It doesn't need much wood to make a serious bow from osage. This bow comes from a splinter, a left over from a thicker stave. It was only 1” wide and 5/8” thick at maximum, but super clean and needed only a bit of dry heat corrections for string alignment.
This bow is made for comparison with bow 91 (wide limb osage). Nearly same length, same draw weight, but much less mass because of a totally different design. Here it is: http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,61237.0.html
This bow has a more or less ELB style cross section with crowned belly.
Tiller is near to a circle, but stiff tips.
Handle is hemp, dyed with charcoal.
Tips are thin strips of buffalo horn.

I love it! Another beauty Simon! Thanks for all the inspiration.
-
Beautiful, Simon. Simple, and lethal. you are right about osage, I've been amazed over and over how little wood it takes to make a good, reliable shooting bow.
-
That is one lovely splinter! How smooth is it to shoot?
-
Really nice bow, Simon. Simple but effective. :OK
-
Very nice Simson.A tribute to the overall diversity of a bow wood shown here in two way different type belly profiles still making bows.

What an absolutely incredible bow. Small, light, beautiful and deadly what's not to love! While I'm here I've got to say also the your #91 three toes is really something else- simply fantastic work man! :)

New here. Been reading and watching a lot lately, but can't help but comment on that bow. I will bookmark this page, great bow, very neat how that design accommodates longer draw in a shorter length. Thanks for posting. Pete

Simson does not mess around. Give him a piece of wood and he will make the most efficient bow that can be made. Pretty too
