-
Might want to send all the Texas folks a pm.
-
I'll be there. Hey Slimbob do you have a database for Texas bowyers? I also want to get the word out. :).
-
Hope we have an awesome turn out :D Lake somerville is a great place for events like this. Even if there's just a few of us its still gonna be a blast!
-
Gonna post this on he local Archery clubs facebook page.
-
Just checked BCAC web site calendar, turns out there is a club shoot on May 18th. 30 target course, and its free if its your first time at the club. Trad shooters start at 9 am. Might be fun for you guys that wanna spend the night. Its 30 minutes away from welch park in bryan, tx.
-
No I don't. Just got to thinking about it and Texas has more than a handful of guys that frequent PA. Surely someone ought to have a list I figure.
-
maybe jackcraftys got a list?
-
well if someones got a list..if i can get it....guess i will PM the Texas boys since i kinda got this ball rolling. lol
-
I think you should post this under, flintknapping, bows, and arrows, more people will see it.
-
will get on the Neuse...wow..didnt realize the need for a centrally located gtg..kinda daunting...and exciting..in a manly sort of way...lol
-
Ooh, tempting! I'll do my best to get there!
You might try George Stoneberg? He knows lotsa the Texas folk i think.
-
Was thinking about you and George S last night. Would be great to meet you two. I'll be there Lord willin'.
-
I do a lot more kidnapping than bow making these days. That date looks promising though. The last flint knapping get together I did wasn't too far from there north of Cameron. Good hog hunting down there. I'll try to make it.
George
-
be good to meet all yall Texas bow building flint knapping knife building folks!!!
-
Yes Sir,
I'll make it if I can...
Even with all our Move lingering, I'm still hopeful of making the Classic.
If So I might can only come out for the day.
If the Classic Trip falls through my Beard and I Will be there with a full Camp Kitchen and Mid Size Smoker.
For the duration.
;D
-gus

Funny thing is I'm fifteen minutes from lake Somerville right now

Where at newindian? I live in college station.

I am in town for a 4h event but I'm leaving for home in a few, but it seams that I will be able to make it in May
-
what town ..lol...what town??
-
I'm already home I only stayed long enough to spend all day at shotgun sports shoot. We stay with my grandparents when in collage station they live not to far from the campus but I don't know the city ( or the area) well enough to really know where anything is my father just told me when were at the shoot that the lake was only fifteen minutes farther down the road. I'm now in spring branch three hours from collage station.
-
you and your dad should come to the bow bust...should be good fun!
-
Well Heck, I just moved out of Spring Branch up to the Woodlands...
Go figure...
:)
-gus
-
woodlands aint far from somerville...oh...lol

-
yeguas were part of the Tongkawa tribe.
-
Do you mean the Tonkawa tribe? Them boys were native to where I'm from. I've found lots of points & them fellas were master knappers. They really knew how to thin stone.
-
tonkawa...i stand corrected. 8)
-
Bump Bump...
I'm now officially a No Go for the Classic...
So I'm a Go for Sommerville (Classic In Exile)...
:)
-gus
-
Is this Get Together still On?
-gus
-
sounds fun..
-
I'll be there!
-
yes its still on....come one come all...if it does well and we all enjoy it...could become annual...lookin foreward to meeting yall and putting faces to names!!
-
Gus sorry we wont see ya at the classic..but well take pics for ya!!...and happy to have ya in somerville!!
-
Well I wasn't able to make the Johnson City Knap-in. Work is unreal right now. My vacation has been pulled , so the classic is out. Maybe I can make this one. ?
-
I hope you can Don, I'm gonna try and make it down. Can't guarantee I won't head back up to Burlington at night for another hog hunt. Gus, did you eat up that hog I shot when we were all at Burlington?
George
-
tower,mr.stoneberg,, will be glad to have you both..should be a fun time!
-
hell yeah tower, bring your knapping stuff......like you didn't already know that :P would love to learn some more knapping. I mentioned this event to the guys in johnson city. Craig white said he might try to make it.
-
I did Knap a point last Saturday. Unfortunately it was in Laredo.
-
I hope you can Don, I'm gonna try and make it down. Can't guarantee I won't head back up to Burlington at night for another hog hunt. Gus, did you eat up that hog I shot when we were all at Burlington?
George
Hey Sir!

