Title: Got punished for cheating
Post by: Stickhead on April 02, 2020, 12:37:35 pm
Well, I was using a scraper to adjust my tiller, and since it was still pretty heavy, I was lazy and didn’t de-string it first, even though I was scraping near the tip.  I must’ve nicked the string a couple times with the back of the scraper, and bang!  Fortunately, my heart and my bow both survived better than the string.  Another lesson learned.

Unstring while tillering?     That would take forever.

Put an edge protector on the scraper. Tape or a split piece of wire insulation. But you knew that, right :D :D

Just turn the scraper so it's almost flat and use it more like a plow.   There's little need to be working close enough to the nocks anyway.

It has recurved tips, so the string was dangerously close a good ways from the tips.  My bad.

If i have to work close to the nocks, I unstring. If I have to work near the fades, I leave it strung. i use a bow stringer.

I use a very small knife as my scraper when its strung. nothing has happened to me yet that hasn't been my own stupidity.   ;D

I think everyone does this at least once. I did it with a Bowyer's Edge scraper tool.
Surprising how it doesn't even need to be a very sharp opposite edge. Blue masking tape is so useful.

Yeah
Looks like it cut it like a razor blade.

Can cut a length of shrink wrap , cut a side, slide it over back edge and hit it with heat gun. Put tape over top.

Little attention getter.

Been there done that more than once, I didn't cut the string all the way through just a few strands, it was still toast. I use scissors mostly for scraping now, no way to cut a string.

I knew there was a reason to keep those junk scissors!

Glad you are ok. I never work on a strung bow.
