bow I was making did not turn out as I wanted it to. I apologize again to everyone for dragging this out but what happened, happened. Thank you for being patient with me.
-
I'm sorry to hear that James.
-
Received a bow today from beetlebailey1977, sorry that your bows didn't work out. I know you put a lot of hard work in. The bow I received was built by IdahoMatt, very nice. Arrows are very sweet too.
-
Mr. Bailey is a stand up guy that I would never hesitate to include in a future trade. Sorry you got your butt handed to you by the wood, this time around, James. Thank you for giving best efforts and swallowing your pride like you did.
And thank you tetaxidermy for patience and forbearance to a fellow bowyer. You are a gentleman of the first order, an absolute gentleman.
-
So is this finally over?
-
Yes thanks again to all for their patience and to Tetaxidermy for his patience. Now I have another stave of wood calling my name to have a go at.