I Slow Smoked the Hind Quarter and that was Awesome...
And Chicken Fried the Backstrap with Smashed Taters, Cream Gravy and Green Beans...
It was Terrible... don't think I'll ever eat Wild Pig Again... ;D
Couldn't keep my boys out of it...
Wild Hog has always been my Favorite...
Hope You are doing Well.
Also hope to see Y'all at Somerville.
-gus
-
Diego and I going to try to make it.
-
Tower, We would love to have you in this part of town. I'm sorry about the Johnson City knapp in.
-
ever throw a party and more folks show up than ya expected......lol...gonna be a good time!!
-
So when are folks planning on showing up out there?
-gus
-
ill probably be out there around 8 or so getting the band saw unloaded. Probably gonna make my trade bow out there.....unless someone starts knapping. Then i'll lose all attention for bow building :P
I think 4Dog was intending for this to kick off around 9 am. gives everyone plenty of time to get there without being sleep deprived.
-

-
Judging by the turn out we had at George's Cross Plans get together...
A good turn out wouldn't surprise me to much...
When folks (Specially Texans) take it in mind to Get Together, no Hurdle is Too High, no Lake Too Far... ;D
Instead of my Smoker, I'm planning on bringing my Deep Frying outfit.
Along with my Camp Kitchen...
Cipriano mentioned bringing some Rattler for the Frier...
I'm very much looking forward to it...
Been wanting to cast my eyes out over Lake Sommerville for some time.
And the opportunity to see old friends and meet new friends is Priceless.
-gus
-
I'm also bringing some nice looking fresh cut (yesterday) mesquite for so far 4dog, Gus, Ink, George and Jack. ;)
Looking forward to meeting yall.
Cipriano
-
What are we doing for food and lodging? Is this in a camp ground? (Not that I have a tent anymore...) Mary is planning on sending something for dessert, like brownies or these chocolate/marshmallow things that are to die for... Since Gus is coming I don't have to worry much about cooking, but I do want to be sure I bring Jack's and my share of the food we need. I for sure have some wild boar Italian and breakfast sausage if you can do anything with that Gus. And there's always venison in the freezer. You didn't happen to go fishing again did ya?? ;) Let me know what I need to do.
George
-
Whew Whoo!
It will be Great to see you there George!
At this early stage, I'm thinking there will prolly only be two big meals,
Supper Saturday and Breakfast Sunday...
Was looking to Fry Rattler and Fries Saturday evening...
And I can bring my Webber Grill for Smoking some sausage and maybe a steak or two, and Hotdogs for kids...
Also, I was thinking of whipping up a batch of Grandma's Coleslaw to bring as well.
I guess we should try to get a Head Count and go from There.
See y'all Soon!
-gus
-
Change of plans for me, for the better. We will be there Saturday before lunch. Moved a few things around. I will bring some Axis deer steaks for the grill! Tent camp for the night I suppose.
-
dang fellas...yall are makin this interesting ..rattler meat and all...i was hoping to bag a couple eating pigs...but folks either want money..or you should have asked yesterday..lol...still have irons in the fire and willing to go a fair distance to get em...hope i dont disappoint...this is gonna be fun rain or shine!! i got some venison backstrap and burgers....plus theres an awesome country cookin resturant very close!! there are RV sites ..and camping whereever you pitch your tent...they have toilets and showers as well close to where we will be..didnt get portacrappers cause didnt know how many,,, since its the first gonna "improvise" "adapt" "overcome" and "pray" it all goes well...lmao...a tad nervous already. there are also a couple hotels for the women ...lol

Starting to come together! Y'all have fun!
-
Scott, git yourself down to Dallas on Friday and you can ride down with Jack and me! We were going to hog hunt Friday nite up here but with all the rain this week I suspect the woods will be submerged. Downstate is really supposed to get hammered today. I hope the place we're headed is high ground. Bring your bug spray!
George
-
we got hammdred last night..but we needed the rain...sposed to clear out today...and clear weather all weekend...a nice 85•...sat and sunday.
-
1 of these days George...

