Title: large diameter osage heat straightening help
Post by: sleek on January 07, 2015, 07:49:49 pm
I have a piece of osage that has a few kinks in it. The kink im working now is 1x1.25 thick and wide. Best to just use a heat gun and clamp or is there better ways?

Something that thick and wide I'd steam it for a long time. You have to heat the wood all the way through.

Pat is right steam for at least 1 1/2 hours and even then a tight kink won't come out.

+1 pappy....is it in the limbs or are your trying to make a bend/correction in the handle area? I've been able to make dry heat corrections in stiff handled osage bows...it ain't easy but it can be done.