I just lined up hog hunts for Jack and I up towards Temple for both Friday night and Saturday night. If we have good luck on Friday we will be bringing fresh hog meat with us when we show up Saturday morning. It also puts us in a cot when we're done hunting and that's a big plus for an old guy like me.
George
-
For Sombody who hasn't attended an event yet can you tell me what I should bring
-
a tent or something like it if your gonna sleep there..maybe a bow to shoot..one blank to work on...knapping stuff if ya got it...stuff to trade if your so inclined...pretty much anything you think YOU might need would be best...after that ...improvise.
-
might be counting on ya mr stoneberg...the closer it gets ..the less chance i got ta get em myself...it would be appreciated. :)
-
Being Cash! >:D
Just Funnin'...
Being anything you have that you're working on... along with any tools you prefer.
Also I'd say being what ever you might want to drink...
I'll have my Weber for Grilling and Light Smoking.
And my Deep Frying setup for Frying..
I'll come up with some sides for Saturday Supper to go with the Fried and Grilled stuff.
Looking Forward to seeing Y'all Soon!
-gus
-
there will be a big honkin bbq grill...no vendors will be there sorry...but we can do some trading...bring drinks...this is more like a family reunion than some fancy schmancy deal...if we all just get along and there are alot of people..then next year...we will do this a bit more uppity. lol
-
Hey, we can improvise this thing to a fare-the-well. I'll bet it is a smoking success!

I hope you guys were better about taking some pics than I was at the classic. I was kinda bummed that I missed this gathering by less than a week. Having sampled Gus's culinary expertise, I am certain that no one went hungry while there. Maybe next year. Josh

Great time! Great food! Great fun! Enjoyed getting to know everyone, and Gus, that chow last night rocked. Thanks to 4dog for putting this together, great job.

I enjoyed everyone's company, fellowship, and hospitality. Great great folks. We ate like kings and played like hooligans. I even came home with a new sledge hammer handle. A real MAN'S handle and a load of hickory. Thank you Ink!!! Diego made a new friend in Jacob. Nice young man. I am ready to do it again. We had a gourmet chef and the hospitality of royalty.

I agree Ink. Maybe another should be slated in the mean time! Your dads bow above looks good by the way. Be sure and post it when he gets it all dressed up.
-
I agree that was great. Even though I wasn't in any pics....I was there and had a great time. Great tiller on dads first bow!!
-
Yeah Sasquatch, we all discussed that after you left Sunday. Ink was supposed explain our photo editing decisions to you. As a group we came up with the plausible explanation that every picture you were in had some type of defect or flaw in it. Damn the luck😟. Anyway, sorry bud. Were gonna make sure your in some next year. Think about wearing jacket maybe.
-
Thanks for posting the pics Ink...but I need some names on the group photo. I can't remember them all, the people were unforgetable...but names I'm having a tough time with. That really was a great time and I'm already thinking about next year.

My handle is criveraville.. I do the BOM contest. My given name is Drake Smith......
-
what the????? Cipriano ...is a Drake??? im so confused :o
-
Oh yeah, let's not forget the tragic exploding handle.
-
You know I fixed it up perfectly well afterward all it needed was a little office tape :D
-
newindian....your repair looked totally useable to me.... :o
-
Devin, you'll get your chance to test it out at next years. I wanna bring a large elm log this time and see if anyone can split it    >:D
-
not gettin near a large elm log.
-
what the????? Cipriano ...is a Drake??? im so confused :o
I was kidding Thunder.... criveraville is my handle. Cipriano Rivera ;)
-
Oh yeah, let's not forget the tragic exploding handle.
That was great. I had been to the local flea market. Needed a heave sledge. I passed on it a month ago. Just didnt want to spend $10. I went back in two weeks and the guy still had it. He said he had just put a new super duper handle on it. I spent the ten bill and was a happy camper. When I got to the handle bust, I took it out. New Indian took it an put all his might into a wedge on a hickory log. Only problem is that he hit the wedge dead on the handle. That wimply handle exploded and half of it soared in the air. Jason (Ink) promptly made it a darn nice stout handle out of hickory. ;)
Cipriano
-
reminded me a bit of Buford Pusser...(walking tall ... for you younguns)....awesome movie!
-
Looks like you guys had a great time. That food looked good. Gus must be quite a cook.
-
Gus the cuss....scary good grill man!!!!!

Need to get you down here Clint next year for Bow Bust ver. 2.0. We all had a great time and the food was excellent. Made some bows, broke some bows, broke some axe handles, twisted up strings, shot a good bit, ate well and sat around the camp fire with some pretty good story tellin. Don't get much better than that.
